Town Board to update codes, traffic regulations

At its meeting on Tuesday, March 9th, the Town of Oyster Bay discussed a proposed law that would make a variety of changes to traffic rules throughout the town. The meeting was held with Supervisor Joseph Saladino present inside Town Hall North on Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay and the six Councilmembers participating via teleconference. The Town Board introduced the Local Law and once public comments are received the new traffic chapter will be published in an electronic version. Residents will be able to find the updated version of the Town Code on the Town’s website, OysterBayTown.com For 10 days from the date of this Tuesday’s public hearing the record will remain open (up to March 19) for public input and comments into the proposed law and its impacts. Comments on the traffic code updates and regulations can be directed to the Town two ways: via post mail to the Office of the Town Attorney at 54 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay, NY 11771; via email, send to OysterBay-NY. gov. Supervisor Saladino directs residents with any questions on submitting comments to reach his office via telephone at 516-624-6350 or with calls to any Town Board member.

Updates to existing laws

Members of the military with donated DVDs The Kiwanis Club of Levittown recently teamed with Massapequa-based “Big Hy for Heroes” to spearhead a drive to collect and distribute thousands of DVDs for US troops overseas and for children in local hospitals. In just six weeks, and through mere word-ofmouth, the club collected and distributed well over 15,000 DVDs – from movie mysteries, comedies &

thrillers, to TV series and informational/educational specials. In addition to the 15,000+ DVDs sent to the troops, we also received hundreds of children’s videos, which were donated to local cancer-treatment hospitals. This is just one of the many services and projects Levittown Kiwanis, along with its affiliate Key Clubs, engage in throughout the

year – even during this COVID-restricted time! If you’d like to know more about the club, you can visit its Facebook page or come to one of its bi-monthly meetings: Bramalos Restaurant - 2837 Jerusalem Avenue – North Bellmore NY 11710 7 p.m./2nd & 4th Thursday each month.

Supervisor Saladino called on special counsel Thomas Sabellico from the Town Attorney’s office for this item to be introduced. He explained the proposal and listened to Town Councilmembers’ comments before action was taken. Sabellico was joined Tuesday by Ken Bishop of the Highway Department, who he said was “instrumental in putting the local law together.” “Periodically the Town Highway Department receives requests and inquiries from residents and law enforcement regarding traffic rules and regulations and traffic control signs in the Town. Over the past several years there have been great improvements in technology with GoogleEarth and the GIS systems. With amazing changes in developments throughout the Town it became necessary to coordinate all the Town regulations -- that’s what the local law does in establishing an updated version of all the traffic signs including all stop signs, red lights, all the parking signs including No Parking zones/restrictions throughout the Town. This chapter sits on its own but it is an effective part of the Town Code, and it is now brought up to date,” Sabellico said. Councilmember Steve Labriola thanked Sabellico for the traffic regulation updates in “this impressive and comprehensive piece of legal work.” He then See page 15
