keep us safe – and we wanted to thank them,” said Rohan Manjrekar, a sophomore at Hicksville High School (HHS). So, in early April, he

Arrest for car theft in Hicksville Nasau County Police arrested a 19 year-old Hicksville man on April 21st for allegedly stealing a neighbor's car. According to police, Clifton Woods, 19, of Michigan Drive, took a 2010 Ford Explorer from in front of another home on the street.
Police say the victim had left the car unattended, with the key in the ignition. While conducting a canvass of the area, police officers say they located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver refused. Police say Woods exited the vehicle on Salem Road, but failed to
put the car into park causing the vehicle to strike a parked car. The driver then allegedly ran and hopped a nearby fence, entering a nearby backyard. Police located the suspect and he was placed under arrest at 8:25 am without further incident.
The Jericho Board of Education’s meeting on Thursday, April 23 had over 100 participants tuned in live online -- over 50 on Zoom and another 50 on Facebook Live. Six weeks into the Coronavirus’ shutdown of all school facilities, the community heard about many topics for K through 12 educators and local families moving forward, including the likelihood that the rest of school year 2019-2020 will taking place virtually, dashing some hopes for June’s traditional year-end with JHS Class of 2020 festivities and graduation. While students and parents are providing some suggestions, Jericho High School administrators are “exploring creatively” for scenarios of what graduation could look like, and when that would occur. Jericho Superintendent of Schools Hank Grishman said some novel discussions have been held on the potential to hold a makeup Class of 2020 Senior Prom over the Thanksgiving weekend or potentially in December this year, in consideration that many who go away for college would return home to Jericho as fall college semesters end. A Class of 2020 Graduation cer-
emony possibility involves taking into account college semester move-ins and starting dates. Grishman noted that parents and faculty mentioned that most students will still be in town for the August 7, 8 and 9 weekend. Ideas will continue to circulate with discretion based on New York State and Nassau County Department of Health guidance before a decision can be made. Grishman said one of the pressing questions he’s received is on what the district will do to assess students’ academic and experiential growth by late June, and to assess what supports need to be put in place by the start of the school year next September. “One of the things we’ll need to do is assess, by department and by school, where we are and the progress we’ve made being online until June. We are even thinking that if we do have normal opening in September, we might take 1 to 3 additional Superintendent’s Conference Days at the opening of school to assess the curriculum that was covered and where we may need to fill some holes. Very frankly we may also need the time to evaluate where and how we supSee page 23
