At its meeting on Thursday October 21st, the Garden City Board of Trustees voted to allocate $1.25 million for emergency repairs to Fire Station No. 2, located on Stewart Avenue and Edgemere Road. At the meeting, Village Administrator Ralph Suozzi explained his request for a number of last-minute agenda items pertaining the fire station. The chief action taken by the board was to declare an emergency due to the deterioration of the building and then to allocate $1.25 million to fund repairs. The amount to be bonded will be $1.5 million. During the Board’s October 7th meeting the trustees discussed a dispute between the Village and a consulting architectural firm, PKAD, which had been retained to examine the fire station. The dispute is over the scope and completion of work done there. At the Board’s October 21st meeting, Village Administrator Suozzi reviewed about two years of discussions about redesigning the firehouse, and how Mayor Cosmo Veneziale formed the village’s Fire Safety Committee once he took office. “One of the Committee’s areas of focus was for the actual village See page 45
