Adelphi University faculty discuss their perspectives of 9/11 BY GARY SIMEONE This upcoming Saturday will mark a very important historical chapter in our country’s history. It will be the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks that took place on September 11th, 2001. Adelphi University has planned memorial events, including an American flag-placing project, which will take place
on campus on Friday morning, and host a special annual prayer service on Saturday at 10 a.m. Faculty members from the University, including an esteemed clinical professor, an epidemiologist, and a noted author, shared their opinions and perspectives of a day that tested the strength and resolve of the country. K.C Rondello, an epide-
miologist and clinical associate professor at the school, said that he was on scene at the terror attacks with a group from Suffolk County Emergency Medical Services. “I initially responded to the terror attacks with an EMS group from Suffolk County on September 11th and arrived at Ground Zero around 2 p.m.,” said Rondello.“I provided See page 49
At its meeting set for Tuesday evening, September 21, the Garden City Zoning Board of Appeals will be hearing an application from Franklin Avenue restaurant Calogero’s for a variance related to its outdoor, previously-erected 1200-square-foot tent at the rear of the restaurant’s property. The structural, sturdy tent has a capacity to hold about 50 restaurant guests, and its material can withstand inclement weather conditions. Calogero’s owner Ronald DiGangi notes that this outdoor structure is mutually exclusive from the temporary, light tent that was behind the restaurant on Village of Garden City parking lot property. That tent was approved in 2020 by the Board of Trustees, along with outdoor dining areas at three other Franklin Avenue restaurants (Novita, Waterzooi and Revel). DiGangi spoke with The Garden City News this week, and said that Calogero’s tent is on restaurant property and complies with the village’s Building or Fire codes.
