An announcement from the Town of Oyster Bay government on Thursday, June 11, sparked talk of economic revitalization across central Nassau County and in the Long Island region. Comments from Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino about potential for Amazon to open a new 200,000-squarefoot warehouse on the vacant, controversial Cerro Wire site, had raised eyebrows and some hopes for a megacenter of job creation finally happening with a Fortune 500 leader investing in Nassau County. Following the initial announcement on June 11, at the Oyster Bay Town Board meeting on Tuesday, June 16, Supervisor Saladino noted the potential for 550 jobs to come to the area with no impacts of increased enrollment in Syos-
set Central School District as a direct result of a new Amazon warehouse facility here. With 70 participants watching the Town Board meeting Tuesday via livestream, Saladino explained the initial investigation for Amazon to add a new facility along the L.I.E. “Last week we announced Amazon is announcing plans for the former Cerro Wire site, and this project would bring a great tax base with support to our schools, the Town and Nassau County government, without a burden on the school district and without burdens to deliver more services which cost money. This project not only brings that tax base but adding 550 jobs at a time when we need those jobs the most… The Town will continue to work with the community, all stakeholders and everyone involved See page 23
