These are a selection of 18th Century estate maps from the parishes around Newport in South Wales. These sort of maps were commonly commissioned by landowners of that era to keep tracks of their holdings, and were incredibly detailed; describing the shape and size of each patch of land as well as indicating forested areas and orchards. These maps would have been accompanied by an index indicating how much rent was to be paid for each plot, and who was currently renting it from the landowner.
