The junior righthander strikes out 37 batters on her way to alltournament honors at the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic Linfield ace Tayah Kelley was named the Northwest Conference Softball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time in as many weeks on Monday after throwing three complete games and striking out a combined 37 batters at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia. With Kelley setting the tone in the circle, the Wildcats went 5-1 in the tournament and moved to 11-2 overall (3-0 NWC). She improved to 7-0 on the season with a NWC-leading 0.93 ERA and 62 strikeouts. She also leads the conference with two shutouts. The junior from Myrtle Creek, Oregon, opened the tournament by striking out a career-high 15 batters in Linfield’s 11-1 win over West Region foe Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday, allowing one run on two hits. Her 15 K’s surpassed her previous best mark of 12 and is tied for fourth in program history for strikeouts in a single game. Kelley claimed another 14 batters via strikeout while again allowing just one run in the Wildcats’ 7-1 win on Saturday over Coe, which was among others receiving votes in the NFCA Preseason Poll. She came back on Sunday and fanned another eight batters in a 9-4 win over No. 8 Salisbury. Kelley was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

WOMEN’S SPORTS HISTORY SOUGHT Did you participate in women’s sports while at Linfield? Help is needed from those who participated prior to 1990, but all stories are welcome. Please complete this short survey to share your Linfield women’s sport experiences and help build our historical knowledge. Throughout the spring and fall of ’22 there will be a variety of events celebrating Linfield Women’s Athletics as part of the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. If you have questions about the survey, sharing your story, or the upcoming events, please contact alumni@linfield.edu.

NFCA TOP 25 POLL LINFIELD CLIMBING IN NATIONAL RANKINGS Texas Lutheran, which went 5-1 at last weekend’s NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic, is the new unanimous No. 1 team in the NFCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs (9-3), beat two ranked teams and two squads receiving votes at the power-packed Leadoff at the South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga. TLU’s lone loss was a 13-9 slugfest against then-No. 1 DePauw. Salisbury (14-2) moved up to No. 2 after a 5-1 Leadoff, which included three top-15 victories. The Sea Gulls’ lone defeat in Georgia was a 7-4 loss to then-No. 17 Berry. Reigning national champion Virginia Wesleyan (9-3) slips one spot to third after a solid 5-1 showing at the Leadoff, followed by East Texas Baptist (13-5), Birmingham-Southern (9-3), Eastern Connecticut State (4-2) and Tufts (0-0) in an unchanged 4-7. Linfield (11-2), which outscored its six Leadoff opponents 55-17, climbed nine spots in this week’s ranking, but lost 1-0 to unranked Transylvania in its tournament finale to keep them out of the top 10. The NFCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll is selected by 10 NCAA Division III head coaches representing the 10 NCAA regions. Current 2022 records are listed, with first-place votes in parentheses.
