eld at Peter Street Kitchen in Manchester, which opened especially for the occasion, the invite-only event played host to around 50 guests, each of whom have worked with eponymous owner, Kate Park, during the firm’s inaugural decade. Founded in 2014, Kate Park Events has organised approximately 40 functions per year, amounting to around 50,000 guests over the 10 years, with private and commercial commissions ranging from intimate weddings to large-scale corporate events. With the ability to find and book a helicopter for a client with just 24-hours notice, Kate has faced any manner of client requests during her 21 years working in events. “This first ten years have gone by in a flash and I still love it as much as I did on day one,” said Kate. “No request is ever too big, nor any detail too small and whether it’s organising a sit-down meal for 10 people or throwing the biggest party a business has ever seen, I still attack every brief with the same enthusiasm and willing to do a good job.” One of Kate’s first commissions was from LVMH Watch & Jewellery, aka Louis Vuitton, to organise its Christmas party. This is a client Kate has proudly represented to this day. She continued: “One of the things I’m very proud of is client retention. I get lots of word-of-mouth recommendations and private customers have also appointed me for corporate work, so it’s been great to have that crossover. “I pride myself on is anonymity so, whilst I have worked for several A-list celebrities over the years, I’ll only ever share their name with their explicit permission.” Kate’s corporate clients include FootAsylum, Atlas and Gusto and her next big private commission is a wedding for 450 guests, alongside a wedding in Italy. kateparkevents.co.uk

TH E RESPON DER R ET U R N S Martin Freeman is back in the role of Chris Carson and discusses getting back in character, what we can expect from the new series and that scouse accent

S

eries two joins Chris Carson, six months on from series one. Chris is attempting to rebuild his life, and his relationships, desperate to avoid the corruption that nearly sucked him under.

Were you surprised by the audience’s reaction to the first series of The Responder? We were all excited by the first series and hoped what we were making was a good show. There are a few times in your life, if you’re lucky, when people connect with something you’ve made in a way that goes beyond your dreams or what you could have wished for. I really believed in the show and felt it was a very good piece of work. It’s one of the most successful things I’ve worked on and I knew within reading the first five pages that I wanted to play this character.

Were you pleased at the reaction to your scouse accent? It was a massive relief! It still gives me real joy when I hear people say, “I didn’t know Martin was a Scouser” and when Scouse people say to me “I didn’t know you were from here”, that’s

the best. It’s like being a double agent, I got away with it!

What was your reaction when you read Tony Schumacher’s scripts for series two? Tony has been writing for a long time but the fact that this is his first television drama means he is far from having gotten into a comfortable groove or formulaic. He just puts on the page whatever the hell he thought needed to be

27

What do you like about Chris as a character to play? The reason I wanted to play Chris is that he is a great mixture of vulnerability and strength. I think there is something about a man of few words that is attractive. There’s a reason why people like characters that don’t have to over-explain themselves and I think Chris is one of them. What I like about this show is that we weren’t judging him. You don’t always like a person but that doesn’t mean you write them off as a human being completely. Chris doesn’t always have to be doing the right thing and that appealed to me. He’s not super cop but he is essentially a decent person. He is complicated and conflicted.

Where do we find Chris in series two? there and that is exciting. I connected with Chris immediately. What I liked about him, and Tony’s writing, is that sometimes we can mistake a drama for an essay on how human beings are supposed to behave with each other. That’s not what this is, and it is not what it has become for series two. Tony has kept that authenticity and thankfully has avoided any of those traps – which keeps the scripts feeling fresh and the characters true to those we created in series one.

How was it coming back to play Chris? And what is it that gets you back into character? It’s the accent and the uniform – I move differently and speak differently. Any accent you do, it’s a physical act and creates a chain reaction from what you’re creating vocally to the rest of you and the uniform is a big help, it changes how I move and walk because it is so cumbersome and it’s not comfortable.

28

It’s six months on and Chris’ relationship with his missus is in a bad way. He loves his daughter, but his marriage is not in a good place. His relationship with his job is terrible and we join him at a point where he’s trying to help himself. In the first series, we saw him attending therapy sessions provided by the police service but it’s hugely underfunded so this time round he is attending his local church men’s group run by a priest, Father Liam. He’s trying to help himself and find some light.

In series one Chris claimed that all he wanted was to be a good bobby. What does Chris aspire to be in series two? Chris wants to be a good dad and a happier person but he’s not in a good way and that’s at the heart of the story. It’s not all about Chris but we do see him experiencing different levels of stress, anger and regret. What Tony does brilliantly is let his scripts breathe and that’s my favourite thing about

TheCHESHIRE CHESHIREMagazine Magazine| Regulars | Feature The

It’s one of the most successful things I’ve worked on and I knew within reading the first five pages that I wanted to play this character

them. Rather than be too plot driven, the drama is story and character led and in series two we get to see more of the lives of the characters we came to care about in series one.

How has the relationship between Chris and his former partner Rachel changed and grown since series one?

Chris and Rachel’s relationship is thawing out a little now they’re getting a little bit closer. The battle lines between them are coming down a little bit and they’re a bit less spikey with each other. There’s a bit more air in their relationship now they can look at each other and go, “you’re all right, you’re a good person.” That doesn’t sound very dramatic, but it’s real. I like their relationship a lot for that and the fact they look out for each other, in their own ways. When we first met them, Rachel doesn’t want to be mentored by Chris because he’s a mess. She’s just come out of college and she’s on probation and is still thinking she can do it by the book and Chris is in no doubt that you can’t do it like that. In series one they are at opposite ends of the spectrum, but in this series that has all changed. Chris is wanting to be better, a better dad, a better copper, but Rachel is deeply struggling and isn’t playing it by the book anymore – so they are at the other ends of the spectrum.

How is Chris’ relationship with Kate and how is it working with MyAnna Buring? Chris and Kate are not in an easy place. We’ve

never seen them in love, in the first flush of that relationship when they presumably were a bit more carefree and all that, and he was probably a bit less of a nightmare and she was probably a bit less moany. But they are both those things now. So the stuff with Kate and Chris is pretty heavy, but playing that with MyAnna is great, she’s great. She’s fun and bananas and so we are very different in real life from Chris and Kate!

29

he would be right for Franny and he is. I love him, and I love working with him.

We meet Chris’ dad in this series, why is that such an important character? Chris’ dad is an important character in this series because it’s part of Chris’ origin story. We’ve met his mum, now we’re going to meet his dad. And, as has been established in the first series, in Chris’ chats with his mum and his chats with his therapist, his dad is a very important figure in his life, for obvious reasons all round, but is probably the root of his rage. It’s not an easy, straightforward relationship with his dad.

What is Chris’ relationship with Franny? Franny is a major drug dealer and all-round shadowy guy who has a building firm. So ostensibly he’s a builder, but he also runs a massive drug cartel in Liverpool. He is a very charming, likable fellow, but one who will get people killed if it’s in the way of his business interest.

Why did you want Adam Nagaitis for the role of Franny? Casting Franny was really important because it was a big character so I asked if we could see Adam Nagaitis because ever since I saw him in The Terror, I thought that he was unbelievably good. He just had something that was scary and very, very beguiling about him and because he has that balance of danger and charm, I thought

30

Casey and Marco were such popular characters in series one, what can we expect from them this series? Marco and Casey are brilliant. I’m gutted that I hardly have anything to do with Marco in this series. I have a little bit to do with Casey, but not as much. And I want my money back!! Because I want to be with Marco and Casey more as they’re such great characters. Josh and Emily have a certain spark with each other. It’s very easy between them and they became best mates instantly. They’ve taken the role as the naughty school kids at the back of the class in this production, but they’re fantastic at their jobs, as a craft, they’re really good at it, they both give beautiful performances. Really beautiful. Available now on BBC iplayer

Wa tche tchess and Won ond ders 2024 THE REVIEW As the luxury watch world descended on Geneva for this year’s Watches and Wonders, Jamie McFadden headed to the Swiss exhibition to get up close with some of the finest horological releases for 2024

Patek Philippe A specialist in World Timers, Patek Philippe introduces the Ref. 5330G to its current collection in Geneva, having been released as a limited edition at last year’s Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition “Watch Art” Tokyo, at that time an exclusive for the Japanese market. This new generation of the World Time is distinguished by a patented world first, namely a date display that is indexed to local time. Displaying time across an opaline blue-grey dial, this 40mm white gold case is complemented by a blue-grey calfskin strap with contemporary denim pattern. 5330G-001, £65,600

Throwing back to yesteryear, Patek Philippe launches the first metal bracelet to its Golden Ellipse Ref. 5738, introducing a woven bracelet in polished 18ct rose gold, made up of 363 elements, of which more than 300 links are individually mounted by hand. The bracelet, coupled with its engraved clasp, are a fine tribute to the 1970s, further supported by its crisp ebony dial, providing a timeless, understated aesthetic epitomising the spirit of the Golden Ellipse, first introduced by Patek Philippe in 1968. Ref. 5738/1R-001, £51,470

The quintessential Patek Philippe travel watch, the Alarm Travel Time Ref. 5520 was introduced this year in a new two-tone version with rose gold case, four white gold pusher tubes and a sunburst grey dial. This Grand Complication is powered by the self-winding AL 30-660 S C FUS caliber which is protected by four patents and combines the exclusive Travel Time dual-time display with a 24-hour alarm mechanism featuring a hammer which strikes a classic gong. 5520RG-001, £222,020

Rolex Rolex introduced two new Oystersteel variations to its iconic GMT-Master II family this year, both featuring a new graduated two-colour Cerachrom bezel insert in grey and black ceramic. The only Oystersteel watch released by the remarkable Swiss watchmaker at this year’s event, the new GMT-Master II is introduced on both a Jubilee and Oyster bracelet. Often described as the perfect watch for frequent travellers, the Rolex GMT-Master II is driven by calibre 3285, a movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology, which enables it to display the date and an additional time zone in 24-hour format, as well as the hours, minutes and seconds. M126710GRNR, from £9,350

“An expression for every face. A personality for every dial” say Rolex of their new Day-Date dial variations. This year, the brand enriches their Day-Date range with new versions of the Day-Date 40 and the Day-Date 36 showcasing finely worked dials. Most popular at the fair have been the ombré dials, which make their first appearance on the Day-Date 40. As Rolex themselves say, this selection truly allows the wearer to display their personality on their wrist, and our favourites are the slate dial introduced on the Day-Date 40 in 18ct Everose gold, and a stylish blue-green dial introduced on the Day-Date 36 in 18ct Everose gold, surrounded by ten baguette cut diamonds. This blue-green dial was first welcomed to the Rolex family within the Sky-Dweller range in 2023. Rolex Day-Date 36, from £30,700

We’d also like to shine a spotlight on another majestic launch from Rolex, bringing light to the deep with this new Rolex Deepsea, crafted for the first time in 18ct yellow gold with blue ceramic bezel insert and a blue lacquered dial. M136668LB, £45,700

IWC A standout release for IWC Schaffhausen at this year’s fair, the Portugieser Eternal Calendar perfectly underscores the brand’s technical mastery, in a 44mm platinum case. The first secular perpetual calendar from IWC, it automatically takes into account the Gregorian calendar’s complex leap year exceptions by skipping three leap years over a 400-year period. IWC’s watchmaking expertise is further evidenced by the moon phase display with a mathematical accuracy of 45 million years. IW505701, £POA

Panerai Panerai stands by its marine heritage at Watches and Wonders with the introduction of the PAM01466. The Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech™ strengthens the partnership between the Florence-founded brand and the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team, with a cutting edge 44mm watch. Cartier Introduced to the Maison’s Privé collection for 2024, Cartier reintroduces the Tortue, a brand icon first created in 1912. At that time, it was proof of the brand’s experimental nature ahead of the Art-Deco period during which Cartier was centre stage. The Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph leads the way this year, presented in 18ct yellow gold or platinum. £POA

TAG Heuer TAG Heuer breaks the boundaries of time in Geneva this year, with the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph, a fusion of heritage and innovation introduced in two colourways. A bold red version is inspired by the Monaco’s racing DNA, with a blue alternative paying homage to the watch’s original colour code.

ASK THE EXPERT SCENTED MOMENTOS JO MALONE LONDON’S GLOBAL HEAD OF FRAGRANCE CÉLINE ROUX TALKS ABOUT THE LIMITED-EDITION SCENTED MEMENTOS COLLECTION WITH PERFUMERS ANNE FLIPO, YANN VASNIER AND MARIE SALAMAGNE.

Where did the idea for Scented Mementos come from? Céline: I always used to visit antique markets when I was growing up in France and was pleasantly surprised to find that they were a really big thing when I moved to the UK. Whether you visit high-end shops or humble car boot sales, it’s always fascinating to be able to discover the different stories behind old objects. I thought that this would be a really fun starting point for our annual British-inspired collection. Can you tell us a little about creating the scent? Yann: We actually sampled different ginger beers in one of our first smelling sessions with the team, and really liked how the ginger tended to be rounded out by warm spices. We carried this through into the fragrance development, using a new extract of fresh cut ginger from India, which is different from traditional extracts that are derived from dried ginger root. It lends a real freshness to the composition, which is then balanced by warm and sensual notes. We then added cinnamon for the warmth and amyris for sensuality. How would you describe Ginger Beer in just a few words? Yann: For me, it’s all about freshness, sensuality and comfort. Can you tell us a little about what we can expect from the Passiflora fragrance? Anne: The fragrance opens with a passiflora accord, which incorporates a dash of English honeysuckle, enveloped by the ambery roundness of vanilla and tonka bean, all underpinned by a combination of powerful and elegant woods.

44

You also worked on Emerald Thyme for this collection. How does this fragrance link to the concept? Anne: You always find old perfume bottles at antique markets, and between me, Céline and the team, we built up quite a collection. We reimagined the kind of aromatic scents we associated with these bottles and came up with a bracing, botanical infusion, featuring sparkling lemon wrapped in a bouquet of white thyme and rosemary. How would you describe Musk Memento in just a few words? Marie: Fresh, cocooning and enveloping. There’s also a home scent in this collection. Why did you decide to include a candle? Céline: For this collection, it really felt like we should have a candle; when you go to an antiques market, after all, you buy things for the home. For me, the Dawn Musk Home Candle offers a wonderful contrast of modernity and antiquity: I think of it as a modern memory box. It balances both woody and ambery notes with a lovely soapy cleanness, and this contrast of old and new reflects the collection as a whole perfectly. Marie, can you talk us through the scent of Dawn Musk? Marie: The candle combines clarity and luminosity with the cocooning comfort of white musk. By folding in ambery notes and adding even more comfort with patchouli, it presents an irresistible quality too. It’s both inviting and homely, with the power to suffuse a room with scent in the same way that a luxury soap can linger in a bathroom. jomalone.co.uk

TV and radio personality Jenny Powell on her role as sideline supporter, her love for Cheshire and why she opts for natural treatments from Dr Ed Robinson in Altrincham

J

enny Powell is used to the spotlight and the glamour of a high-profile showbiz life but the TV and radio presenter is often doing the less glitzy car duties to her daughter’s football training and matches. But the 55-year-old, who first burst onto our screens with her vibrant personality as a teenager on the BBC2 music show No Limits, is relishing the role on the sidelines supporting 15-year-old Polly, who is a promising player with Stoke City. “She trains with Stoke four times a week and they are out there in all weathers and I’m really happy about that. Mind you it was absolutely freezing last Saturday. It was Arctic and there were hailstones,” says Jenny. “They are so focused and it is great to see their commitment. It is fantastic to see kids have a passion for something other than sitting at home with gadgets. Teenagers are under so much pressure from social media these days and it is tough for them.”

46

It’s hard to believe that Jenny has been in the entertainment business for nearly forty years though no surprise she is still in high demand with TV, live events and hosting her weekend breakfast shows on Greatest Hits Radio. Her summer is also full of work fronting music festivals around the UK. “Presenting at the festivals is a great job because it is a bit like This is Your Life backstage as we pretty much all know each other and have met at various stages of our career,” laughs Jenny, who has lived in Cheshire for almost 30 years. “There’s a big sociable element to it as we are all catching up. “I’ve also got a show on commercial radio which has 1.4 million listeners, which is massive, and I’m doing a panel show on Channel 5 so I’m really busy.” Staying in the spotlight and being fresh, healthy and balanced takes some work and Jenny has just discovered new, natural aesthetics to enhance her stunning looks and the fun personality that have captivated generations of fans. She was introduced to Dr Ed Robinson, a leading aesthetic practitioner based in

The CHESHIRE Magazine | Health & Beauty

Altrincham, who specialises in natural treatments that rejuvenate skin tone, texture and colouring “I eat healthily, do lots of exercise and stay fit and have always stayed clear of Botox and fillers; it’s not for me,” she says. “My mum is 93 and looks about 63 so I’ve got good genes but I’m also an 80s girl and make-up was the thing, I don’t even take it off at night sometimes! I’m very holistic and spiritual and do a lot of yoga and would never want to change that and I wouldn’t want my face to look different. “But I was really interested in Dr Ed and it was good to talk to him and understand about these natural treatments. Being a mum in her 50s who is running around a lot, I noticed that my face was prone to becoming dehydrated and drawn and like a lot of women my age, I just want a bit of a boost. Dr Ed understood that I just want to look fresher but not look different. I was reassured by his expertise, knowledge and the fact he is an NHS anaesthetist as well so he knows his stuff.” Jenny tried micro needling – a process that stimulates the body’s natural collagen production to promote smoother, firmer skin – platelet-rich plasma therapy, a treatment that transfers plasma from the body to the face to improve texture and tone, and the use of Ameela polynucleotides, proteins involved in the body’s healing processes and regenerations.

“They were really quick and easy and there was a difference right away; a brightness in my face,” she says. “I didn’t tell my mum and she says I look so good at the moment – and she is one of the most critical people in the world! A lot of people are saying I look so well and that is exactly what I wanted. “I struggled with the concept of doing anything particularly as I’ve seen what happens to some people in the industry who have Botox and fillers. But this felt right and a way to do something gracefully. Now, I’m happy to go out without make-up more and more; something I haven’t done in decades. It’s been really liberating and I’m looking forward to walking around with a lot less make-up – my 80s vibe could possibly be eradicated by the summer! “If I have to wear make-up for work but I’m finding that it sits better on my face now so that is another benefit.” Jenny, whose other daughter Connie, 23, is an artist, has been careful to steer her children towards healthy eating and tech-lite lifestyles. “There’s so much on social media about body image with girls getting these fillers and Botox at a young age but thankfully they are not interested and have other focuses,” she says. “Image is important but I’m delighted to have found a natural way to give it a bit of a helping hand.” She is also firmly committed to Cheshire’s natural charms and adds: “Everyone loves leafy Cheshire. There has been a transformation around Altrincham and for the girls, it has been a brilliant place to grow up and be a teenager. Getting into Manchester is easy as is going to London from Stockport or Wilmslow. “A lot of my friends in London are very envious. They constantly talk about how difficult it is to get anywhere and the hassle they have. I love going to London but I love coming back to Cheshire.” dredrobinson.co.uk

Courses with… C H E F PAT R O N M I C H A E L S H A W F R O M M U S U I N M A N C H E S T E R STARTER: A STORY FROM YOUR EARLY YEARS THAT HELPED SHAPE YOU My career's inception was orchestrated by my grandmother. She arranged for me to visit an open day at Blackpool and Fylde Catering College, after which I secured a place. After my training I was steered towards an unforgettable tenure at Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons, following a successful trial shift that crystallised my aspirations. It was there, amidst the whirlwind of flavours and passion, that I truly found my calling.

MAIN COURSE: A MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF Navigating the tempestuous kitchens of culinary titans like Raymond Blanc, Richard Neat, Gordon Ramsey, and Marco Pierre White was an unbelievable experience. These experiences, filled with the raw intensity of Michelin-starred battlegrounds, were frankly really exhilarating. The electric tension, the pulsating atmosphere, the unabashed passion, and the fiery tempers forged an environment where mediocrity found no refuge. Yet, amidst these remarkable chapters, the pinnacle of my career was being awarded a Michelin star at Gilpin Lodge. This accolade, a testament to relentless pursuit and sacrifice, is my biggest achievement. In quiet moments of reflection, as I ponder the road I've travelled, my enduring passion whispers the reassurance that there could have been no other path for me.

DESSERT: WHAT IS THE SWEETEST STORY YOU CAN TELL?

The sweetest echo from my past invariably leads me back to my grandmother, whose generosity ignited the torch of my career. Her unwavering support and belief in me were encapsulated in the simplest, yet most profound of gestures, financing the first steps of my culinary journey. I fondly recall the battles of the dessert spoon over her remarkable rhubarb crumble, a recipe I daringly claim to rival today, albeit with a touch of jest. She, with her custard, and I, with my ice cream, would revel in the joy of shared moments. Her kindness and spirit still fill my memories with sweetness, a reminiscence of a soul so dearly missed. musumcr.com

or lovers of design and interiors, travel offers a trove of ideas and inspiration. From the bold lines and minimalism of Scandinavia to vibrant patterns and palettes of India, each country has its own unique flavour to discover when it comes to finding a place to stay. There are some seriously impressive hotels and boutique hideaways that I recommend if you’re looking for a home-from-home with something extra. To start, high on my wish list this year is the wonderfully unique Treehotel Sweden. Nestled in a secluded location in the north of the country, you can climb into your own ‘treehouse’ among the towering pines. The mirrored cubes and ‘Ufo’ are particularly stunning pieces of design and are an incredible spot from which to look out for the northern lights.

If you like the idea of admiring the night sky in peace and quiet, you’ll want to know about Bolivia Airstream Campers. Set in the remote Uyuni Salt Flat, these retro mobile pods can be chauffeured around the eerie desert expanse in search of the best places for stargazing, sunrises and sunsets across Bolivia’s most stunning natural landscape – truly unforgettable. Perhaps a stylish city break is more you? The Fifth Avenue Hotel was one of the most exciting new hotel openings last year, with ingeniously designed interiors giving the former Gilded Age mansion a modern twist. Romantic, eclectic and bold, it’s everything you could love about New York City. On a similar note, La Fantaisie Paris became instantly iconic upon opening in 2023. While set on the bustling Rue Cadet, this bolthole’s whimsical garden-inspired design cocoons you in a peaceful oasis that’s far removed from the city noise. With a combination of playful bohemian decor, prime city views and an excellent restaurant, this hotel proves that style doesn’t mean lack of substance. itc-uk.com

weekend away Daniel Khan returned to Liverpool for a city centre stay at The Municipal Hotel & Spa LOCATION

Having opened in May of last year, The Municipal Liverpool hotel takes residence in a Grade II listed heritage building from the mid-19th on the city’s vibrant Dale Street. Situated in the heart of Liverpool, the hotel is perfectly located for discovering the city, with luxury stores and the Royal Albert Dock conveniently nearby.

DESIGN

Design plays a leading role at The Municipal, with many of the building’s existing materials and features refreshed to create elegant new focal points. Reminders of the building’s past life as a council building also remain visible throughout the space, from a series of 7-foot-tall statues on the façade, to vintage phones and library style desks indoor. Reinventing a landmark of Liverpool’s heritage, the high point of the hotel is the building’s iconic clocktower, visible from across the city, that has also been carefully restored to bring it back to full working order.

ROOMS & SUITES

The iconic building spans four floors and features 179 luxurious rooms, with considered design references throughout that pay homage to the building’s rich heritage of French and Italian influences. The hotel’s rooms range from generously sized doubles to impressive suites with views of the Liverpool cityscape. Timeless charm meets

modern luxury in each space, with warming palettes of earthy tones and opulent textures coming together.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

The central Palm Court bar and lounge is the heart of the hotel and offers a real “wow” factor when you walk in. Here you can enjoy cocktails, all day dining and live music sets on selected days. The bar alone is worth a visit, to take in the ambience and try their infamous Mersey Paradise. The Seaforth restaurant hosts a hearty and varied breakfast. Dinner is also served within the restaurant, with menus reflecting connections to land and sea. My knowledgeable server, Michael, shared that the seared cod loin was the most popular dish on the menu. It was light, rich and most importantly, delicious.

WELLNESS AREA

The spa at Municipal is unlike any other you’ll find in Liverpool. It has it all; deluxe treatment rooms, a beauty lounge, a heated 16m pool, Himalayan Salt Sauna, Steam Room, Monsoon Experience Shower, Ice Experience, Plunge Bucket and Laconicum. Those with a passion for fitness can also work out in the fully equipped gym while enjoying views of the city.

MY EXPERIENCE

The Municipal Liverpool is filled with scouse charm, offering something for everyone. Whether you choose to escape and unwind in the spa, enjoy a catch up and cocktails with friends with friends in the stunning Palm Court or want to indulge on a date in the hotel’s Seaforth restaurant, Municipal is your perfect host. municipalhotelliverpool.com 69

M a dr drii d’s M ost I coni conicc H Ho o te tell Craig Hough visited Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid, a luxur y Belle Époque palace in the city’s famed Golden Triangle of Ar t History For over 114 years, the property has long been a pinnacle of style and luxury in Madrid. A lively gathering place for Spanish high society, the hotel’s restaurants and bars are a constant buzz of activity. A firm favourite with European royalty, the Ritz was opened by King Alfonso XIII and his wife Victoria Eugene of Battenberg in 1910 to host nobility and the cream of society. Over the years the hotel has hosted many royal visitors - from Royal Family of Monaco to Prince Charles and Princess Diana - and has also welcomed a who’s who of Hollywood stars including Sofia Loren, Orson Welles,

Warren Beatty and Julia Roberts. Mandarin Oriental Ritz is the place to be seen in Madrid.

Rooms and Suites With 100 elegantly designed rooms and 53 spacious suites, designed by Paris-based studio Gilles & Boissier, décor exudes a classic, contemporary feel with a soothing colour palette, luxurious fabrics and modern design accents. Views stretch out over the city, with some rooms and suites boasting private balconies overlooking the Prado Museum and the Plaza de la Lealtad. All the rooms are large and light with

71

oversized beds encased in exquisite linen. Bathrooms have marble floors and walls of an almost pure-white Dolomite stone, with rain showers and a stand alone bath. Each suite also benefits from a butler service that can prepare your bath - complete with rose petals and candles - or create a delicious cocktail. For families, there are interconnecting room options available and the hotel is incredibly welcoming to guests of all ages despite its city centre location.

Food and Beverage As a gastronomic destination, Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid offers five restaurants and bars, all headed up by esteemed Spanish chef Quique Dacosta, including Deessa, the gastronomic restaurant awarded two Michelin stars only eighteen months after opening its doors. César Ritz introduced the

72

concept of afternoon tea to Madrid and it has been brought back to be enjoyed in the hotel’s leafy Palm Court. Offering scones, clotted cream, sandwiches and pastries, you can admire the carefully restored crystal canopy ceiling and the fragmented mirror, which is a contemporary version of Velázquez’s mirror in Las Meninas. The à la carte breakfast is served in the Dining Room, offering something for every appetite. There’s an extensive à la carte menu, continental, Ritz and Royal Breakfast with healthier options also available. One of the highlights of the visit was sitting in the beautiful El Jardín del Ritz with Moët & Chandon which is a stylish al fresco destination. Serving a signature amuse-bouche tapas menu alongside a host of creative cocktails, mocktails and wine, it’s a gorgeous place to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a small dish and something fizzy.

Facilities The new state-of-the-art wellness centre at Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid provides the perfect sanctuary from the city. I chose a quiet morning and enjoyed both the sleek indoor swimming pool and vitality pool to myself. It was heaven. The wellness centre also had a gym that would appeal to fitness types and a dedicated treatment room offering guests a wide range of packages to fully unwind.

My Experience From the moment you step into Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid, you walk into a world of art, elegance and gastronomy, all wrapped in impeccable service. The classic sense of style acknowledges the country’s rich artistic heritage. This spectacular property is the epitome of luxury and excellence, book now and create memories that will last a lifetime. mandarinoriental.com

The Audi S3 may not be the biggest of Audi’s ‘S’ models

– in fact, it’s one of the smallest – but that doesn’t stop it packing a punch. This is the new model, available in hatchback and saloon forms, with more power and a better driving experience than ever before. Audi has given it a little more power, taking the total to 328bhp, and the seven-speed automatic gearbox is now more responsive. The suspension has been tweaked, the four-wheel-drive system is now cleverer and the design has been updated, while the interior is now more high-tech. But some things never change: the S3 is still proof that great cars don’t have to be big cars. Audi S3, audi.co.uk

DRIVE SPIDER SENSES

Keeping you up to date with all the latest motoring and technology news WORDS: JAMES FOSSDYKE

McLaren has taken the roof off its hybrid supercar, and it promises even more thrills as a result.

T

he use of the word ‘spider’ to denote an open-top vehicle pre-dates the invention of the car — spiders were originally open, horse-drawn coaches — but there’s nothing old-fashioned about the McLaren Artura Spider. Under the skin, it’s essentially the same hybrid supercar we drove a little while ago, albeit with a few minor tweaks. Chief among which is the removal of the roof, which has been replaced with a retractable panel that’s hidden away behind the seats. As a result, the Spider is a little heavier than the coupe, but only a little, and McLaren has battled that impact on fuel economy by giving the car a little more electric range. Before, the car could only do 19 miles on electric power alone – and then only if you drove carefully

– but now that figure has increased by more than 10% to, um… 21 miles… Hardly impressive, but it allows this rapid supercar to get 58.9mpg on the official economy test. Safe to say customers won’t get anywhere near that figure. Partly because McLaren has also given the Spider more power. Upping the hybrid system’s output to 690bhp and sharpening the gear shifts and improving the handling with small tweaks to the suspension, McLaren has made incremental improvements to the car’s feel and performance, but don’t think Spider customers are the only ones to benefit. McLaren is also making these changes to the coupe, and existing Artura coupe owners can get the extra 20bhp added to their car free of charge. McLaren Artura Spider, from £221,500, mclaren.com 76

BORN AGAIN If you’ve never heard of Cupra, then we can’t blame you. The relatively new brand is a spin-off of Seat, and the name was formerly reserved for the Spanish company’s performance models. These days, however, Cupra is its own brand building its own cars, including the Born electric vehicle, yet the high-performance roots have not been forgotten. Which is why there’s now a VZ version of the Born, providing hot hatchback power and performance with a clean, green, electric propulsion system. With 322bhp heading to the rear wheels and instant power delivery, it’s capable of 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 124mph, making it almost as fast as a Honda Civic Type R. COME L OR HIGH WATER Lexus is better known for its cars than anything else, but the Japanese luxury brand also has a small sideline in yachts. This, the LY680, is its latest vessel to wear the ‘L’ logo, and it’s an evolution of the old LY650. Designed to feel like a “hideout” on the water, the yacht has a bigger flybridge than its predecessor and gets a lounge area with a barbeque, as well as copper-coloured exterior accents and a modern, clean design. Inside, there are six berths and the yacht can carry a maximum of 15 people. Lexus is promising “confidence-inspiring cruise performance,” saying the LY680 will be quiet, stable and comfortable. But though it may be a Lexus, power comes from a pair of Volvo engines. Lexus LY680, £POA, lexus.co.uk

The BMW 5 Series has long been the world’s best saloon, writes James Fossdyke, but the new model takes the rule book and tears it up

W

hile I never expected to be a complete polymath, gardening is one of the many abilities that evaded my genetic make-up. At a push, I can just about keep a houseplant alive for a week while the powers that be are away, but aside from an underwhelming ability to use an electric hedge trimmer without cutting the cord, that’s about my limit. As a result, the value of a hardy perennial such as the agapanthus is not lost on me. If there’s a four-wheeled equivalent of the agapanthus – an almost indestructible thing that’s there every year no matter what – it’s the BMW 5 Series. BMW’s medium-sized saloon is one of those do-anything cars that operates as a luxury limousine, a family wagon and a sports car all at the same time. That it can do that is impressive, because the traits required for those three roles are often contradictory, but that it has done it year in and year out, no matter what the climate, country or culture, for more than 50 years is nothing short of miraculous. But the time has come for a new generation of 5 Series, and it has to remain hardy in a world that’s changing. Which is why BMW chose to change the car’s make-up quite significantly, bringing out electric versions (known as the i5 models) alongside the more conventional hybrid- and petrol-powered variants. Perhaps unsurprisingly, no diesel models are being sold in the UK. Anyway, the i5 is the big news, and because it’s a BMW, there’s more than one version of it. A lot more. Although it was launched in four-door saloon guise and with a choice of power outputs and motor layouts, there are estate versions on the way too for those who need a bit more space. Both designs look pretty smart — the ‘Touring’ estate is my favourite, but the Saloon seen here looks good too — and comes with some clever new features. Take the Iconic Glow lighting around the front grille, which gives the car a bit more presence whether it’s light or dark outside. But the interior is even more spectacular, with a massive bank of two screens that control pretty much everything in the car. One half of the housing is home to the instrument display, which

is hugely configurable and allows you to see exactly the information you want right in front of you. But the focus is on the other half of the display, which is a massive touchscreen that commands pretty much everything in the car. If you want to adjust the temperature, use the screen. If you want to make a phone call, use the screen. And while that isn’t always helpful — adjusting the temperature is a task best suited to buttons — the huge array of functions available from that screen has its advantages. Chief among these is the ability to use the car as a kind of massive PlayStation. Using your phone as a controller, you can play video games in the car with up to four players competing in cartoonish games including one suspiciously similar to Mario Kart. The system isn’t perfect, and obviously you can only use it when the car is stationary, but it’s a good way of whiling away a charging stop. Not that you’ll need to stop all that often in the i5. There are two different versions available — the eDrive40 and the M60 xDrive — but both come with the same 81.2kWh battery. Now, that might not mean much in itself, but with the 335bhp electric motor that drives the eDrive40’s rear wheels, it means you can do up to 356 miles on a single charge — at least officially. In the real world, you’re probably talking 250 or so, and with the ability to charge at 205kW, you can fill it from 10% to 80% in half an hour. In short, you shouldn’t need to charge too often, and when you do, it shouldn’t take too long. Unfortunately, the M60 xDrive version won’t go quite as far on a charge, but then it does have

much more power than the eDrive40. An extra electric motor on the front wheels ups the power to 592bhp and gives the car all-wheel drive, which allows it to make more use of that power, no matter how much Cestrian rain may fall. On that one day in July when it doesn’t fall, though, that power will allow the i5 to get from 0-62mph in less than four seconds. If that sounds fast, it’s nothing compared with how it feels. The electric motors are relentless, and because there’s only one gear, the car never lets up at all. Put your foot down and suddenly you’re doing three-figure speeds. It’s almost instant. Combine that with powerful brakes – particularly in the M60 xDrive – and a brilliantly designed chassis that allows this massive saloon to handle like a sports car, and you’ve got something absolutely fantastic to drive. But it’s comfortable, too. Admittedly, it doesn’t ride as well as the larger i7, which is frankly miraculous in the way it soaks up imperfections in the road, but it feels supple and controlled, which is about as

80

much as you can hope for from something that handles so well. Especially given the state of our roads. And if you aren’t particularly enamoured with the idea of an electric car, the news gets even better. BMW is also offering a single 2.0-litre petrol-powered version called the 520i, and there’s a choice of two plug-in hybrids, which provide a kind of halfway house between the 520i and the i5 models. It’s one of those two cars that would be my choice, with the staggering 550e xDrive providing all-wheel drive, a real-world electric range of about 40 or so miles and a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine to provide power when that range is exhausted. Use the engine and the electric motor together, and you get 482bhp, and the whole car feels lighter on its feet than the i5. The fact of the matter is, though, whether you choose the i5 or one of the petrol-engined cars, the new 5 Series remains a force to be reckoned with. In fact, I’ll stick my neck out and say it manoeuvres easily to the top of its class. And like the humble agapanthus in my back garden, it’s pretty much guaranteed to stay there year after year after year.

T he Sec Se c ret to a Restfu estfull Night’s S leep Getting a good night’s sleep is essential for mental and physical wellbeing. From relaxing treatments to new bedding, here are our best sleep cures.

M

ark Tremlett, Founder of Naturalmat, the award-winning maker of natural and organic mattresses and beds comments on the ways you can improve your sleep “It’s estimated that we spend as much as onethird of our lifetime sleeping, or at least trying to, so it is important that your sleep environment is as comfortable as possible and working hard for you. Firstly, consider the age and quality of your mattress. It is recommended that we should change mattress every eight years, especially if it’s no longer comfortable or has lost shape, but the choices can be a little overwhelming when choosing a new one. We think that there is no better way to know what is best for you than spending a good amount of time trying a mattress, which is why we have designed and built our biggest ever Sleep Zone in our Knutsford showroom. We created our Sleep Zone to allow customers to physically test mattresses in a specially designed space that is conducive to optimal sleep, including dim lighting, our bespoke aroma and a calming soundtrack of the migrating bird on the banks of the River Exe next to our workshop. Secondly, I can’t stress enough the significance of investing in a mattress that is made from natural, breathable fibres. These materials respond better to the body’s natural temperature changes, ensuring a cooler sleep environment and longer-lasting comfort compared to synthetic alternatives. Additionally, consider mattress toppers made from natural fibres as a budget-friendly option to enhance comfort.

84

Regarding sleep hygiene and routine, we recommend avoiding overstimulating activities like watching TV, working out or working in bed up to one hour before sleep to strengthen your brain’s association between the bedroom and sleep. If you are thinking about redecorating, then choosing a soothing colour palette for the bedroom and a design that is clutter-free, along with natural-fibre bedding such as linen or hemp, which aids in temperature regulation during sleep, all help to create a serene sleep enhancing ambiance. Natural bedding is incredibly effective at regulating your body temperature whilst sleeping. Natural fibres, like organic wool, linen and hemp far surpass synthetics in breathability and comfort. While weighted blankets and heated options offer temporary relaxation, natural materials support your body’s innate thermoregulation, which is crucial for deep sleep. To optimise sleep quality and improve overall wellbeing, prioritise natural, breathable materials in your mattresses, bedding, and bedroom decor. By focusing on environmental sustainability and personal comfort, you are guaranteed a rejuvenating sleep experience.” naturalmat.co.uk

5 EASY WAYS A RUG CAN REVAMP YOUR OUTDOOR SPACE Outdoor rugs are trending in 2024, according to online homeware specialist, The Rug Seller which offers one of the widest selections of outdoor rugs in the UK

“I

n the past three years outdoor rugs have become something of a must have garden accessory and the popularity shows no signs of waning, says Daniel Prendergast, design expert at The Rug Seller. “As such there is more choice in colours, pattern, size and shape than ever. We’ve seen trends mirror that of interiors – best-selling geometrics have started to make way for bright pops of colour and florals, whereas textured and sustainable materials are also growing in popularity. “Despite the wet spring weather so far this year, we have seen a surge in outdoor rug sales as people also start to understand the versatility of using them with their inside spaces – their durability make them perfect for high traffic areas such as conservatories, kitchens and dining rooms. They are also really easy to transition between indoor and outdoor spaces as the weather allows. If you’re looking for your design inspiration for your garden or balcony, here are five easy ways an outdoor rug could give your outdoor space a revamp:

Add a splash of colour and a pop of pattern “Whether you have a full-on outerior design scheme, want to echo the colours found in your planting scheme or are simply

looking to add a splash of colour to an outdoor space, an outdoor rug is the perfect accessory to get experimental with colour. The beauty of an outdoor rug is that you can go bigger and bolder with your design choice, than perhaps you might do inside the home, or you can use them to extend the patterns and colours from inside to out. Don’t be afraid to play with colour and pattern – the light and openness of the space will be able to withstand more colour than you may usually be comfortable with. Mediterranean inspired blue and whites can make a real design impact, whereas florals, pops of red and sunshine yellow are all extremely popular.

Soften a small patio, courtyard or balcony “An outdoor rug is the perfect accessory for a small courtyard garden, patio or balcony. If you are very limited on space then opt for a runner which will give you that splash of colour and pattern without taking up too much space. Utilising an outdoor rug in this way will help to soften what can be quite harsh outdoor areas, offering tactility and breaking up a concrete colour palette. Then can also work really well if you live in a rented property as will allow you to add a vibrant finishing touch without making any permanent changes. Outdoor rugs are weather resistant and easy to clean so they can be left on a balcony

86

Homes and Interiors

all year round if you are limited on space. Or they can be rolled up and stored away until the summer months.

Bridge the gap between indoor and outdoor spaces “Using an outdoor rug in an indoor setting can help to bridge the gap between the inside and outside. Use them to create a free-flowing design scheme that will extend your living space considerably. Because they are durable and easy to clean, they are ideal for high traffic areas and can also add a homely finishing touch to a conservatory or sun room. An outdoor rug or runner placed near your patio doors will also help to stop dirt being walked into your house.

Play with texture “Don’t overlook the role that texture can play in elevating your outerior design. Look for outdoor rugs with 3D patterns and textured designs to provide an additional dimension to your outdoor area. Textured rugs feel tactile and homely underfoot and can really add a layer of luxe to an outdoor seating area.

Think outside the box Don’t forget a rug doesn’t just have to be a rectangle! Round and irregular shaped rugs are hugely popular this year and will add interest and a new dimension to an outdoor space. They work especially well in smaller gardens and patios – helping to zone a seating area without taking up too much space. therugseller.co.uk

M eet t he Desii gne Des gnerr s Projects that won BIID Interior Design Awards in the North & North West region

N

ow open for 2024, the BIID Interior Design Awards returns with its new North & North West regional award and the search is on for this year’s winners. The awards celebrate exceptional design projects across the UK, with both residential and commercial projects previously receiving the accolade for the North and North West region. Yorkshire-based Design by Jo Bee received the inaugural regional award for its beautiful Howgill Lodge project in the Yorkshire Dales, followed by The Artistry House Interiors in 2023 for its impressive commercial project at Manchester Museum.

COUNTRYSIDE COLOUR

Howgill Lodge is a picturesque campsite set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, on the Duke of Devonshire’s Chatsworth Estate. The site was acquired during lockdown and the owners were eager to get it ready for when the gates could re-open. Four tired and old-fashioned lodges needed

88

to be transformed into colourful country retreats with a real wow factor. Designer Jo Duerden took on the challenge of totally refurbishing these characterful lodges to transform them into highly desirable colourful country retreats. The project won due to its clever use of space and the impactful and imaginative use of colour and textures. The addition of the wood-burning stoves and clever layering of textiles has helped to create an ambience of relaxation and calm. The judges commented that it was a ‘fun and inventive project’ with clever use of panelling, savvy sourcing, repurposed furniture and upcycling to successfully meet the brief. Jo Duerden, founder of Design by Jo Bee comments; “Winning the North Region BIID award feels like a huge achievement amongst a year of great success for my Interior Design business, Design by Jo Bee. I have worked alone until recently when I took on a design apprentice. Having two young children, I wasn’t sure how much was possible with juggling family life and running a business, but it just goes to show how much you can accomplish if you really set your heart on something and I look forward to the exciting future ahead. Having accolades to back up your work and portfolio is a great way to instil confidence in your future clients and I am super proud to have won such a prestigious award at the inaugural BIID awards.”

Homes and Interiors

URBAN MASTERPIECE

As part of Manchester Museum’s ambitious ‘Hello Future’ project, its team and Wilson Mason Architects engaged The Artistry House Interiors to deliver a selection of crucial non-gallery spaces, with a multitude of purposes, including retail and learning spaces. The objective for the project was to create a visual through-line across these spaces, showcasing high impact objects, whilst being mindful of the functionality, visitor experience and flow. This impressive design successfully creates a warm, inclusive environment that perfectly reflects the aim of reimagining the museum for the people of Manchester. It encourages frequent visits and longer stays, fostering community engagement and learning, and the key spaces are designed with multi-sensory experiences and accessibility in mind. “It feels incredible to have won this award. We poured so much passion and energy into the Manchester Museum project, it was always such an honour to have the opportunity to work on a historical building of this magnitude, sharing this with a larger audience and having our achievements validated by the BIID community was really important to us” comments Rose Peploe, Interior & Spatial Designer at The Artistry House. The BIID judges said that the design for the rejuvenated Manchester Museum delivers a flexible and coherent space which shows careful attention to detail, reflecting ‘a focus

on sustainability, inclusivity and imagination’. Noteworthy features include the inviting book matched reception desk and adaptable, ethically sourced furniture. They summarised that this is a remarkable public space, designed with high-quality accessibility and versatility, which is appealing for all ages. “I realised that our Manchester Museum project seemed quite unique and felt this could be an opportunity to share our work with a larger audience. The idea of having our project viewed on a national platform was really exciting! Being a relatively new design practice based in the North West we are always looking for opportunities to expand our network.” explains Rose. biid.org.uk

H

oliday season is upon us and while there is lots of fun to be had jumping on a plane and jetting off to a different country, there’s also no place like home – especially a holiday home when we get the best of the British weather. And when we say home, we also mean the North West and all the gems it has to offer for a perfect staycation. The North West offers one of the most versatile landscapes in the country. From the Cheshire countryside to the Lake District, Lancashire coast and the Pennines – we’re simply spoilt for choice. This is why Pure Leisure Group, leading independent holiday park operator and winner of the coveted Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Award at the Red Rose Awards 2024, think it’s time to get your 2024 staycation booked…

Fall in love with the Lakes If you live in Cheshire and you haven’t ventured out to the Lake District before then it’s about time you do. From Bowness-onWindermere to Kendal and Coniston, the area is full of vast valleys, picturesque villages and historic sites, not to mention some amazing independent eateries. Cumbria alone has three National Landscapes; Arnside and Silverdale as well as Solway Coast. Previously known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, these stunning National Landscapes as they are now known are each recognised for their outstanding beauty, wildlife and history. Peak in the Pennines So similar, yet oh so different from the Lakes, the Pennines boasts moors, dales, tumbling

rivers and a whole host of stunning villages characterised by stone buildings, independent shops and good olde pub grub. Perfect for keen walkers and families alike, the area is brimming with heritage just waiting to be soaked up. From museums and railways to woodlands, forests and garden centres – you won’t be stuck for something to do during your trip! Catch your breath on the coast As ‘Visit Lancashire’ say themselves, the area offers ‘a coast for all seasons’ and it’s true. From the hustle and bustle of Blackpool promenade, to the stunning shoreline of Cockerham Sands and beyond, there really is a beach for every kind of person, every kind of mood and every kind of weather. Pack your book, your (walking) boots and your buckets and spades and see where the wind blows you when you’re there! Call it your own The beauty of all these places is that if you end up falling in love with the area – which we expect you may well do – then owning a lodge in these areas is a very real option with Pure Leisure Group having lodges available to buy at its award-winning holiday parks across the North West, including Cockerham Sands, Lowther Holiday Park, Coniston View, Fell End, Lakesway Holiday Home and Lodge Park and its flagship South Lakeland Leisure Village. Q&A

with

MARA RYPACEK MILLER, MANAGING DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER, INDUSTVILLE

How would you describe yourself ? I’m the Managing Director and Founder of Industville, a brand that has quickly become a beacon for those who value uniqueness in lighting and furniture, attracting attention from esteemed interior designers, prestigious hospitality brands, and discerning domestic customers alike. I’m someone who thrives on innovation, deeply valuing the elegance and simplicity in designs and solutions. My approach is all about crafting powerful, straightforward answers to complex challenges, with a constant aim to provide an exceptional service for our clients. Who are your greatest influences? I am frequently influenced and inspired by smart, simple design solutions. Without a doubt, one of my greatest sources of inspiration comes from the story of Ole Kirk Christiansen, the inventor of Lego. His persistence and search for simple but impactful solutions really match my design approach. We design products that encourage customers to experiment with various combinations, colours, and arrangements, allowing them to craft unique lighting solutions that perfectly fit their space and reflect their personal style. The parallel between Christiansen’s determination to create a simple, high-quality product and our commitment to offering adaptable, imaginative design solutions underscores my belief in the power of innovation driven by a clear vision and unwavering perseverance. What have been some of your best experiences at work? For me, the great experience is the whole design journey, from the initial spark of an idea for a lighting or furniture product that’s then developed with our skilled craftsmen, through to the adjustments and rigorous quality checking processes,

ensuring everything is sustainably made. Launching the product and seeing it add its unique touch to our customers interiors, whether it’s in beautiful residential houses or establishments such as Superdry, Origin City restaurant, Caffè Nero, David Lloyd, or a National Trust cafés, is incredibly fulfilling. The process of working with the client and tailoring our solution to meet their needs and fit their brand essence is what makes this work so rewarding. And then, there’s the experience of walking down the street and noticing our products in those venues, or spotting them on TV, like in the recent series of Traitors on BBC, or in the latest Caffè Nero x Compare the Market ads, with our lights playing a key feature. It’s equally thrilling to see our designs in the Paddington movies or on Masterchef. Traditional vs contemporary style? For me personally, it’s genuinely a mix of both traditional and contemporary styles. There’s something inherently captivating about the authenticity, nostalgia, and richness that traditional style brings to the table. It’s like each piece has its own story, a unique past that adds depth and character to any space. But then, the contemporary style swings in with its polished, sleek, clean look that screams modern sophistication. It’s this combination, this interplay between the old and the new, that really lights my fire. Mixing both together, especially by incorporating traditionally made products like handcrafted lighting, made from the finest materials, is my secret to achieving that premium, bespoke look. It’s not just about designing spaces; it’s about weaving stories and emotions, blending the warmth and charm of the past with the clarity and simplicity of the present to create something unforgettable. industville.co.uk
