linfield slotted 13th in top 25 poll

Christopher Newport swept Greensboro this week to remain secure as the top team in the NFCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll. Christopher Newport (25-1) heads an unchanged top eight, and a first five who have combined to win their last 45 games. That includes No. 2 Salisbury (26-2), which has won 13 straight, third-ranked Texas Lutheran (25-4), which has won its last nine, and No. 4 Birmingham-Southern (25-4), which has won 15 straight.

Elsewhere, DePauw (17-6) has prevailed in 14 of its last 15 games, going 4-1 on its California trip. The Tigers’ lone loss out West was a 13-12 loss in 12 innings to then-No. 18 Chapman.

Linfield went 4-2 last week, falling one spot in the Top 25 poll to No. 13. The Wildcats swept a doubleheader at Lewis & Clark but went 2-2 in a four-game set at Pacific Lutheran.

After two uncharacteristic weeks, No. 14 Virginia Wesleyan (21-8) looked more like itself in Monday’s rule-rule road sweep of Shenandoah (10-0 and 11-1) after voters had cast their ballots.

Babson (14-4) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (19-9) entered the top 25 this week after continuing their strong play, which for Mary Hardin-Baylor included another ranked victory — this time a 3-0 win over No. 7 East Texas Baptist.
