School board recognizes outstanding students at meeting

At the Dec. 17 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton recognized several outstanding achievements by an educator and students, highlighting the district’s continued commitment to excellence in music, visual arts, and athletics. Starting the evening of recognitions, Kerri Kamping, a dedicated music educator in the Hicksville Public Schools, was recently named the recipient of the 2025 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Early Career Achievement Award. This prestigious honor recognizes a pre-K–12 music educator who, within the first five to 15 years of their career, has demonstrated exceptional teaching excellence and a deep commitment to advancing music education across New York State.

Hicksville High School student Raven Canzoneri was selected as a recipient of the Award of Merit for Visual Arts through the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) Scholar–Artist Awards program. Her artwork is currently being showcased as part of this prestigious recognition. The LIAA Scholar Artist Awards program honors outstanding high school artists in Visual Arts, Music, Theater, Dance and Media Arts. Students are nominated by public, private, and parochial schools across Long Island. From these nominees, monthly winners are selected from Nassau and Suffolk counties throughout the school year. In addition to the Awards of Distinction, 20 students receive Awards of Merit at a year-end recognition event. The program is See page 7
