Liquid Design is an award winning “total package” design firm in Charlotte North Carolina specializing in building design, space planning, interior design, and, project management. Liquid Design develops business relationships that engage the design process and create a more stimulating interaction with the client and the end user. Our high quality designs have broad appeal in recreational, corporate, retail, mixed use, educational, as well as multifamily and single family residential spaces.

From the very beginning owners Mike Standley, AIA and, Michael Williams, AIA, LEED AP have been focused on developing business relationships with their clients, which allows Liquid Design to provide a large range of architectural solutions on a variety on project types.

Our design experience focuses on client satisfaction through quality design and exceeding the

client’s expectations. We have been commissioned to design solutions for unique projects with extremely challenging design criteria from the US National Whitewater Center, the world’s largest multi-channel manmade whitewater facility with a large range of active outdoor lifestyle venues, to the mixed-use highrise Encore Tower and the highly anticipated, WhiteHaus; Charlotte’s first ultra earth-green modern residence.

Liquid Design takes pride in working on special projects that are challenging and distinctive in design. This in return has drawn top talent to our organization which equates to successful projects. With this talent we are currently pushing on all fronts to be sustainable and earth-green with our modern design solutions.

We encourage you to visit our website at www.liquiddesign.net and see how a uniquely creative approach could benefit your project.

SINGLE FAMILY PROJECTS

Our single family residential design work is ranging and exciting. We focus on how the client lives and what is important to them in the 3-dimensional world they live in. One thing is for sure no two clients are the same which translates into no two custom living environments are the same. Nor should they be. We at Liquid Design have always focused on the client as our clue for wonderful living environments. Mostly modern and often times “earth-friendly”, we love the process in residential design.

AERO HOUSE

A total home makeover for an existing 1948 mill house with one overriding theme for the project - simple and clean; green modern. The Aero House finished in at just over 2,000 sf, but feels and lives in a way much larger than that. A central covered “daylight courtyard” doubles the living environment with a simple opening of large glass patio doors. The screened patio allows you to take in the view of the entire back yard as well as the sounds of the fountain just outside.

WHITEHAUS

The client requested a unique design solution that will generate a modern beacon for passing boats. The exterior facade is a mixture of metal panels, concrete, ground face block and stucco. Sitting high on a seawall cliff the abundance of glass is designed to capture a wide range of views. Also, large exterior overhangs are designed to help reduce the direct western sunlight. Given the directive to avoid any wood, the large open interior spaces offer a clean-line, modern design solution with a range of textured finishes and tiles for flooring. A unique slate stone wall works through the length of the house and separates the main living area from the master bedroom wing.

MIURA

Miura is the result of a deep exploration into modern day living and entertaining hidden within a dense urban setting. The main level consists of blended indoor and outdoor zones for large gatherings all of which open directly to the pool and rear yard. A master wing

adjacent to the pool provides the perfect blend between access and privacy, with stairs leading directly to the spa from the master bedroom. The upper level contains the guest bedroom suites and a light filled central atrium connects the above ground levels of the home.

ZHOUSE

A study in modern front porch living as well as “right-sized” energy efficient sustainable design and construction. The zHouse sits on the fringe of a historic district neighborhood blending in as an eclectic urban infill turning heads for its unquieness and warm modern feel.

M2 HOUSE

• Columbine Circle Charlotte, NC

• 4,000 SF

Originally built in 1974, the M2 House had been largely untouched until it was purchased by the current owners and transformed into a museum-like series of volumes set to house an extensive contemporary art collection.

Existing clerestory windows, a central atrium, and large glass openings were made more impactful due to a completely renovated interior more adept at collecting indirect light to enhance the sculptural viewing experience.

LOTUS HAUS

Maintaining the existing footprint on a generous 5 acre site, the LotusHaus grew to 5,000 sf and transformed a subdivided ranch into a modern, open living plan for public areas that join the front courtyard to the rear pool.

BOWHOUSE

A weekend retreat on Lake Norman is converted from a party shack to refined entertaining with a pool and a master retreat elevated among the trees.

Grandfathered setbacks allow for a deck experience similar to the deck of a boat and the orientation explores themes of transparency and relaxation.

TREE HOUSE

The exterior facade takes cues from a “Frank Lloyd Wright organic” mind-set by using natural materials and low profiles, hiding it within the steep landscape. Also, exterior gardens are a focal

point and they are highlighted with an interior bridge that separates the main living area from the master bedroom wing.

FORM HAUS

The client requested a modern design solution that will reinforce their modern lifestyle and taste. The exterior facade is a mixture of brick, cedar planks and stucco. This original 1-story, brick ranch home was completely retooled into a 2-story, modern home, both on the outside and on the inside. The interior spaces consist of an open floor plan with new finishes that support a modern vernacular

614HOUSE

The 614House consists of 3 levels of all that lake living has to offer.  Indoor/Outdoor patios overlook the water and the dock across a large infinity edge pool.  Private spaces such as bed-

rooms, media room and an underground garage are all hidden from view and tucked into the lower and the upper floors while the first floor is all about entertaining and wide open vistas.

FIDLER HOUSE

This 7,000 SF 3-story modern home is all about lake living and entertaining. Exquisite views of the lake and an infinity edge pool help the structure embrace its environment even though it vastly differs from any other home in the

area. The use of natural materials, the incorporation of straight lines and curved details make this residence more than a home, it is truly an exploration in massing and space.

VENTANA COURT

The last empty lot on a lake is typically the one with the most complications but this triangular shaped gem on Lake Norman was the perfect shape to accommodate our client’s wishes. Generous two story living space overlooks

a beautiful shoreline just beyond a small plunge pool designed for sipping cocktails after a long day on the boat. South facing vistas of glass walls and windows covered by large overhangs ensure daylighting without glare.

ROCK BROOK

Rockbrook represents a unique answer to the design challenge of placing a decidedly modern volume in a traditional neighborhood yet keeping the elements that encourage visibility and pedestrian interaction with the street.

Described as a modern oasis, this residence was designed to make the everyday extraordinary.

DENBIGH DRIVE

Denbigh Drive took on the impossible task of converting a split-level ranch into a contemporary masterpiece.  All walls were removed on the main level and the ceilings vaulted to flood the interior with natural light.  The wooded lot was carefully crafted with perennials, plants, and a water feature to become a Certified Wildlife Habitat.

MOUNTAIN HOUSE

Mountain House is a visual reminder that high winds and significant winter snowfalls dictate an aesthetic response based on function rather than historic typology. Liquid Design transformed an unobtrusive ranch on a mountain-

MULTI-FAMILY PROJECTS

Our multifamily residential design work is complex and often times layered. And that’s the way we like it. Our talented design team understands today’s requirements when it comes to functional yet desirable living environments in regards to multifamily living. The connection to the urban fabric is step one and then finding opportunities to incorporate earth-friendly design strategies makes for an effective design solution where everybody involved comes out on top. And let’s not forget the Liquid Design splash of contemporary design.
