Town of Oyster Bay opens community pools for season First pools on Long Island to open this year

Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Receiver of Taxes Jeff Pravato officially kick off the 2020 pool season with the Town’s lifeguard fleet.

Drive-in movies for kids

After hosting a successful drive-in movie series in June, the Town of Oyster Bay announces a new Drive-In Movies Series for Children this July and August. The following children’s movies are playing at a pop-up theatre near you beginning at dusk: • Wednesday, July 8th – Frozen II at Ellsworth W. Allen Park in Farmingdale; • Wednesday, July 15th – Toy Story 4 at Harry Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing;

• Wednesday, July 22nd – Secret Life of Pets 2 at Ellsworth W. Allen Park in Farmingdale; • Wednesday, July 29th – Finding Dory at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach in Oyster Bay; and • Wednesday, August 5th – Honey, I Shrunk the Kids at Ellsworth W. Allen Park in Farmingdale. Vehicles will be admitted to the parking lot on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 7 p.m. the day of the event.

For the safety of all residents, moviegoers must remain in their cars. Portable restroom facilities will be on-site. Movies are subject to change and will be held weather permitting. For more information, please call (516) 797-7925. Moviegoers are asked to consider donating a nonperishable food item upon arrival at the drive-in. All donations will benefit Island Harvest Food Bank.

The Town of Oyster Bay opened two of its community park pools this weekend, the first to open on Long Island. Syosset-Woodbury and Tappen pools are officially open, with pools at Plainview-Old Bethpage, Marjorie Post in Massapequa and Bethpage Parks all scheduled to open June 27. “Our Town pools and beaches are a staycation destination for residents of all ages and that especially holds true this year, as many of us have had to readjust summer plans,” said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “We recognize that our local pools have become a backyard oasis for many young families and seniors, that’s why we’ve made many enhancements to them over the past few years. This summer, we’ve taken action to further ensure the health of our residents by implementing new safety protocols to ensure all who visit our facilities feel safe this summer.”

The Town’s five pool locations include Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, Tappen Beach, Marjorie R. Post Community Park in Massapequa, Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park and Bethpage Community Park. Pool admission is limited to Town residents, however non-residents are permitted with a resident. Residents are reminded to practice social distancing throughout the facility, except when with their own household or family unit. Masks should not be worn in the water. Pool facilities will once again offer complimentary sunscreen stations. Residents who are interested in pool memberships can inquire at any community park pool, and swim lessons will also be available to youngsters age five and older. Pedestrian hit on Old Country Road

Nassau County Police are investigating a serious accident in which a pedestrian was hit on Monday, June 22nd on Old Country Road. According to police, a 51-yearold male was driving a 2016 Ford van west on West Old Country Road that struck a 62-year-old male crossing from south to north

in the vicinity of Newbridge Road. Second Precinct police arrived and assisted in treating the victim for head trauma with members of the Hicksville Fire Department. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is ongoing.
