Largest “Cruise-Thru” Toys for Tots collection drive Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand announced that the Town’s massive “Cruise-Thru” Toys for Tots Collection Drive will take place at John Burns Park in Massapequa on Saturday, December 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain
date is Sunday, December 5). In partnership with the United States Marine Corps, the Town is collecting toys to help families impacted by the COVID-19 economic crisis and those less fortunate throughout the community during the upcoming holiday season. In addi-

Todd Winch,who has worked as a teacher and administrator in the Levittown School district, will officially be sworn in as the new superintendent of schools in July of 2022. Winch, who currently serves as assistant superintendent for instruction, will take over for Dr. Tonie McDonald after her planned retirement at the end of the 2021–22 school year. The Board of Education tapped Mr. Winch to lead the district at its monthly meeting last Thursday night. Winch has spent the majority of his twenty-six years involved with school districts working in Levittown as a social studies teacher at Division Avenue High School, and in his current role as assistant superintendent for Instruction. “Working under Dr. McDonald these past few years, we have continued to enhance so many different aspects of the school district,” said Winch. “We have instituted an array of different things, including building a new outdoor learning center at Memorial, a complete renovation of the auditorium at MacArthur, added a new upstairs cafeteria to North Side and upgraded the tennis courts at Division. We’ve also added more opportunities for outdoor learning, with more outdoor classrooms, a greenhouse and newly built ponds at our elementary and middle schools.” He said that in his new role as superintendent, he plans to continue bringing back a sense of normalcy to the students and staff who make up the Levittown School district. “I am going to take this opportunity in my new role to help our district recover from the pandemic, and to bring back all of the programs and activities that were either canceled or put on the shelf. I think that academically and sports-wise, the district is all the way back. I’d like to return some of our extracurricular activities to the way they were, including things like school clubs and See page 10
