Board of Trustees scrutinizes water consultants’ fees

HAPPY EASTER

BY RIKKI MASSAND

The Village Board of Trustees, at its meeting on Wednesday, April 20, discussed the costs of work being performed by specialized “water consultants” to create a comprehensive inventory of water service lines made of lead. Some homes that have lead service lines (from the curb to the home) have been found to have elevated levels of lead in their drinking water, and some homeowners may choose to replace those lines. Beginning late last year, homeowners in Garden City began contacting the New York State Department of Health to receive free lead contamination testing kits, through a pilot program. In January the Board of Trustees approved an allocation of $25,000 to H2M Architects + Engineers to investigate reports of lead issues and possible contamination in water at homes across Garden City. Garden City residents enjoyed Easter celebrations at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. In addition to a full range of religious services, the Cathedral hosted its annual Easter Egg Hunt, with over 6,000 eggs hidden across ten acres.
