Antichamber
This magnificent side entry proves the old adage that a person’s home is their castle. The turretstyle foyer, also known as the “friends’ entrance,” is dramatized by a breathtaking octagonal ceiling with wood beams and a custom-built chandelier. The unique fixture was a true labor of love, salvaged and rebuilt from several elements stored in a friend’s antique warehouse, then sent to famed Nashville electrician, Millard Jefferson, who recreated the piece just for this room. Beneath the ceiling and chandelier, a cobblestone floor forms the foundation of the space. These stones were recovered from downtown Nashville after the city began replacing its original cobblestone streets with modern pavement. Fortunately, Mr. DePriest was a preservationist and relocated the cobblestone to this property to be used in the foyer. The center stone is a millstone from Belgium that was used as ship ballast on transcontinental journeys. This room has a history unto itself and is a treasured introductory space.
