WILDCATS IN THE NEWS wildcats reap conference honors A successful trip to Kentucky that includes three wins earns Amelia Wright and Bethany Shade Player of the Week honors Linfield took a trip to Kentucky for three matches over Spring Break, but rest assured, there was no horsing around. The Wildcats took down Centre, Asbury and Georgetown College in order to extend their win streak to four matches as they head back into Northwest Conference play. For their dominant Triple Crown road trip, the ‘Cats swept the NWC Lacrosse Student-Athlete of the Week awards, released Tuesday. Amelia Wright was named the Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring 10 goals and dishing out an assist. The freshman from Woodinville, Washington, fired off 17 shots, 15 on goal. Her week was highlighted by a six-goal performance in the Wildcats’ 22-6 rout of Asbury, tying her season high. Senior Bethany Shade was a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the field, earning her recognition as the Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week. The reigning NWC Player of the Year racked up 25 draw controls, 14 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers on the week. She caused a season-high seven turnovers and had eight ground balls and 11 draw controls in a gritty 12-7 win over Georgetown. Shade also scored a combined seven goals in the three matches while distributing an assist in each contest. Wright and Shade are the second and third Linfield players to earn NWC Student-Athlete of the Week honors this season. They follow sophomore Abby Ross, who earned the offensive honor a week ago.
