Fire districts send medical aid to Ukraine frontlines

Officials from the Town of Oyster Bay joined with members of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America Long Island Chapter to recognize the Association of Fire Districts of Nassau County as they prepared to ship 4,000lbs of medical supplies to the frontlines in Ukraine. The 20 ft. shipping container full of necessary supplies is being transported by the Terry Farrell Foundation to a local port, and will reach the people of Ukraine through the Association’s

partnership with St. Vladimir’s Parish Center in Uniondale. Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino stated, “The volunteer fire service is dedicated to protecting people’s lives and property, and their sense of service is what made our volunteers step up to assist Ukrainians fighting to protect their homeland. I thank our firefighters and EMS workers for their service to our nation, and to the cause of freedom around the globe.”

Kelp to be used as natural fertilizer Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Laura Maier hold some of the kelp harvested from Oyster Bay harbor. The Town of Oyster Bay recently harvested the last of the Town’s sugar kelp, grown in local waterways to ultimately be dried, composted and used to treat landscaping at the Town’s golf course and other Town parks facilities. Through initial kelp operations put in place in cooperation with Adelphi, SUNY Stony Brook, and Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Town now grows over 3,000 feet of kelp — the equivalent of 10 football fields — in Harry Tappen Marina, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park Marina, TOBAY Beach Marina,

Fire damages 7 townhouses A fire damaged seven townhouse units at Summit Way, Syosset, on Wednesday, April 13. According to Nassau County Police, a 911 call was received for an active fire at 10:15 p.m. The Syosset Fire Department and surrounding fire departments extinguished the blaze, but seven units

of the development sustained extensive fire and water damage. Three residents were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The cause of the fire is undetermined, but is being investigated by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office.
