Dear Lisle 202 Community, The Lisle 202 Learning Community is an exceptional group of students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members who exemplify what it means to be a Lisle Lion each and every day. Over the past two years, we have worked to return to our full scope of community programs and services across our schools. From class parties to field trips and concerts to family events, it is wonderful to see our learning community engaging and coming together as we have always done here in Lisle.

In Lisle 202, we are committed to preparing our students to be successful in the future path of their choice. Our students begin learning essential skills beginning as early as Kindergarten that build and evolve throughout their academic journey in our schools to prepare them for college and/or career. In this Fall 2023 edition of the Lisle 202 Community Mailer, we highlight the school district’s approach to supporting continuous improvement, the collective accomplishments of our students and staff, and the plans to enhance the learning spaces at Lisle Junior High School.

Top 5 Areas of Focus Our District and our schools each develop Top 5 Areas of Focus for the school year. These Areas of Focus are one of the ways we identify areas of emphasis to assist in continuously improving the overall experience in Lisle 202 so that our programs and services meet the needs of our students and prepare them for college and/ or career.

State Assessment Results Each year, the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is administered to students in grades 3-8 and the Standardized Achievement Test (SAT) is taken by students in grade 11. We are #LionProud to share that as a result of the targeted instruction and engaging learning experiences, our students’ performance resulted in our schools earning School Designations in the top two ranking tiers by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Lisle Elementary School and Lisle High School were named “Exemplary” schools and Lisle Junior High School was named a “Commendable” school due to the collective efforts of our learning community to support our students’ growth.

Junior High Renovation Lisle Junior High School has not seen a large-scale renovation since the 1980s. This summer we will begin the process of updating learning and common building spaces, repairing and upgrading essential systems, and reclaiming space for classroom instruction.

The long-standing tradition of excellence in Lisle 202 is the result of the strong relationships between the Board of Education, teachers, staff, parents, and the community members who are committed to providing our students access to the highest quality and richest variety of educational experiences. TOP 5 AREAS OF FOCUS Lisle 202 is committed to continuous improvement in order to meet the needs of our students and prepare them for the future. To accomplish this, each year our schools identify action items within the priority areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, social-emotional learning, and communication, also known as our Top 5 Areas of Focus. These action items inform decision-making and provide a framework for developing programs and services that support our students, staff, and families throughout the school year.

Lisle 202 schools review, adopt, and implement curricula that align with the Illinois State Standards and prepare students for the next level, college, and career. Each school works to deliver the content consistently across sections to provide learning experiences that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity at developmentally appropriate levels.

Developing instructional practices that accelerate student learning and create independent thinkers is essential in K-12 education. Lisle 202 educators design their instructional delivery to support and engage students while providing a variety of learning experiences that meet student needs, encourage growth, and challenge student thinking to build the skills necessary to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Each year, students in Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade participate in various assessments to measure their academic growth and content understanding. A more complete picture of each student’s progress is developed by utilizing multiple assessments including classroom assessments, interim assessments such as iReady that show growth toward learning targets, and yearly assessments such as the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) or the SAT. Each of these provide valuable information about student growth and progress that informs the curriculum and instruction across the grade levels.

Our students come to school each day with a variety of experiences and perspectives that affect their learning and interactions. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is critical to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Lisle 202 schools are thoughtful and intentional about integrating programs and experiences that support our students’ social-emotional growth to help ensure that they are ready to engage both academically and socially each day.

Lisle 202 is committed to effectively communicating relevant and timely information to our students, families, staff, and community through vehicles such as weekly school newsletters, social media, District mailers, and more.

ASSESSMENT RESULTS ILLINOIS ASSESSMENT OF READINESS (IAR) The Illinois Assessment of Readiness, or IAR, is the annual accountability tool for measuring student growth in relation to the Illinois State Learning Standards. Students in grades 3-8 take the IAR in the spring in the content areas of English-Language Arts and Mathematics as is mandated for public schools. The results from the spring of 2023 showed that Lisle student performance trends continued to increase, are returning to preCOVID levels, and greatly surpassed the State results.

SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST (SAT) Illinois students take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) as the required high school accountability assessment in our state. Students in grade 11 take the SAT each year in the spring to fulfill this requirement and as an assessment that may be accepted for student admission to institutions of higher education. The percent of Lisle High School juniors that met or exceeded the expected performance level on the SAT increased from 2022 to 2023 in both English-Reading-Writing and Mathematics, returning to pre-COVID levels, and continued to significantly exceed the State results.

Lisle Elementary and Lisle High School’s “Exemplary” status place among the top 10% of Illinois schools, and Lisle Junior High’s “Commendable” status among the two top tiers in the state.

LISLE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Renovations

First built as Lisle Community High School in 1956, the current Lisle Junior High School building began serving junior high students in 1974. Since that time, this facility has seen one significant renovation in the 1980s that expanded the commons area and added the District Office space to the front of the building; however, it has not seen any large scale renovations to the learning/classroom spaces since before it became Lisle Junior High School.

This summer, renovations will begin for the first time in almost 40 years to create learning spaces that better meet the current demands of teaching and learning. The renovations will primarily focus on modernizing and upgrading learning spaces such as science, technology, and special education, while also improving entrance security, replacing windows, upgrading lighting, and updating the building’s heating and air conditioning units. Renovations will be completed during the summers as shown on the timeline below to reduce the impact on students and staff and are expected to be fully completed at the end of the summer of 2027.

As part of the first round of construction projects this coming summer, the District Office will move to the Lisle Village Hall in Spring 2024 through an intergovernmental agreement. The space at the Junior High will be renovated, returned to classrooms, and be ready for students in the fall of 2024.

Lisle 202 is pleased to share that through careful financial planning, the District is positioned to renovate the Lisle Junior High School learning environments without increasing taxes beyond what is currently paid. The District intends to fund the majority of the project through the issuance of bonds and pay for the renovations over a period of approximately 18 years.

The current District Office has occupied the north section of the building since the 1980s. This space will be reclaimed and transformed into to four new classrooms.

NEWS & UPDATES LISLE HIGH SCHOOL

TOP SCIENCE ASSESSMENT RESULTS We are pleased to share the results of the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) taken by the Class of 2024 last spring showed that of the 23 public high schools in DuPage County, Lisle finished second in the percentage of students who earned exemplary or proficient scores. According to the results, 80.4% of Lisle High School’s Class of 2024 earned exemplary or proficient scores. This is a remarkable achievement and we are #LionProud of our students.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT HONORS It is our honor to acknowledge the outstanding academic accomplishments of four Lisle High School seniors.

Sriram K. and Anika M. have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program as a Semifinalists and Elija C. and Soren M. have been recognized as Commended Students as a result of their achievement and success on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Sriram and Anika will now continue in the competition among the top 16,000 highest scorers nationwide, competing for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered this spring.

ILMEA MUSIC FESTIVAL We are #LionProud of our six Lisle High School students who were selected to participate in the ILMEA District 9 Music Festival: Hunter C., Lucinda K., Anya K., Soren M., Cecilia R., and Jossalyn S. We would also like to congratulate our four Lisle Junior High Students who were selected to participate in the ILMEA Junior High Music Festival: Rose H., Kaiden J., Casey N., and Theo P. All of these talented musicians submitted an audition and were selected to participate in this special event. Way to go Lions!

BOARD OF EDUCATION RECOGNITION Congratulations to our Board of Education for earning the School Board Governance Recognition by the Illinois Association of School Boards. Our Board is one of only 45 in the State (out of 852) to receive this year’s honor.

To achieve recognition, our Board of Education participated in a number of tasks beyond their regular duties such as participating in legislative discussions and engaging in workshops and trainings.
