The varsity cheerleading team from Division Avenue High School had a triumphant start to their competition season. The team recently placed first at a Section 8 competition at Oceanside High School, executing a clean routine that was free from any deductions. The team’s high score will be averaged with the rest of their scores from throughout
the season. The top 50% of teams in their division will advance to the Nassau County Championships in March. The team has embarked on a new endeavor this year, competing in the coed division, with one male student-athlete on the team. In addition, the team recently competed at the Universal Cheerleaders Associa-
tion’s Empire Regional championship, earning first place in the small coed division. This prestigious win is a first for the Dragon cheerleading program, coached by Cristen Ronzo and Liz Lynch, and it resulted in an automatic bid to compete at the UCA High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, FL this February.
