Arrested twice for car thefts

Clifton Woods

Nassau County Police arrested a homeless man twice in two weeks for allegedly stealing cars in the Hicksville area. According to Nassau County Police, on April 29th at 8:35 p.m. they received a call about a suspicious 2017 black Dodge Durango on Mayflower Drive in Hicksville. Police say they found Clifton Woods, 19, operating the vehicle, which had earlier been reported stolen. Police say that when Woods was arrested he also

possessed several credit cards that had been reported stolen in additional Nassau County larcenies. Woods had been arrested a week earlier in Hicksville for allegedly stealing a 2010 Ford Explorer from in front of a home on Michigan Drive in Hicksville. In that incident, police said that Woods fled the scene on foot when confronted, but failed to put the vehicle in park, causing it to strike a parked car.

During the Oyster Bay Town Board’s meeting held on Tuesday, May 5, Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino provided an update with the latest statistics and operations at local hospitals, including the Town’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic. His statements provided insights on greater New York and Nassau County’s public health emergency as May begins. As of May 4 Nassau County had 36,965 confirmed cases of COVID19. Saladino said that a total of 12% of people in the County during the day May 4 turned out positive for COVID-19. He announced this as a drop of 52% in the infection rate “from where we were three weeks ago.” The supervisor said well over 50% of people tested in mid-April would come back as positive for the virus. The numbers continue to drop and hopes are for the curve to have flattened. Saladino then reported great news from a major New York healthcare institution, Northwell Health, operator of Syosset and Plainview Hospitals in the Town of Oyster Bay. "Syosset Hospital here in the Town of Oyster Bay was cleared and is completely void of COVID-19

hospital patients -- they are resuming essential (urgent) surgeries and transitioning back to a normally functioning hospital. We pray, dear God, that this statistic continues at Syosset Hospital and that our other area hospitals -- Northwell’s Plainview Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage -- will see less and less patients. We thank all our amazing healthcare workers at the hospitals in Syosset, Plainview and St. Joe's. Tremendous heroes work there!" he said. As of May 5, there were roughly 1,400 cases of COVID-19 being actively treated across Northwell Health system hospitals. On April 7 their total was approximately 3,500 cases. Hours after the supervisor’s announcement May 5, Northwell Health Senior Vice President Terry Lynam commented on behalf of the healthcare system and said with concerns Northwell’s emergency departments at each hospital remain fully operational, 24/7. He explained the recent developments as several forms of urgent surgeries, including cancer-related procedures, resumed in the last week of April to catch up on a backlog of urgent surgeries with postponeSee page 12
