ing's agenda without having been discussed publicly by the trustees, and none of the trustees commented on it during the meeting. Even so, they voted unanimously 8-0 to the change. Originally, the Board planned to make the change immediately after the meeting, however earlier in the day on April 17th the Garden City News consulted with the New York State Press Association. The executive director of the NYPA told the News that she
The Village Board of Trustees, having interviewed candidates for construction management services, on January 17, approved a resolution to "seek a viable use of the St. Paul's buildings ... that generates some revenue to offset costs, has uses that are attractive to residents and include preservation of signicant portions of the interior and exterior" of the building. At the Board’s January 17 meeting, resident Bob Orosz questioned why the Board of Trustees is able to make a decision on St. Paul’s without a poll or vote from the entire village taking place. He read from the resolution that would pass minutes later “it is the opinion of the Board that there is no overwhelming public consensus in what to do with the St. Paul’s building.” Orosz asked the trustees, “how did you come up with this idea?” “It almost seems like an edict is coming down from this Board of Trustees that it will be making its decision regardless of public input. Recently the Western Property Owners’ Association send out its questionnaire and it was not a village-wide questionnaire. If this project is going to impact every Garden City taxpayer, this community should be involved with the decision -- not just the eight of you (trustees) making the decision. According to this you would only have three paths -- doing nothing, historical preservation without regards to costs or potential uses, or building a recreational facility. But you cannot just narrow it down to what you people want or what your ideas are. It should be put out there to all of us in the village to reach a consensus on. There may not be one consensus but at least every resident could have ‘a dog in the race,” he told the mayor and trustees. George Salem commented on St. Paul’s and asked if a comprehensive list of all the consultants and contracts now active in the preparatory stages of the St. Paul’s concept plan could be published. The Board of Trustees noted that the village website contains information on plans and hired consultants for St. Paul’s, from Beyer Blinder Belle and Thornton Tomasetti to The Sports Facility Advisory Group. Salem said there should be a clear and concise breakdown for consultants names, what their compensation is or will be, and what their responsibility of design and function of the Centre at St. Paul’s project would entail. The Board agreed to that type of list. Salem asked if the various consultants communicate with

Mayor: Village may cut off information to News BY MEG MORGAN NORRIS At its meeting on January 17th, the Garden City Board of Trustees announced that it plans to remove the Garden City News' designation as "official newspaper" as of April 8th and instead name the Garden City Life as "official newspaper". In addition to removing the Village's paid legal advertising from the News, Mayor Brian Daughney said the Village may also stop providing the News with news and information
from other village departments such as the library and recreation department on that date. "We'll have to decide," he said. Villages are required by state law to designate a newspaper each year to publish their official legal notices. In Garden City that designation was made last April at the annual organizational meeting of the Board. The Garden City News has been the official newspaper of the Village for over fifty years. The resolution to make the change appeared on the meet-
