Town Board goes back to in-person meetings, with PPE BY RIKKI MASSAND The Oyster Bay Town Board took some steps toward reassembling in person for its biweekly meetings at 54 Audrey Avenue, with Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino joined by four of the six councilmembers on the dais Tuesday, May 19. While Councilmen Tom Hand and Louis Imbroto participated via telephone, Councilmembers Steve Labriola, Michele M. Johnson, Vicki Walsh, and Laura L. Maier were physically distanced in taking their seats for the May 19 meeting, and wearing proper face masks and PPE. Continuing to attend with safety precautions in place were Town Receiver of Taxes Jeff Pravato and Town Clerk Richard LaMarca and a ste-

nographer front and center, as since April they had previously been the only individuals joining Supervisor Saladino at the Board meetings while others had been phoning-in. Councilman Labriola, a former New York State assemblyman and former Deputy Nassau County Comptroller, announced that the Town has acquired the 26-acre Littauer Estate on Split Rock Road in Oyster Bay Cove, minutes northwest of Syosset, part of which still operates in a functioning agricultural use with animals. The Town will operate the property as a passive recreation and visitor site with a conservation agreement with the North Shore Land Alliance. The See page 10

Syosset Memorial Day plans Students throughout the Bethpage School District wrote encouraging letters to healthcare workers and hospital patients as a part of the district’s “Hope for Heroes” initiative. Photos courtesy of the Bethpage Union Free School District Students throughout the Bethpage School District showed love and support for healthcare workers and hospital patients with their “Hope for Heroes” initiative. Students wrote encouraging letters in both English and Span-

ish to be distributed to hospitals throughout Long Island. Director of Social Studies Dan Fazio thought of the idea after being inspired by the work of fellow Bethpage educators. “‘Hope for Heroes’ stemmed from a combination

of Mrs. Oak's Spanish club and Mrs. Glassman's SADD Club. I was fortunate enough to collaborate with them and it is a great way to spread some positivity during this challenging time,” said Fazio.

For the first time in eighty years, downtown Syosset will not be filled with bands and trucks and patriotic marchers on Memorial Day 2020. However, Syosset and Woodbury residents can still experience the sights and sounds of the community's annual Memorial Day Parade through the magic of YouTube. The 80th Annual Syosset-Woodbury Memorial Day Observance, which premieres on YouTube at

10:00am on Monday, May 25th, is a virtual community gathering in honor of Syosset and Woodbury's fallen service members, featuring musical performances, guest speakers, and a touching video tribute to local military men who lost their lives in WWI, WWII, and the Vietnam Conflict. This twenty-minute program will be available for viewing all day long on Memorial Day. See page 10
