of Virginia. The Covid-19 pandemic was cited as the reason for the filing. Le Tote Inc., said in a statement at the time, that they were seeking a buyer for its fashion rental subscription service, and for Lord & Taylor, which was one of the first department stores in the country. At its September 17 meeting the Garden City Board of Trustees voted to authorize the extension of the enhanced outdoor dining program -allowing the closure of Seventh Street from Franklin Avenue to Hilton Avenue during evening hours Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The “No Parking” restriction on Seventh Street from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on those evenings has been in place since late May, including Sundays at the same times, but apparently the Sunday dining crowds did not require the continuation of special protocols. Sundays will see a return to normal on-street traffic and parking, without closures. Former Village Trustee and current executive director of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce Dennis Donnelly addressed the Board at its Thursday, September 17 meeting to ask for an extension of outdoor dining until the end of the year. Donnelly talked about the many unfortunate permanent closures of Garden City businesses. “At the moment, just so everyone is aware -- Seventh Street Travel, Liberty Travel, Asian Moon, Envie, Go Greek, Perennial restaurant, HSBC Bank, iFix Squad (mobile phone/gadget repair), New York Sports Club, and then of course Lord & Taylor -- are all going to be gone from the village this year. Seventh Street Travel had been in its 166 Seventh Street #1 location for 33 years. We were fortunate to have the foresight of the Village Board to try and assist our restaurants with the enhanced outdoor dining back when it was first approved in May -- that has been a saving grace for our restaurants in town,” Donnelly said. Village Treasurer Irene Woo told the board that among the expenditures the Village of Garden City “continues to incur” related to the pandemic are the overtime costs for police and other personnel for the street closures. A few officers man the barricades to ensure unauthorized vehicles don’t run amuck into people in the closed street. According to Woo, the village’s total estimated cost due to Covid-19 since the pandemic started is approximately $350,000. Woo said that the running expense tally will carry forward until October 4, which is the deadline for submission to for reimbursement to FEMA for Covidrelated. Donnelly noted that the current request for an extension of the

Famed department store closing its doors for good BY GARY SIMEONE Lord & Taylor, the highend department store that first opened its doors in the village in 1956, will close at the end of the year due to the economic downturn as a result of the pandemic. The chain plans to close all 38 of its stores, including three other stores on Long Island in Manhasset, Bay Shore and Huntington. The once popular store
chain filed for bankruptcy protection early last month and subsequently announced two separate rounds of store closings, with the Huntington and Bay Shore locations being the first to go. Lord & Taylor and its parent company, Le Tote, both filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on August 2nd, in the U.S Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District
