My life ... EMILY STREET, MIDWIFE PRACTICE MANAGER AT THE PORTLAND MANCHESTER HCA How would you describe yourself ? I’m a calm introverted Mother of 4+ 2, Midwife, business-owning, weekend hippy. Where is home? And work? Home is Mobberley. I’m lucky enough to be within walking distance of Barnshaw Smithy. Mobberley Brook runs through my garden which backs onto Waugh Brow Farm. The cows occasionally visit my garden which is always comedy chaos. The Portland Manchester Clinic is based within The Birth Company in Alderley Edge. Providing obstetric care, facilitating delivery at The Portland London, as well as gynaecology services, fertility care and menopause specialists. What would you do to improve the area you live in? I would make the Mobberley bus reliable, more frequent, and free for the school run. What did you want to be when you were younger? I can’t remember not wanting to be a Midwife. I think I was around 9 when my brother was born and my Mum didn’t get a look in. I can’t imagine being anything else. I love my job and seeing the difference I can help to make in a family’s experience never gets old. Name a few of your favourite places to be... My partner and I stayed in Binibeca Vel in Menorca 2 years ago and we go back at every opportunity. We stay longer every time and dream of spending our time 50/50 in the UK/Menorca when we retire/win the lottery. Most of my family now live in Beaumaris in Anglesey which although so close is just another world.

I love my job and seeing the difference I can help to make in a family’s experience never gets old

I’m happiest near the sea at sunset. We are spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs in Mobberley but you can’t beat The Bulls Head’s sticky toffee pudding. What or who inspires you? At The Portland I’m surrounded by strong female role models. It’s inspiring and exciting to work with them. But what inspires me most is mothers. Every day, working invisibly, and often thanklessly to keep their families smiling and functioning. What was the last gift you gave someone? The Lonely Planet guide to Argentina. My partner is from Rosario and we are planning a big trip for 2025. He doesn’t actually need the guide book so it’s really for me! Tell us a secret/fun fact? I ate my placenta (in capsule form) and highly recommend it to all new mums. Who or what would you place in room 101? Bullies. Your Mastermind subject? 7 seater family cars! What’s been your biggest life lesson? Don’t settle, dream big. thebirthcompany.co.uk

John & Lisa’s Food Tri Tr ip Dow Do wn Unde nderr ITV’s hugely popular culinary couple John Torode MBE and Lisa Faulkner embark on a journey of a lifetime where the pair travel 500 miles along the beautiful coast of Western Australia in search of the very best local food and wine for a brand new five week series

P

roud Australian chef John Torode travelled with his wife, actress and home cook, Lisa Faulkner along a gourmet route of discovery as he returned to the place where his passion for food and cooking began. They meet chefs, winemakers, food fanatics and entrepreneurs creating incredible produce in new ways, from black truffles to abalone, and experience some of Western Australia’s most beautiful landscapes.

What can viewers expect from this brand new series?

John: Australia is so massive that it’s really hard to see all of it. I’ve been lucky to see quite a bit during my life but where we got to go to for this series I had never been to before so it was a dream come true! We went south from Perth along the Margaret River coastline as well as more inland and got to see everything from the amazing seasides, to the huge ancient Southern forests where the Karri trees were the biggest I’ve ever seen in my life. Lisa: It’s such a lovely series and it was so great to get to go away together to a place that we didn’t know much about. And I have to say, I fell in love with Western Australia and that side of the country. Australia is beautiful and just stunning. This was just a really wonderful trip and I was so surprised at how varied one area can be. The beaches, countryside, forests, wildlife - everything you could imagine within just a couple of hours of each other. It was incredible!

20

John: Such a beautiful place and the towns were wonderful, and wherever you are in Australia, you can always get a good cup of coffee too!

What were you most excited about?

L: It was a road trip! We could have shared the driving...but I must say that I prefer John to drive. I like to sit and take in the scenery! I remember just looking out of the window saying ‘Oh My God’ a lot at all the wonders we were witnessing. To explore so many new things together during this trip was what made it so exciting. We just got to see so many beautiful places.

Lisa: To explore so many new things together during this trip was what made it so exciting. We just got to see so many beautiful places

J: Oh yeah, it was our first time going to Western Australia together and we were very excited. We really loved it and when we went down to Margaret River, we honestly felt that this was the sort of place you could live. There was one day where we got up, had a walk along the beach first thing in the morning - and we didn’t realise the cameras were on us - and we were just chatting away having such a nice time. The next thing you know we were going to an amazing restaurant by Busselton Jetty and then went to a Beerfarm, we were just thinking ‘this is work! This is our job!’ It was fantastic, very humbling. We just hope people love going on this journey with us as much as we enjoyed it all.

others to jump on a plane and discover Western Australia like we did as well. L: I’m sure it will. For us, it was just great to taste and discover so much together as we went along and to not do all the cooking for a change!

Were there any surprises during the series or things that you discovered about each other or the different locations? L: I don’t think there was anything new that I discovered about John on this trip, I know my husband pretty well! But it was one of those trips where every time I stepped out of the car, I did just look around and go ‘wow’. We take so much for granted and we are very lucky in our jobs, it really was a trip of a lifetime to see all these places during

You both have busy schedules so when working projects come up that require being together it must be pretty special...

J: Yes! Whenever we do television together we are just being us. How we are on Weekend Kitchen for example is just how we are. For this series we got to wear GoPro cameras when we were driving together and were told that that was some of the best material because it was just so natural - with the odd funny remark or a grab of some chocolate from the glovebox! It was just great fun and I hope it inspires

21

this series. I came back waxing lyrical about Margaret River - it was just amazing, it really was. J: We had always wanted to visit Western Australia. The production team put together a plan for us to visit locations via an electric car, meaning we had to make sure we went via places to charge the car too. But by doing that it had its perks because there were some breathing spaces where we discovered or stumbled across things along the way that we might not have seen. I remember getting up early one morning at the Karri Valley Resort in Pemberton and I just watched all these kangaroos come out - there must have been around 150 of them - so I told the team and the next morning all of us were there to watch and capture it. There were gorgeous kookaburras just sitting on the benches and all these kangaroos... It was really special. We also went to a place called Glenarty Road which is a farm and a restaurant and we didn’t expect anything like it. Ben and Sasha who owned it were glorious. We sat and ate their food and it was delicious and has been named one of the best restaurants in Australia at the Gourmet Traveller Awards. And we stumbled on that, so when that kind of thing happened we just went with it!

What was your highlight of the trip?

J: Pretty much everything I’ve mentioned! But also the history of the place is quite amazing too and we touch on that in the series. For example, the Busselton Jetty is the longest wood-piled jetty in the southern hemisphere and you learn the reason in our series.

22

I really loved the guys at Glenarty Road. They were farmers but they got up every single morning and went surfing, then came back to look after the sheep and avocado trees; they grew pretty much everything. That was one of my highlights being with them and just sitting there, listening to Ben and Sasha who had found this amazing world that made them really happy. Seeing the stingrays at Hamelin Bay swimming by so closely to your feet was pretty cool too. L: Yes, it really was. To see those stingrays that close and the dolphins at Rockingham jumping literally a metre away from you was incredible! Paddling on the shores and being on the boat seeing all the animals was amazing, and like John said, we also met so many fantastic people and pretty much ate our way through Western Australia!

John: It was just great fun and I hope it inspires others to jump on a plane and discover Western Australia like we did as well

We did come away thinking ‘I want to live here’... it was just so cool. I mean if Australia wasn’t so far away we’d be there all the time. But what was lovely about all of the areas we visited was that you could be in the Southern forest one moment and then within forty minutes, you could be by the sea on a white sandy beach. It was awesome, really amazing!

You are both highly skilled in the kitchen already, but do you still find that you are learning during adventures like this?

J: I wouldn’t still be doing all this if I wasn’t constantly learning or seeing or understanding new things. My father always said to me, ‘if you go through a day where you haven’t learnt something, you’ve wasted a day’. I think that’s so true - you learn things, you appreciate things. One of the things you often see in Australia is this enormous blue sky, and at night time this enormous black sky with huge amounts of stars, and it makes you sit back and wonder how amazing nature truly is.

hand luggage. They’re amazing! The other key thing is a laundry bag so you can put your dirty stuff away from the clean stuff. L: John was actually quite jealous of my ‘packing cubes’! I had these packing cubes of shorts and tops, and things for when we were not filming and John really wished he had them for the different outfits he had to take too. They are amazing and you can really squish them down into your suitcase. Also, if I can, I try to pack a few days before to make sure I’ve got everything sorted. I lay it out on the bed a nd then go through it and cull probably half of it! There’s also this amazing lady that I follow on Instagram called @ChloeLovesToShop and she does this thing where she takes photos of outfits so she knows what she’s going to pack and knows what she’ll wear and what goes with what. It sounds a bit mad but it’s absolutely brilliant. You can just look back through your phone at the outfits you’ve packed and think ‘I’ll wear that today’. It’s so helpful!

When can people see you both back cooking together on screen?

J: We are on ITV a lot in 2024 actually! After this series, we might have something across Springtime and the new series of John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen will be back for 11 weeks this autumn. L: We are so happy to be doing more Weekend Kitchen. We are filming at the moment and it’s set to be another brilliant batch of episodes! John & Lisa’s Food Trip Down Under is out now on ITV1 and available on ITVX.

What are your top travel essentials?

J: A very good and solid suitcase! I also bought myself this antique folding coat hanger because Lisa knows that I like to have a nicely ironed shirt. I iron everything and take my fold up coat hangers - you literally fold them down and they can sit in your

As the Chester-based lifestyle brand celebrates its first 12 months in business, we speak to Founder Jonathan Crompton Jonathan, JC London celebrates its first birthday next month – talk us through your motivation for setting up the business. I’ve always dreamed of starting my own brand. Fashion has always fascinated me because of its ability to empower and uplift. Moving from London to Chester was the catalyst that finally pushed me to take the leap. Originally intending to create men’s joggers, I unexpectedly found myself drawn to women’s activewear. You have a background in digital marketing at one of the world’s largest tech firms, how has this experience helped in running your own business? With 24 years of hands-on experience in the digital world, I have been able to save a significant amount of money by not relying on third-party agencies. However, despite my expertise, there are still challenges when it comes to managing my time.

Currently, I am focused on finding ways to set up marketing campaigns more quickly, leveraging my background in the field. What designers and business owners have inspired you and your business model? I am absolutely inspired by how the talented duo, the Represent brothers, have brilliantly established their unique brand and exceptional style. As for designers, Tom Ford and Virgil Abloh are worth mentioning. You can’t miss the incredible online presence and ground-breaking leadership Abloh displayed as the director of Louis Vuitton and the founder of Off-White. Talk us through your creative process. Drawing inspiration from observing people’s fashion choices while enjoying a coffee outdoors, I bring my creative ideas to life. My design process involves sketching freely and meticulously searching for the

perfect fabrics. I also carefully consider the fit and placement of seams, ensuring impeccable craftsmanship. JC London started by selling predominantly active wear and has since evolved into selling lifestyle products. What motivated the change? Leggings are incredibly versatile and can be worn in a variety of ways. They work for everyday wear, can be dressed up with heels and a jacket for a night out, and are perfect for comfortable travel. It’s only natural evolution to move into the lifestyle space. As you enter your second year of business, what is next for JC London? Expect more stylish leggings and active tops with brand new designs. Keep an eye out for our upcoming launch of joggers, sweaters, hoodies, and even swimwear! jclondon.shop 27

Myth Busting forr Bus fo Busiiness The Cheshire Magazine talked to HM3 Legal about common business myths

I

n this complex world, we’re bombarded by myths, opinions, misinformation and advice from all angles meaning it can be tricky to separate real drivers from imagined threats. Navigating through the labyrinth, here’s our shortlist.

Myth 1: To fail = failure

Richard: At the start of my career, I believed that to fail meant failure. Not today. JK Rowling and the inventor Dyson are also known to have ‘failed’ before their ideas were accepted. Mistakes can foster learning and help refine strategies. I’ve learned that smart leaders learn to dissect failures, analyse so-called missteps, and transform them into stepping stones to move forward.

Myth 2: Immediate rewards

Justine: When it comes to reaping rewards, the tortoise beats the hare. Patience and passion bring success. Apple and other global companies began in a shed or on the kitchen table. I have seen this ‘X-factor’ in some business owners – that extra drive to succeed from humble beginnings. But beware of burnout, the enemy of brilliance. Adobe’s ‘Kickbox’ project allowed staff to explore passion projects, nurturing life outside work. Embrace work-life balance to enhance well-being and productivity.

Myth 3: Lone wolves

Richard: A romantic notion, but really, which business is wholly built by one person? Collaborations leverage strengths and mitigate weaknesses. Consider Microsoft and Adobe. The partnership saw the integration of Adobe’s PDF service into Microsoft 365, today’s tech behemoth. When I dine out in Liverpool I’m often struck by the similarities of running a business with a well-managed restaurant. The chef, managers, wait staff - everyone plays their part in making sure diners are satisfied and not only return, but recommend their friends. At HM3 Legal our lawyers work as a team, sharing strengths and honing their skills to deliver the ‘wow’ service including a no chase pledge clients expect beyond legal advice.

Myth 4: Overnight success

Richard: I believe this is an illusion. Behind such triumphs are often savvy entrepreneurs who have paved their path with foresight and calculated risk-taking. Airbnb wasn’t a meteoric ascent but years of strategic pivots and persistence that built this powerhouse. It is possible to achieve ‘overnight’ success online, but this is neither the norm nor usually long-lasting. Typically, success is about persistence and not fleeting magic.

Myth 5: Disrupt or die

Justine: Disruptive innovation commands attention. Revolution has impact. Yet so does smaller-scale incremental innovation. What to focus on? Listen to your customers. What are they asking for or struggling with? The iPhone is a great example of catering to evolving needs. While it can be tempting to make sweeping changes, quite often tweaking has provided the solution. And when faced with new information we ask ourselves: myth or reality? Does this sound like the kind of legal team you would like to work with? Contact: Richard Burnett M: 07983 637149 E: rhb@law.uk.com

ASK THE EXPERT DR ED ROBINSON,

DR ED ROBINSON AESTHETICS I N A LT R I N C H A M Cheshire-based Dr Ed Robinson has used his NHS expertise and creative touch to establish a sought-after approach to aesthetics. His technical skill at accentuating natural features, combined with care for his clients, has put Dr Ed in high demand for his ability to boost people’s confidence and wellbeing through non-surgical approaches. He is a finalist in the Rising Star category at the prestigious Aesthetics Awards 2024. His clinic, ‘Dr Ed Robinson Aesthetics’ in Altrincham, offers certified anti-ageing treatments, feature enhancement, skin-boosting injectables and a full range of evidence-based procedures. At the core of Dr Ed’s work is a passion to improve people’s confidence by accentuating natural features. His approach has attracted a strong client base featuring high profile celebrities who want to maintain their image with a natural look. Here, Dr Ed shares how ‘polynucleotides’- the latest buzzword in aestheticscan be used to enhance natural features. What are polynucleotides? Polynucleotides, such as Ameela, are naturally extracted DNA fragments from salmon which act as protein messengers to your skin cells to produce more anti-inflammatory proteins to optimise skin and hair quality. They have been used to help burns and wound healing for many years but have become popular in aesthetics to create a subtle, rejuvenated look. They ‘turn back the clock’ on skin cells, supercharging them to make collagen and elastin - 2 proteins responsible for skin tightness and plumpness - without changing the shape of your face. What makes this different to other injectables, and will I look ‘fake’? Polynucleotides are a great alternative to dermal fillers and skin boosters that are made from hyaluronic acid

gels, which, particularly if administered by a bad injector, can lead to swelling, migration, and more serious complications. Polynucleotides have a much better safety profile with no risk of migration and achieve a ‘natural look’ with improved skin quality. What treatments can be done with polynucleotides? Polynucleotides are a very versatile treatment. They can be used for a number of procedures: • By supercharging skin cells to produce collagen and elastin, polynucleotides are great for anti-ageing and treating lines and wrinkles. • Polynucleotide treatments can be used for stretch marks and scar healing, including surgical and acne scarring. • They encourage scalp hair growth by calming in inflammation and nourishing your hair follicles. Results usually last from 6-12 months and take about 4-6 weeks to get the full effect. I have a signature technique combining polynucleotides with other treatments such as PRP and hyaluronic acid skin boosters to create faster and longer-lasting results. How do I choose a trusted practitioner for this treatment? In a country where the aesthetics industry is unregulated, it is important to do your research and choose the right practitioner. The ‘Save Face’ register provides a list of reputable practitioners who have undergone extra checks to ensure they are practising at a high clinical standard. dredrobinson.co.uk

Looking from the Inside Out: My experience of Brainspotting with Zoe Eckersley Brainspotting is a natural and powerful alternative therapy that uses ‘spots’ in a person’s visual field to help identify, process and release core neurophysiological sources of emotional or physical pain, or challenging symptoms. It does so by accessing the subcortical part of the brain responsible for emotions, motion, consciousness, and learning. My Brainspotting sessions happen in the treatment room at CPASE Health Club with Zoe Eckersley, who trained with David Grand, the founder of this technique. Zoe owns Balancing Minds and is an accredited psychotherapist, children’s counsellor and hypnotherapist. Unlike traditional ‘top down’ talking therapies which focus on the conscious mind, Brainspotting is a somatic ‘bottom up’ therapy which focuses on the brain and body connection, enabling it to reset. A key benefit of Brainspotting, over more traditional therapies, is that you don’t need to ‘relive’ traumatic events or incidents to release them from your body. Prior to the session, Zoe recommended downloading biolateral music, which I listened to whilst relaxing into some breath work. Once you are settled into a mindful state, you will identify an issue you’d like to work on. You’ll then observe a place in your body where you feel the most distress and rank it on a scale of one to ten. Using a pointer stick, Zoe identified “brain spots” – points where my eyes naturally focused during moments of heightened discomfort. Together, we pinpointed

the areas where I felt “stuck” and needed to process. Zoe employs the “Outside Window” and “Inside Window” approach. Her being the outside window, observing my gaze and recommending appropriate access points where she sees a change or subtle movement in my face or body. As this therapy is self-led, I am the inside window, giving me the opportunity to identify spots myself and really tune into what’s happening in my body. Throughout the session, Zoe supported me in zoning in on the emotions arising and spent time processing these feelings. As the session went on, there was a noticeable reduction in my stress levels. I felt some sort of shift. Surprisingly, crucial thoughts, particularly regarding work and personal decisions, surfaced during the session. The Brainspotting allowed me to laser in on the right path to choose, and highlighted some areas I hadn’t realised were bothering me. The relief I felt when those decisions were made was palpable.

Post-session, tiredness is common, and processing may continue for several days. Brainspotting can help in many different areas of your life and is suitable for people of all ages including children. As it is self-led, your brain directs your mind, and Zoe’s expertise guides you to the area you need it most. It has been proven to help in fields such as sports and personal performance, and to increase creativity and motivation. It boosts selfesteem, can relieve anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, and can even help if you have relationship worries. These benefits extend beyond the sessions and include improved sleep, increased energy, stress reduction, pain reduction, and reduced anxiety, making way for a calmer and more focused positive outlook. My personal experience with Brainspotting left me with a clear mind and an immediate plan of action for positive life changes. With Zoe’s guidance, I will definitely continue to use this method going forward and look forward to my next session. Zoe offers sessions from CPASE and can be contacted at info@balancingminds.co.uk

Harm armo onious Beginn eginniings: Nav Na vigatin igating g Ne New w Love and Bl Blende ended d Famil miliies WORDS: Alex Mellor-Brook, Dating and Relationship Coach, Co-founder at Select Personal Introductions

A

new relationship is always exciting, tumultuous, confusing, and hard to navigate. But when that new relationship brings with it other established connections, the challenges, and rewards, can be compounded.

Love and Family One great fact about our world is that we don’t expect anybody to deny themselves love any more. The days of elderly spinsters and sad, lonely widowers are long gone. Instead, we understand that blended families are an important part of life, for everyone concerned. They allow individuals from different backgrounds and previous relationships to form new, complex, and uniquely diverse family units. Just the language used to describe them: blended families, bonus families, complex families, instafamilies and stepfamilies shows how varied this new form of family structure can be.

Through divorce, death, adoption … a myriad of ways, new families form and draw on acceptance, inclusivity and humour to develop their own traditions and patterns of behaviour.

Learning to Love Any couple may find it hard to love and trust, but bringing children and the wider family into that new relationship can be truly demanding. It requires effective communication from day one, being honest about wants and needs, being willing to listen to honesty from others and creating realistic expectations about how new relationships can work. Because it’s not just the couple, but their children and extended family who need to do this work too, it can be a long process, but it’s always worth it.

Children First Children may feel fearful or suspicious of new adults in their lives, or that they are being asked to betray their relationship with their other parent(s). Let them set the pace in how you interact - especially if they are teenagers who can take a long time to warm up. Think of yourself as a grown-up babysitter rather than a new parent, able to enforce already agreed rules but lacking the final say about what should happen for children in a new family. It’s hard not to favour your biological children, just because you know them

better and have that authority but try to ensure you understand how hard it is for children to feel any power in the new family. Lots of conversations will help, and they don’t have to be heavy - discuss everything from favourite dinners to silliest moments, family traditions to your own childhood experiences. It all helps build a healthy relationship and shows step-siblings how to create solid relationships when you’re not around.

Embrace the Fear of Change When we start a new relationship it all seems fragile, and we feel exposed. This feeling is magnified when we’re opening ourselves to a new family, not just a new lover. However, we can learn to embrace this process. First, call on your support network of friends and family members so that you can talk about what you’re experiencing. Second, recognise you might need some professional help such as counselling or coaching to have a safe space to process your own feelings about blending families. Third, make time so that you and your new partner have scope to explore your new relationship without wider family pressure. selectservices.co.uk

Why Visit Cervinia?

One of the Largest and Highest Ski Areas in the Alps: The high-altitude ski area has over 150km of pistes to explore with most pistes lying well above 3,000m. The slopes are high, open and mostly very sunny thanks to their westerly orientation. Cervinia not only guarantees fantastic snow coverage, but also gives access to the Swiss resort of Zermatt and the Plateau, which can be reached from Cervinia in just over 30 minutes using the ski lifts and slopes. Early Start, Late Finish: Due to the Plateau Rosà Glacier, Cervinia offers one of Europe’s longest seasons with skiing possible for around nine months of the year. Visitors can ski from mid-October all the way through to the beginning of May. Ski in Italy and Switzerland within an Hour: July 2023 saw the opening of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing; the highest cable car crossing in the Alps which offers a new route between Cervinia and Zermatt. The 90-minute crossing is an experience in a class of its own – gliding over the stunning mountain landscape that straddles the Italian-Swiss border, with the Matterhorn always in view, it takes visitors on a journey through the Alps. Train Like the Champions: Cervinia and Plateau Rosà have become the training ground for the World Cup national and international teams. Skiers and snowboarders can head to Snowpark Zermatt, which is the largest freestyle facility on any glacier. vretreats.com 54

s we get into the swing of 2024, you might still be looking to fill up your calendar with some restful or adventurous holiday ideas. So, this month, I thought I’d share some inspiration and advice for families who are a little more limited by the school calendar. A tip I always share is the importance of booking early. School holidays never fail to be a popular time to travel, so to make the most of the best hotel rates and to ensure you get the best experiences, it’s vital to not leave it too late.

Easter notoriously books up quickly with families, so availably tends to get tighter the later you leave it. The Maldives is a great choice for this time of year, which has more to offer children than many people realise, including fun-filled kids’ clubs and surfing lessons. inspiringtravel.co.uk

IKOS ANDALUSIA

Summer needs no introduction, as it’s a highlight of many travel calendars. I’ve been seeing an increasing popularity among families for luxury all-inclusive resorts, so for 2024 I recommend Ikos Andalusia in the Costa del Sol. Along with a host of premium inclusions, you’ll enjoy complimentary hire of your own Tesla for the day, along with a ‘dine out’ programme which allows you to eat at authentic local restaurants at no extra charge. inspiringtravel.co.uk

Or, as the nights begin to darken and winter approaches, you might be looking for an adventure with a touch of magic. I’d suggest heading to the far-north of Swedish Lapland for a Christmas break filled with activities in the snow and searching the skies for the unforgettable northern lights. regent-holidays.co.uk What a year of family travel that would be!

For October half-term, you can’t beat a safari holiday. South Africa is a year-round place to visit, with excellent malaria-free game reserves to explore and family-friendly eco lodges. rainbowtours.co.uk

Location Anantara The Marker offers contemporary urban luxury overlooking the Grand Canal Square’s waterfront. Perfectly located in the modernised Docklands, the hotel captures the unique mix of vibrant charm and rich culture that exemplifies the spirit of modern Dublin. Originally a significant Viking Settlement and Port, Dublin’s character has been shaped by architecture spanning from Medieval to Modern times. In recent years the area has developed to become one of the trendiest places to live, work and play in Dublin. It is the home to the headquarters of numerous tech giants such as Facebook, TikTok and Google and is a short 15 minute walk to the city centre.

History The hotel name ‘The Marker’ is a mark of respect for one of the greatest inland trade routes, the Grand Canal. The direct link with the exotic trading hubs of Europe, the Grand Canal’s 82 miles were lined with cast iron ‘markers’. These markers were like milestones, showing travellers how far they had to go until journey’s end. The final marker was right where the hotel is located now, in Grand Canal Square.

Design Designed by the Portuguese architect, Manuel Aires Mateus, the building’s architecture draws on the elemental nature of the Irish landscape and combines it with a sleek urban aesthetic. Inspiration comes from the geometric shapes that exist naturally on the Irish land, from the rugged Burren Landscape to the unique hexagonal stones of the Giant’s Causeway. This elemental style is carried right through from the stunning ground floor bar and brasserie, through the unique geometric layouts of the bedrooms and up to the rooftop garden.

Energy Theatre. The room was bathed in natural light with a floor-to-ceiling window, had wooden panelling across one side of the room with an inlaid TV and entertainment system and a fully stocked mini bar. The bathroom was stunning and included a rain shower and Villeroy & Boch marble bathtub to unwind in.

All of the 187 bedrooms in the hotel are roomy and we enjoyed a premium room with a view over Bord Gáis

Food & Beverage Breakfast was served in Forbes Street, a restaurant by chef Gareth Mullins, who is a staunch advocate of Irish produce. There was an array of goodies served up, buffet style, and the welcoming team were quick to find us a seat and take our coffee order before we went to sample the many tasty hot and cold dishes on offer. We enjoyed our evening meal in The Marker Bar, which was a more relaxed, spacious area, with many guests dining and enjoying cocktails. The bar and lounge menu was more informal than the menu offered in the evening at Forbes

Anantara Spa The award-winning Spa at Anantara The Marker offers a haven of wellbeing in the middle of Dublin. The spa area is easily accessible via the lift and is a gorgeous, relaxing space. You can enjoy a refreshing morning dip in the infinity pool, work out in the gym and then unwind in the sauna and jacuzzi before

The highlight of our visit was meeting the renowned Irish storyteller Derek Brennan as he took us on a Dockland Experience tour. We were enthralled with every enchanting tale Derek shared, as he showed us around the hotel and up onto the Rooftop Bar & Terrace which offered an amazing 360 degree view of the city. Derek also showed us around Dockland, sharing stories of its history, and took us to the place U2 would practise in their early days. A great photo opportunity for music lovers, fans flock to the area to this day to pay tribute. Our tour ended back at the hotel, where Derek showed us the VIP entrance, reserved for high-profile guests (including politicians, actors and sports teams), who are often looked after by his son, who also worked at the hotel. As were viewing the event space, Lorraine Keane – a famous Irish TV presenter – stopped to say hello as she had been hosting a family event at the hotel the previous evening. Dubliner Derek thrives in his role as guest experience manager and seems to know every guest and staff member in the hotel. The tour ended at The Marker’s Bar where we enjoyed a (gorgeous) Irish coffee, as Derek spoke fondly of his wife, and proudly showed pictures from the wedding of his daughter, who had recently got married at the hotel. The Marker is a real family affair.

My Experience A weekend at The Marker offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a new rejuvenated part of the city, that’s easily in reach of the historic landmarks. If you’re looking for contemporary urban luxury, elite wellness facilities with Irish hospitality, make Anantara The Marker Dublin your next stay. anantara.com 57

My Experience Domes is a gorgeous new hotel in a quiet part of the island but easily accessible to the popular landmarks like the iconic windmills, Little Venice, the Old Port and all the lovely cobbled alleyways in Mykonos Town. The team looked after us so well and we loved the decor using earthy tones of creams and browns, helping create even more of a relaxing atmosphere. Our room boasted a beautiful view of the ocean and our balcony, although small, offered us the opportunity to see the cruise ships come into port in the evening and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. Down the hill from the hotel is Agios Stefanos beach where we enjoyed lunch in one of the traditional restaurants most afternoons and people-watched (one of our favourite things to do on holiday). You can rent a quad bike, vesper or a car from the rental office by the beach which we would highly recommend to explore the island. There are a few lovely restaurants and a shop, perfect for picking up some essentials and the area just oozes Greek charm. Overall our stay with Domes Mykonos was a memorable one. The team were so accommodating, and we loved the relaxed, laid back atmosphere. A slice of luxury in the Mykonos cake. domesresorts.com

Perched high above the lake, Michael Gates visited the Carlton Hotel, St. Moritz’s most refined hideaway Location St. Moritz, the birthplace of winter sports and one of the most famous ski resorts in the world. This favourite international destination is renowned for its elegant and exclusive atmosphere and is home to the five-star Carlton Hotel. Around a 3-hour train journey from Zurich, you can only marvel at the views as you travel through the mountainous landscapes of the Swiss Alps. The railway itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is regarded as one of the world’s most spectacular routes.

Hotel Perched high above Lake St. Moritz, the Carlton Hotel has incredible views across the lake and mountains of the Engadine Valley. Built in 1913 and totally renovated in 2007, the hotel is modern and contemporary, yet has retained its historical character and features. The hotel continues to

evolve, with rooms being refreshed over the last few seasons. The hotel offers a range of 60 spacious rooms and suites, created by Swiss interior designer Carlo Rampazzi, all of which are south facing and have views of the lake and mountains. Designed to offer the ultimate comfort in a range of styles and colours, with all the amenities and modern technology you could envisage in a luxurious five-star hotel. The suites are individually decorated, with handcrafted furnishings, marble bathrooms, king-sized beds with Berluti leather headboards, Venetian stucco ceilings and Murano glass lamps. The Carlton Hotel also boasts the largest penthouse suite in St. Moritz covering the entire eighth floor. Furnished with elegant interiors, there are three spacious bedrooms with individual bathrooms, open plan living and five terraces with all-round panoramic views. 63

Food and Drink At the heart of the hotel, the Carlton Bar and lobby is the perfect meeting place to unwind after a day of adventure or for pre-dinner cocktails. Situated on the first floor known as the ‘Bel Etage’, the generous space has been lovingly restored with two grand open fireplaces, comfortable sofas and highbacked chairs. Here you can enjoy a light lunch or afternoon tea and access the large sun terrace, ideal for taking in the panoramic views whilst you enjoy a coffee or Aperol Spritz. There are two restaurants to choose from at the Carlton Hotel and this season sees the return of Executive Chef Salvatore Frequente and the newly opened Grand Restaurant. The newly developed menu gives pride of place not only to local produce, but to wild products from the surrounding forests. Both the look and flavour of the dishes are inspired and enhanced by these gifts of the outdoors, which are picked and collected seasonally before being expertly prepared. Serving

hand-crafted Italian gourmet cuisine, the two-Michelin starred restaurant, Da-Vittorio St. Moritz is celebrating 10 years at the Carlton Hotel. Brought to you by Enrico and Roberto Cerea, the brothers also own the three-Michelin starred restaurant Da Vittorio just outside Bergamo.

Experiences Moving Mountains is the signature guest experience program that focuses on restoring your vitality, immersing you in nature and celebrating the joy of life. Based on five pillars; Move, Play, Nourish, Rest and Give, you can experience the holistic program throughout your stay at the Carlton Hotel. From activities such as ice bathing in Lake St. Moritz, tobogganing and exploring glacier caves to the dream butlers who create a luxurious and tailored pre-sleep ritual in the comfort of your room, the concept is thoughtfully created and executed well.

The Carlton Spa The Carlton Spa extends over 1200 m2 and three floors and there are six different treatment rooms where guests can enjoy a variety of massages and cosmetic treatments, indoor and outdoor pools and 64

a private spa suite. On the lowest floor, you will find a spacious sauna world, which is a warren of steam baths, saunas and a caldarium. For cooling down there are various showers, an ice fountain and outdoor seating terraces.

Personal Note The Moving Mountains ‘Play’ activities were one of my key highlights. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to experience ice bathing in Lake St. Moritz due to the weather, however, I did enjoy a torchlit hike around the lake and discovered the hidden places of St. Moritz. I also took a horse and carriage ride through town and the forest to Lake Staz where I watched the sunset whilst ice skating. The Carlton Spa was out of this world, and I treated myself to a Moving Mountains Massage. This was a full body deep tissue massage with hot and cold stone therapy, perfect for relaxing and stimulating my tired achy muscles after a day of activities. My final highlight was the fondue gondolas. Housed outside the front of the hotel, these unassuming heated gondolas seat up to 4 people and look magical when lit up at night. You can choose a traditional or truffle champagne fondue with a selection of meats, potatoes and bread, it was fondue heaven. Without a doubt, the Carlton Hotel is one of the most exceptional hotels I have ever visited. The hotel only opens for the winter season, but it would most definitely be my first choice when visiting St Moritz. The Carlton Hotel is open for the 2023/24 winter season from December until the end of March. tschuggencollection.ch/en myswitzerland.com 65

Mercedes-Benz brought back the big SL convertible in 2022, but it has taken until now for the most powerful AMG model to surface. Packing a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine with 804bhp (thanks in no small part to some F1-inspired hybrid assistance), this massive open-top grand tourer is capable of 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds before romping on to a top speed of 198mph. Yet despite the power and the clever propulsion system, it’s still a luxury car, with sumptuous leather upholstery and a stylish cabin filled with Mercedes-Benz’s latest technology. MEET THE NEW BOSS… Porsche is replacing the ever-popular Macan with something completely new in all but name, yet it’s still promising the same compelling qualities

F

or years, the Porsche Macan has been the best all-round car money can buy. There, we said it. From race tracks to farm tracks and from highways to high streets, there’s nowhere the Macan doesn’t feel at home, and despite the car barely changing since it was introduced 10 years ago, it can still beat the very best in the business. That’s testament to just how brilliant it is. But every dog – even the top dog – has its day, and the Macan’s twilight years are now upon us. The cabin is starting to feel old, and though the V6 petrol engines are brilliant, they’re pretty thirsty. So Porsche has revealed the car that will, eventually, replace the majestic Macan. Confusingly, it’s called the Macan, but there the similarities with its predecessor end. It’s more streamlined, more modern and more high-tech, and that’s all because the rip-roaring V6 engines have been replaced with near-silent electric motors. Yep, Porsche has built an electric Macan, designed to do everything the current petrol-powered car can do, but without burning prehistoric trees. At launch, there will be two models – the basic ‘4’ and the high-powered ‘Turbo’, but both get 100kWh battery packs and two electric motorsproviding all-wheel drive. The Turbo even gets 630bhp and can race from 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds. We’ve tried it, and it’s fast enough to make your stomach churn. From our brief passenger ride in a prototype car, we also know the new Macan will be just as agile as its predecessor, if not more so, and equally comfortable. We also know it’ll offer ultra-rapid battery charging and an official range of well over 300 miles, no matter which version you choose. Porsche Macan, from £69,800, porsche.com/uk 68

Once known almost exclusively as a Formula 1 team, McLaren has established itself as a supercar manufacturer. And for some time now, the entry point to McLaren ownership has been the softest, most practical GT model. Remarkable for its comfort, space and speed, it has all the supercar advantages without the drawbacks. Yet now it’s gone, replaced with the new GTS, which aims to build on the qualities of its predecessor. Headline upgrades include an extra 15bhp (taking the total to 626bhp), a 10kg weight reduction and an updated nose lift kit to help the car traverse speed bumps more easily, while there are new paint options, a modified design and fresh interior trim choices. Yes, the Golf R may be more powerful, and yes, the Honda Civic Type R may be more exciting, but the GTI is the yardstick. The car against which all others are measured. And now there’s a new one. Offering slightly more style, slightly more power and much-improved technology, the latest-generation, 261bhp GTI will be one of the sportiest yet. But it also promises to be more user-friendly than before, with new and improved touchscreen technology, as well as an automatic gearbox as standard. VW Golf GTI, £TBC, volkswagen.co.uk

If Lamborghini supercars are supposed to be unhinged, writes James Fossdyke, then the bonkers Huracan Sterrato must be the most definitive Lamborghini of them all

S

upercars can do many things. They can excite, they can terrify and they can bankrupt. They can strip you of your dignity and your driving licence in a heartbeat, and they can bring joy to small children anywhere. Yet for many things, they’re useless. Speed bumps, for example, are right out, and they aren’t especially useful for trips to the shops. Not only will they guzzle fuel faster than a small airliner, but cramped cabins and non-existent luggage bays mean they’re about as practical as Jimmy Choo’s stilettos. As we all know, Lamborghini makes the definitive supercars. Fire-breathing monsters that howl at the moon as they roar past, their brightly coloured bodywork punching improbably shaped holes in the air. They are, in a word, mad. And that’s why we love them. Nobody buys a Lamborghini because they need such a thing. They buy one because it’s the car they always dreamed of as a child, doodling in the back of a maths book. By definition, therefore, the Lamborghini Huracan is one of the most definitive supercars of the lot. Striking? Yep. Impractical? Oh, yeah. Fast? Very. Loud? Definitely. Unhinged? Absolutely. Surely, then, it would be impossible to build anything more ridiculous than the Huracan – a car that sees a tank of petrol not as a container of dinosaur juice, but as its morning espresso. But as you can see from these pictures, Lamborghini has done exactly that. It’s called the Huracan Sterrato, and it builds on the already bonkers Huracan not with more power, more performance or even more outlandish paint colours, but by taking it off-road. Yep, Sterrato means ‘dirt road’, and this car is designed to take the Lamborghini experience away from the asphalt of Italy’s race tracks and motorways, and on to the infamous strade bianche – the white roads that criss-cross Italy, connecting Champagne socialists’ Tuscan villas with civilisation. Or at least the local ‘enoteca’. Of course, the idea is ridiculous. Nobody could ever fit the volume of biodynamic Chianti required for a Champagne socialist’s breakfast

in the front of a Huracan. But when have fundamental flaws ever stopped Lamborghini from making something? So here it is, complete with outrageous off-road tyres, raised ride height and roof rails, which allow you to put a roof rack on the top. Add in some underbody protection to stop any loose stones damaging the delicate underside, as well as a dorsal air intake to help reduce the chances of the engine swallowing any dust or gravel, and your Lamborghini is suddenly less supercar and more rally car. Except it isn’t, because while rally cars are obliged to have small engines, the Sterrato definitely does not. In fact, it gets the same 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine as any other Huracan, albeit with slightly less power. But in the world of Lamborghini, “slightly less” power doesn’t mean much. Whereas a Huracan Tecnica, the sweetest of the road-going Huracan models, gets 631bhp, the Sterrato gets ‘ just’ 602bhp. And while the Tecnica sends its power purely to the rear wheels, the Sterrato uses all-wheel drive for greater traction. As a result, the Sterrato is quick. Not Tecnica quick, admittedly, but more than fast enough. Getting from 0-62mph takes just 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is well over 160mph. And it’s all made possible by that glorious engine. Were it not for its size and its incredible vocal range, the Huracan’s V10 would be nothing to write home about. There’s no clever hybrid system, there’s no clever supercharger, and it doesn’t run on mhyrr. Instead, it’s a dirty great sledgehammer that lives behind the Sterrato’s two seats, creating untold noise and carbon emissions, with a side salad of performance. Even starting it is an event. Push the brake pedal, lift the red cage on the centre console and press the hexagonal button beneath, and all hell breaks loose. The engine coughs and snarls like a bear rudely awoken from hibernation, and then it settles into its restrained growl of simmering fury. Push the accelerator, and it shrieks in protest, giving all the neighbours (by which we mean everyone in the country) the impression they’re being attacked by a tiger. It’s a wonderful, wonderful engine, and likely

71

Lamborghini

to be the last of its kind, but even that isn’t the best thing about the Huracan Sterrato. No, the Lamborghini’s crowning achievement is its comfort and, shock of shocks, its practicality. Because this is the first Lamborghini supercar that doesn’t need a clever lift kit to raise the nose every time you get to a speed bump. And it’s the first Lamborghini supercar that doesn’t turn your pelvis to dust every time it hits a pothole. In fact, it’s remarkably smooth, and without the need to worry about scraping the underside, it’s more relaxing than you might think. Okay, so it isn’t that relaxing. The rear view is non-existent, the forward view is barely any better and the whole thing is massively wide, which makes narrow gaps tricky. Add to that a sense of vagueness and rubberiness in the steering (that’s down to the chunky tyres that twist and flex as you corner, rather than an engineering issue) and it’s actually quite disconcerting to drive at speed. And it’s noisy. But it’s also enormously good fun. In its ‘rally’ setting (there’s no ‘track’ setting as

you’d find in a normal Huracan Sterrato Huracan), it slides and Price: £232,820 scrabbles its way down the Gearbox: Seven-speed automatic road like a proper rally car, Engine: 5.2-litre V10 petrol and it’s quite happy 0-62mph: 3.4 seconds spanking its way along Top speed: 162mph rough roads. It opens up a Power: 602bhp world normally off limits to supercar drivers. But that’s not all the Sterrato does. While it may be a flawed supercar – a Tecnica is much more fun to drive on a good (i.e. smooth) road – the Sterrato doesn’t quite have the baggage that normally follows a supercar around. Nobody thinks the owner is an overpaid idiot. Cars like this belong to someone with a sense of humour. Someone who doesn’t take themselves, or their car, too seriously. Sadly, all too few people will have the opportunity to own a Sterrato. Fewer than 1,500 will be built, with each costing £232,820, so takers will be few and far between. But that exclusivity is all part of the charm in a car that is by no means the best Lamborghini on sale, but might well be the most Lamborghini-ish Lamborghini on sale. And praise doesn’t come much higher than that.

All Dr Dresse essed dU Up p Dressing rooms are in demand, but what should you think about when designing yours? Clive Christian Interiors Head of Design, Oliver Deadman, shares some advice

A

ccoveted statement space and inner sanctum, the dressing room has become an essential element of any high-end interior. It’s a place to pull together the perfect outfit, whether you’re heading to training, to drinks, or to the airport. Thoughtful design and premium materials mean you can keep suits, shirts and shoes in immaculate condition while securing valuables like watches, jewellery and cufflinks in custom-built safes. But this most intimate of rooms is no longer restricted to sartorial pursuits, as a growing demand for his-and-hers dressing rooms indicates. This newly shared space is now being designed for comfort and pleasure as well as practicality – many dressing rooms incorporate seating, entertainment and even a dry bar or coffee machine. Add the latest tech-enhanced features like heated drawers and sub-zero drinks stations, and you’ll soon have yourself a space you’ll never want to leave.

We caught up with Oliver Deadman, Head of Design at Clive Christian Interiors, to discuss designing your first dressing room and wardrobe, trends he’s seeing in the space and what can be expected from brand’s upcoming London Townhouse launch:

Let’s start at the beginning, what is the best wood type to use in wardrobe design? Speaking historically, the best timber to use for clothes storage is cedar, particularly cedar of Lebanon, which has fantastic antifungal and pesticide qualities. This means you can safely store your winter cashmere without the threat of moths. We have recently produced a lined subterrain clothes store for a London client, which was lined in cedar of Lebanon. A particularly nice project, this was a

prized gem for the gentleman owner who is a very proud Lebanese patriot. The raw material cannot legally be cut down, which makes it very precious – the tree must fall naturally.

Design wise, what’s the first step? Understand usage. As with all our client work, dressing spaces are extremely personal. How do you want to use it? Who do you want to be in the space with? At what times of day? All these factors hugely affect the flow and specification.

80

What are the trends you’re seeing now?

What new tech have you been integrating?

Collectors – whether sunglasses, hats, watches, shoes, or handbags –a huge number of our clients are collectors and we’re integrating more ways of displaying, protecting, and preserving their finds. Whether it be designing moveable shelves that can change and stagger in height depending on the size of an item or low-iron presentation glass. We are serially integrating custom-built safes. Comfort in the dressing room: integrated seating, dry bars, entertainment systems, is also something we’re seeing of late. These spaces are being designed to spend time in, and they are evolving into entertaining spaces – much as we saw the kitchen evolve all those years ago.

We have seen an influx in dedicated decorative security. A fine example of this is the Buben & Zörweg safe which is to feature in the new Clive Christian Furniture Townhouse, housing watch winders, jewel pads and currency drawers all behind the finest quilted leather and German steel. In LA we recently specified a safe product, which lives discreetly behind a push-to-open, mechanically operated full-length mirror. On a smaller scale we have a fast-drop integrated drawer safe, which allows clients to drop keys, daily jewellery, wallets, passports, etc. – operated by fingerprint recognition. Appliances are becoming more present as spaces become more entertainment-led. We’re integrating beverage centres (Sub-Zero), Kaelo bottle systems within islands and even warming drawers used to preheat your linens and bathrobes.

Homes and Interiors

Is there any advice you’d give someone around the internal cabinetry design? As with most modern approaches to room layout, functional aspects are neatly hidden to preserve clean-cut decorative outer linework. Drawer separation, cable management for beauty appliances, pullout/up/down storage (for increased accessibility) – even dual-sided cabinets. Interior options are about balance, increasing functionality and workflow – without detracting from the desired aesthetic.

There’s a large dressing room going into the new London townhouse. Can you tell us a little about this? What specialist features have you included? The room plays a trick on the eye – a large central opening appears to cast a reflection of the cabinetry from left to right. Each space (hers and his in this instance) features a fitted tall run of metro deco inlay furniture with a central dressing island. Hers is frosted maple, while his is black walnut to create a fantastic yin yang effect. Hers concentrates on decorative storage for shoes, bags and long flowing garments (through fluted glass), while his has a beautiful central feature of the Buben & Zörweg leather-appointed safe.

Do you find yourself designing any specialist design details in the dressing rooms – marquetry or other features? The dressing room lends itself very well to personalisation. This is ever present in the fashion industry – we naturally adopt terminology like ‘tailored pieces’, ‘bespoke design’, ‘client monogram’ – we could quite easily be discussing a suit, when in reality it is about the space it is housed within. Why wouldn’t you want to adopt the same character and level of detail? A previous conversation I had when discussing a client brief likened the cabinetry in question to a Paul Smith suit: business on the outside, party on the inside! Cabinetry can be customised with bold leather, exotic veneers and glass work to pack a discreet statement.

What feature would you have in your own dressing room? I think the integration of creature comforts within the space is fantastic, bringing the feel of a hotel stay to the everyday. A dry bar for the evenings, coffee facilities for the mornings, all set just off an adjoining wet room – with soft music and a comfy chair arrangement…blissful. Elevatin levatingg Family Welln ellneess The synergy of sauna bathing and swimming at home with KLAFS & Guncast Swimming Pools in 2024

A

s the pace of modern life accelerates, finding new ways to prioritise family health and wellbeing is increasingly essential. In the pursuit of a balanced and healthy lifestyle, many families in Cheshire are looking to bring innovative wellness solutions into their own homes – particularly personal sauna cabins and private swimming pools. Sauna bathing, renowned for its rejuvenating effects on both the body and mind, has a rich history dating back centuries. The benefits of sauna sessions are far-reaching, offering a wide range of health advantages. Saunas promote cardiovascular health by improving circulation and reducing blood pressure, contributing to a stronger heart. Sweating in the sauna also aids in detoxification, flushing out impurities and leaving the skin radiant. Saunas can even help the body battle common colds and seasonal sniffles by encouraging the production of white blood cells.

In tandem with the sauna experience, swimming serves as an unparalleled full-body workout that is gentle on joints. The convenience of having a private swimming space at home eliminates barriers to regular exercise, encouraging families to adopt a healthier, more active lifestyle. Beneficial for all ages, swimming enhances cardiovascular fitness, builds muscle strength, and improves flexibility. Leading the UK market in home wellness are KLAFS & Guncast Swimming Pools, a marriage that sees the very best German design engineering company with luxury swimming pool specialist to deliver wellness suites to British clients – and it’s becoming more

and more popular by the day. Now with an exclusive new showroom in Cheshire, Director of Guncast Swimming Pools and KLAFS in the UK, Gilles Darmon showcases the latest products to hit the UK market in 2024 – each meticulously designed and crafted to add beauty and elegance to the home, and bring a wealth of health benefits to families in the North. Gilles Darmon comments: “One of the organisation’s most exciting new products is their S11 sauna – a collaboration between KLAFS and Studio F.A. Porsche, a premium design agency and originators of the Porsche design. The most harmonious, timeless and comfortable sauna that has ever been designed, the S11 is a limited run of just 999 units. The S11 provides a multisensory experience combining heat, colour, sound and comfort. Carefully dimensioned, precisely angled horizontal wooden slats create seemingly freefloating loungers, set against a backdrop of traditional Japanese Washi paper, and fit with cutting-edge light and sound technology tantalising the senses. “Swimming is an excellent way to work your entire body and cardiovascular system. An hour of swimming burns almost as many calories as running, without the impact on your bones and joints. Guncast’s moving floor swimming pool is a fabulous solution for expanding homes without enlarging the footprint or losing rooms.

At one touch of a button, the swimming pool is seamlessly raised or lowered, transforming right before your eyes. This innovative option is the ideal option for families with young children or pets, a great way to enjoy the peace of mind of increased security. The system allows you to create a safe space for all family members, from children to novice swimmers, by adjusting the height of the pool floor on demand. It is also hugely beneficial for households seeking a space-saving pool solution.” “Last but certainly not least is Guncast’s Vitality, Spa and Hydrotherapy Pools. The vitality pool is an excellent option for those who wish to have a pool but worry they don’t

have enough space. Equipped with air and water jets and often features such as bubble pads, massage benches and powerful massage jets, these small ‘swimming pools’ are the perfect addition to your daily wellness routine. Whether you plan to use it for spa hydrotherapy, counter-current swimming against powerful jets, water aerobics, massage or just simple relaxation, the spa pool is a must-have for any home.” For more information on Klafs UK or Guncast products, why not book an appointment at their office and showroom?
