series breakdown LINFIELD AT A GLANCE The Wildcats went 3-1 last week. They won a non-conference game at George Fox before taking two of three games against Willamette to claim their third se-ries in NWC play. Daniel Kahn owns a team-leading .327 batting average to go with 32 hits, 17 runs, 20 RBI and 10 doubles. Tanner Jacques is just under .300 at .298. He leads the team with 36 hits, 23 runs and 23 RBI. Colton Meyer has been red-hot on the mound. He’s 4-0 on the season with three saves and a 1.93 ERA, which ranks second in the NWC. Jackson Koons is 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA in eight appearances and four starts.

GEORGE FOX AT A GLANCE The Bruins are coming off back-to-back NWC series wins over Whitworth and Whitman. They swept the NWC Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week in Spencer Roos and Sean Wiese. Roos has a teamleading 22 RBI. Noah Meffert is batting .417 with 25 hits while Jeremy Sangalang leads the team with 43 hits, 27 runs and eight doubles. Wiese is 3-2 on the season with 58 strikeouts and a 2.90 ERA. He allowed just one run on three hits while striking out 12 in eight innings of work against Whitman last week.

THE SERIES The all-time series between Linfield and George Fox stands at an even 55-55. The ‘Cats are 27-18 against George Fox at home, but the Bruins have won seven of the last 10 meetings. Linfield won 5-3 in a non-conference game with the Bru-ins on March 29 in Newberg.

LINFIELD SPORTS NETWORK

fans can now follow the ’Cats on the roku app The Linfield Sports Network brings fans live action of Linfield baseball each week. Fans can watch live play-by-play action of all home games on their desktop computer, tablet or mobile device or smart TV. The LSN also provides audio-only coverage of away contests.

The Farnham Electric Pregame Show starts joe stuart 15 minutes prior to each baseball game’s scheduled start time. Broadcasts include a complete postgame wrap-up, with analysis, final statistics and live interviews with players and coaches.

McMinnville native Joe Stuart begins his sixth season as the lead baseball play-by-play announcer. A 2020 Linfield graduate, Stuart is the athletic department’s broadcast coordinator, isaac milner managing all aspects of Linfield’s webcasting outreach, while assisting with sports communications and social media needs.

Stuart got his start in sports broadcasting with LSN, calling play-by-place for men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, baseball and softball contests. He also served as football sideline reporter for two seasons.

Current Linfield men’s tennis player Isaac Milner embarks on his first season of involvement with Linfield baseball broadcasts, and will serve as color analyst and occasional play-by-play voice.

WILDCATS IN THE NEWS wyatt smith heads to germany Linfield loses its starting third baseman when an offer to play professional football in Europe proves too much to pass up Linfield University two-sport star Wyatt Smith has signed a professional contract to play in football Europe this spring.

Together with high school and college teammate Tyler Sitton, Smith headed to Germany this week to begin training camp with the Munich Cowboys of the German Football League.

A two-time Gagliardi Trophy finalist and Linfield’s all-time passing leader, Smith considered over-tures from several professional playing organizations and leagues, including teams from the Canadian Football League and the upstart USFL. “We are so excited for Wyatt and Tyler to be able to have this experience in Germany,” said his dad, Linfield football coach Joseph Smith. “The coaches and administration at Munich have been very professional to work with. Wyatt and Tyler will be part of solid program and club competing at what most consider the highest level in Europe. I know they are looking forward to taking the work ethic, attention to detail and competitive drive that our program has been known for to Munich and doing whatever they can to make the Cowboys better.”

A two-time Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Wyatt Smith completed 71.2 percent of his passes (315 of 442) while leading Linfield to the NWC title and the quarterfi-nals of the NCAA Division III playoffs. He wrapped up his senior season ranking fourth in Division III with 43 touchdown passes and 300 points responsible for while also ranking fifth in the nation with 3,717 passing yards.

WOMEN’S SPORTS HISTORY SOUGHT Did you participate in women’s sports while at Linfield? Dr. Laura Kenow, professor in Health, Human Performance, and Athletics, is heading efforts to create a more complete historical record of women’s sports at Linfield. Help is needed from those who participated prior to 1990, but all stories are welcome. Please complete this short survey to share your Linfield women’s sport experiences and help build our historical knowledge.

Throughout the spring and fall of ’22 there will be a variety of events celebrating Linfield Women’s Athletics as part of the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

NCBWA TOP 25 POLL MARIETTA HOLDS TOP SPOT IN DIVISION III The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA polls with the NCBWA/D3baseball.com Division III Poll. Weekly polls continue through the NCAA Division III Championship.

Marietta of the Ohio Athletic Conference remains the consensus No. 1 pick in this week’s NCBWA poll. Eastern Connecticut, Birmingham-Southern, LaGrange and Lynchburg round out the top five spots.

The D3baseball.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.

The NCBWA also sponsors the Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication and writing contests.
