Chamber board member brings smiles to seniors BY RIKKI N. MASSAND

Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan, right, with the Moger family. Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (Woodbury) welcomed the Moger family to the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building on Thursday, Jan. 14, where Life’s Angels delivered a $5,000 donation to

the family. Janine Moger was chosen as one of the charity’s 2020 beneficiaries after her husband Chris passed away from stage IV esophageal cancer - a valiant battle that took both an emotional and

financial toll. In late 2019, Legislator Lafazan partnered with the Oyster Bay Brewing Company and Coach Meeting House to host a fundraiser for the Moger family.

Syosset Woodbury Chamber of Commerce Board Member Amanda Johnson, owner and designer of her small business Balloons by Amanda, is aiming at spreading cheer in the new year. Balloons by Amanda is partnering with local assisted living and nursing care facilities by participating in the national #AdoptAGrandparent campaign. She began promotions with the special campaign on Monday, January 18, 2021 to present. Amanda’s shared goal with the #AdoptAGrandparent initiative is to put smiles on the faces of senior citizens living in local facility settings without their chil-

dren, grandchildren and extended families. The pandemic has also seen many of their peers in assisted living and nursing facilities die or become ill with Covid-19 over the past 10 months, though hopefully the tide turns with senior and vulnerable populations starting to be vaccinated. “Our goal is to bring a little joy and encouragement to the isolated senior citizens living in the Syosset Woodbury community with a Balloon Buddy! We are choosing one facility at a time to ensure that every resident at that location will receive a cheerful Balloon Buddy with an uplifting note. Now more than ever, our senior citizens need extra love and attention, since they can’t physically be with See page 12
