It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Bethpage High School, last Thursday, as students from ESY (Extended Schoolyear Program) introduced a new onsite business. The business was called ESY EATS, which helps to promote vocational and employment ready skills. "The ESY program, which is for our special education students, was created to give students the vocational experiences and skills they need to translate into the real world and get opportunities for the future," said Lisa Lucchesi, Executive Direc-
tor for Special Education at the High School. She said that this was the first year that the district created an in-house vocational experience for the students. "For the week of July 19th, the theme of ESY EATS, was Christmas in July, where our students and staff members dressed in festive outfits, they doled out holiday themed treats and drinks to their customers," said Lucchesi. Funds available for rental help The Town of Oyster Bay was the recent recipient of $16 million in Federal funds to assist renters facing economic hardships and housing insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program, designed to help renters facing difficulty in paying their rent and utilities/home energy costs, is being administered by the Long Island Housing Partnership and the
official submission period has now opened. Qualifying residents can submit an application now through August 20 by visiting www. oysterbaytown.com/rentalassistance and following the links. Supervisor Saladino stated, “These Federal funds were granted to the Town of Oyster Bay to help residents recover from economic hardships created
by the pandemic and government shutdowns.
