year. Trustee Daughney asked Village Treasurer Irene Woo for some concrete numbers on the village’s scheduled capital projects for (current) fiscal year 2019’20, “which are not yet done,” covering the period from June 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020. Woo told the Board in a few weeks the Finance staff will meet with every village department head to listen to their updates on existing
At the Central Property Owners’ Association meeting and holiday season gathering on Tuesday, December 10 at the Garden City Senior Center School Board President Angela Heineman updated neighbors on school district happenings and the schedule of Board of Education meetings and presentations, starting with the Tuesday, January 7 work session featuring the annual Student Achievement Report for the district. She commented on safety upgrades, the full-time security supervisor and new protocols in the district as well as the school bus stop safety initiative with the district coordinating with Garden City Police. A week later on December 17, at the last Board of Education meeting of the year held at Stewart School, Heineman announced that she is not seeking re-election for 2020-’21 and beyond as she’s currently completing her 12th year as a board of education trustee. “I will be finishing out my term which ends June 30, 2020. I decided not to seek re-election and I wanted to let the public know as you will hear about it as the electoral process in the Village plays out (starting with the Resident Electors’ meeting of her Central Property Owners’ Association and the other 3 POA’s all on Tuesday, January 21). In the meantime for the next six months it’s business as usual for me, the school board and our school district in putting the students first and our schools’ community first. Thank you,” she said, eliciting a round of applause from all administration, board members and parents present on December 17. Heineman ascended to the volunteer position of school board president after serving as the GCUFSD board’s vice president under President Barbara Trapasso. In June of 2015, Trapasso submitted her resignation effective at the end of the school year (June 30). Angela Heineman was initially elected to be board president when the school board reorganized less than two weeks later. On July 8, 2015 a school board comprised of four trustees (after Trapasso resigned) re-organized for the 2015-’16 school year and elected Heineiman as the board president and Tom Pinou as vice president. Since then Heineman and Pinou have served in their respective board roles. The CPOA recently submitted a press release which was
