Town participates in school supply collection

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced today that the Town of Oyster Bay will participate in Long Island Cares’ School Supply Drive. The drive, which takes place during the months of July and August, collects new and gently used school supplies for disadvantaged students. “Children are our most precious resource and together, we can help make the beginning of the school year a positive experience for Long Island’s students,” said Supervisor Saladino. “The Town is proud to partner with LI Cares to collect generous donations for this worthwhile cause.”

The most needed school supplies are: new backpacks, new lunch boxes, binders, notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, erasers, pencil cases, construction paper, foreign language dictionaries, dictionaries, loose leaf paper, printer paper, rulers, crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, tape, calculators, and books. Those interested in supporting the School Supply Drive can place donated items in drop off boxes located in the following Town of Oyster Bay locations: • Town Hall North – 54 Audrey Avenue - Oyster Bay

• Town Hall South – 977 Hicksville Road – Massapequa • Hicksville Athletic Center – 167 S. Broadway - Hicksville • Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center – 1001 Stewart Avenue - Bethpage Regular business hours for the Town locations are 9:00am to 4:45pm. For more information about the program, residents may visit www.licares. org or call Esther Alter in the Town’s Public Information Office at (516) 6246380.

The PGA Championship will again be played at the Black course at Bethpage State Park, said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran on July 19th. Curran welcomed the PGA, as did representatives from New York State Parks, the Town of Oyster Bay, and Discover Long Island, and also welcomed PGA Championship Director Scott Reid and his staff to Bethpage State Park in advance of next year’s PGA Championship. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place outside the PGA’s temporary on-site offices at Bethpage, and was attended by numerous local representatives and regional news outlets. “The PGA Championship is one of the largest sporting events in the world, and it’s expected that 1,800 temporary, full-time and part-time jobs will be created, along with a projected $100 million dollars in economic benefit to Nassau County,” said County Executive Laura Curran. This will be the first PGA Championship held on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park and the 13th conducted in the state of NY; more than any other state. Next year’s PGA Championship will be played May 13th-19th, marking the tournament’s official move from August to May as a result of a larger shift in the professional golf calendar. In 2024, the PGA of America will return to Bethpage once again to conduct golf’s preeminent team competition, the Ryder Cup. This will be the first Ryder Cup held in greater New York Metro since 1935. Those interested in volunteering or attending the Championship as a spectator can visit PGAChampionship.com to learn more about volunteer and ticket registration.
