Baseball association promises $100K for Stillwell renovation The Board of Directors of the Syosset Baseball Association has approved a pledge by the SBA of $100,000 to support the renovation and maintenance of fields at Stillwell Woods Park. The pledge is conditioned on the approval
of the acquisition of the park by the Syosset School District, which will be voted on by district residents on May 18, and the satisfactory planning of turf fields, lighting, parking and comfort stations in the baseball area of the
park. The Board said it will also consider annual maintenance payments following construction and consistent with other park stakeholders to ease the burden on the school district’s taxpayers. See page 28

Six members of the Syosset community will be vying for three open seats on the Syosset Central School District’s nine-member Board of Education during the district’s election on Tuesday, May 18. Though two slates of three candidates were formed, it is an open election with voters able to choose any three of the candidates on the ballot or put in a write-in vote when they make their selections. News broke on Wednesday, April 28 that a distinguished, nineyear veteran school board trustee, Woodbury resident Christopher DiFilippo, will not be a candidate for this year’s election although he had originally filed to run once again. DiFilippo, who has served on the Board since 2012, withdrew from the ballot last week. The board has also recently had an open position, operating with eight instead of nine board members, as trustee Chris Ulrich resigned when he moved out of New York State. Finally, another veteran school board member, Andrew Feldman, will not seek re-election to the
board for another term. Thte two slates of three candidates for the three positions are as follows: Brian Grieco, Dr. Shany Park and Lisa Coscia; and the trio of Lynn Abramson, Dr. Rob Sharma, and Mitchell Lieberman.
Lisa Coscia
Lisa Coscia is experienced in education and taught at the pre-K through sixth grade-level in Queens before her family moved to the district 14 years ago. She has a bachelor’s degree in theatre from Queens College and a master’s in elementary education from St. John’s University, with her teaching certification. Coscia has three children; her son who graduated from Syosset High School in the Class of 2020, as well as two younger ones: a daughter in the ninth grade at SHS and another daughter in the seventh grade at South Woods Middle School. “It came to my attention that none of the nine-member board of education, with eight current members, have a background as educators. I have over 10 years’ See page 12
