In my previous project, I experienced urban design, monumental design, and small-scale spacial design. I am particularly interested in the social, environmental, and political issues related to the existing context.

“Activate Suburbia” is a renovative exploration of a vernacular block in Mattydale.

Considering the existing challenges of the aging population and the high unemployment rate in this community, the purpose of this project is to energize it by attracting young generations and stimulating the local economy. This project increased commercial density and residential density by adding units on the re-zoned block.

Aiming to provide higher income and various public services for the residents, it also introduces new programs of basketball-bar, restaurants, and offices to activate the block. The three main public spaces embedded into the volume, flexible for night markets and dances after dark.

A Place Closer to Dream

Individual work Site location: Syracuse, NY Completed Fall 2020 Instructor: Valerie Herrera “A Place Closer to Dream” is a project that has a close relationship with the context. It is a youth athletics center. The project derived from the datum line from the context of residential housing and the existing school. The building is in an L shape which creates a courtyard for the architecture and the city.

The city and the building merge at the corner. Every corner is treated differently.

The swimming pool in the courtyard is used for ice skating in winter, and the yard becomes an active space the whole year long, to provide a rest space for the city.

III A Pavilion of Meditation Competition Project: Yoga House on a Cliff Design Partner: Rui Cao, Yicong Shan, Yiran Liu Completed January 2021

This is a project locate in Portugal. The is a current yoga practice space which limits the retreat to host only 18 participants at a time. This yoga house enlarges to have twice capacity. Since the yoga house is locate on a cliff which has a great view to the nature. The core of the project is to bring natural to the design and open the design to the natural.

We choose to open the view of the façade as much as possible. Use the round corner to fit into the context.

The fitting room follow the circulation separated people in two groups, for man and woman. The roof garden on the top completely merges in to the mountain. A small café right near the garden could provide a great atmosphere for people to view the sunset.

The architecture piece act light a “spot light” in the dark. Contructed simply by the vertical columns and the horizontal surfaces surrounded by round corner glass boundary.

This is a multipurpose drone station designed for drone use, but also to prevent and solve flooding issues on the site. In this project the water channel plays a role in guiding people through the building, people who work there usually go directly to the office and visitors use a more interesting path. Water channels are of different heights and widths, some are quite short, and some are also used as a walkway during the dry season. The water channel is lower when it is more inland. To create this circular channel around the building that could pull water in from the river during the dry season and circulate the water out during the flooding period. The datum line was pulled from the context and tried to imitate the shape of the land’s contour line.

The material of concrete was specifically chosen for this site to prevent flooding. The design gives people a feeling of transformation from light to heavy, open to enclose from the riverside to the inner land, which matched with the program inside from public to private.

“Framed Nature” is a design for plants research located on the coast of Cocoa Beach. The local plants of Florida play a huge role of prevent flooding in this design. This local plant research center could help researchers to deeply develop and more efficiently place the plants which is also a place for visitors to learn and know more about those plants. The formal shape of the architecture follow the orientation of the coast. Place the project at the intersection of water lines make the project has a strong relationship with the water and nature. Choose the relevant material -- concrete-- for the project base on the consideration of the water.

This is an analysis project Bordeaux House which designed by Rem Koolhaas. This project detailedly develop sets of drawing base on the virtual relationship, functionality, circulation and thresholds relates with the disable host, the relationship and composition between 2D surface and 3D spaces, the geometric dimension of the house.
