As the summer heat is upon us, I want to thank the residents of Lindon for your support and for the trust you have given us as your elected officials, and I invite you all to participate in our 2019 Lindon Days celebration. My hope is that we will enjoy a wonderful week of activities that bring us together as a community and celebrate our great Lindon heritage.
The theme for Lindon Days 2019 is “New Traditions,” and I hope the new activities that the staff has planned will get everyone excited to come out and spend some time with other Lindon residents. The “New Traditions” we will be presenting this year are:
1. Free All City Pinewood Derby Championship on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. Bring your cars from years past, borrow a car from a friend, or build a new car of your own, and bring it down to race at the community center. Any car weighing less than 5 oz is eligible to race.
2. Free Bingo at the community center at 12:30 p.m. following Senior Lunch. Anyone over 13 years old is eligible to play. Come win some great prizes.
3. A Foam Party and Water Fight will be held on Thursday, August 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Fryer Park. This event is perfect for the whole family.
4. Teen Pool Party is scheduled for Thursday night from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Aquatics Center (ages 13-18 years old).
5
. The GRAND PARADE has been moved to Friday Night at 6:30 p.m. We hope this new time will be even more enjoyable for families.
6. The Johnson Files Improv Comedy Show will be held directly after the parade on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. This is not a ticketed event and seating is limited so please be early as we expect a large crowd.
7. Free Swim Day has also been moved and will now be happening on Saturday.
The Cardboard Boat Regatta will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Get your cardboard boats ready to participate or come watch the creative boats race – it’s almost as fun as racing them. Remember that Lindon residents can come swim for free from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (non-residents from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.). The Dime Dive, Belly Flop Competition, KenDucky Derby, and Free Watermelon are also on Saturday.
The Saturday evening schedule has also slightly changed to include a balloon artist and face painters at 6:00 p.m., Scales and Tails at 7:00 p.m., and the concert and fireworks starting at 8:30 p.m.
I personally want to thank the Council, Staff, and Lindon Days Committee for supporting Lindon Days and for putting on a great celebration week for Lindon residents.
I also want to thank the great local businesses who sponsor the events, and I encourage you to use these businesses for all of your shopping and purchasing needs.
Check the schedule in this book for times and locations for the whole week of activities.
It is my hope as Mayor that we continue to inspire each other to be better citizens, neighbors, and friends.
As stewards of this great city, we will continue to work hard to provide a great environment to raise children and make lifelong relationships.
Lindon Mayor Jeff AcersonColleen and Gary Worthington will be honored as the Grand Marshals of the 2019 Lindon Days celebration. When asked what it means to them to be chosen as the Grand Marshals this year, both Colleen and Gary expressed how blessed they feel to be able to represent Lindon. Colleen said, “It means so much to live in a community where we can feel so much support around us. I can’t wait to attend Lindon Days and give that support back.” She went on to say how excited she is for the events and that she has them all highlighted and written down so they can attend as many as possible. “We feel so honored to be recognized in such an amazing community,” said Gary.
Both Colleen and Gary Worthington were born and raised in Utah. Colleen is from Provo, and Gary is from Grantsville. They met at Brigham Young University when they were working for a food service, which proved to be a foreshadowing of their future with restaurants. They both earned college degrees, Colleen’s in Childhood Education and Gary’s in Business Management. They are the founders of Kneaders Bakery and Cafe and also opened the first Subway Sandwich shops in Utah. They have now been married for 51 years, with 45 of those years spent living in Lindon. Colleen and Gary have six children, five daughters and one son, along with 22 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Three of their daughters served as Little Miss Lindon Queens, adding to the family’s already significant involvement in the city of Lindon and the community. “The community of people in Lindon has made it a great place to raise our children and house our family,” Colleen says, “The tight-knit city is one we are so grateful to be a part of.”
Gary started a General Contracting business after graduating college, where he worked on-site building and Colleen worked as the office manager. They made the decision to shut the business down when Gary became ill from the adhesives and sealers present on the job site, which then led to them opening the first Subway Sandwich in Utah. From there they went on to open 9 locations in Northern Utah, Southern Utah, and Colorado. One year into retirement after selling their Subway locations, they grew bored and started working on opening a bakery. They ended up retiring from retirement, and this is when Kneaders Bakery and Cafe was born.
Colleen and Gary researched and developed a restaurant concept featuring authentic European hearth breads. They worked closely with Lehi Roller Mills to develop their own unique flour blend and create their one-of-a-kind breads. Almost 20 years later, these original breads are still served in their 58 locations in 8
different states. Kneaders has become one of the fastest growing companies in Utah and has received countless awards across the state for tasty menu items stretching far beyond just their bread.
Colleen served in the PTA at both Lindon Elementary and Oak Canyon Jr. High, along with being involved in church programs such as Relief Society and Young Women’s. Gary also spent a lot of time volunteering with church programs, serving in Young Men’s, the High Council, as a Counselor in the Stake Presidency, and as Lindon Stake President. After retirement, Colleen and Gary said they missed having an outlet to easily give back to the community, which was a factor in the creation of their restaurant. “Being able to give back and provide residents of Lindon with jobs and donations through Kneaders has been a great source of service we are so thankful to have.” Colleen and Gary said, “It is great to be able to give to others in Lindon and show our thanks to our wonderful neighbors and community that we love.” Colleen and Gary have given back to Lindon in countless ways, and continue to make an impact in the city through service.
Colleen and Gary say they have loved living in Lindon and raising their children in such a great community. They have developed many friends over the years and have deep connections and relationships that they enjoy. They are honored to be named the Grand Marshals of 2019, and can’t wait to be a part of all of the Lindon Days events this year. “Thank you to everyone in the community for helping our family and being so supportive of us and all of our endeavors. We are so proud to call Lindon our home.”

For her Service Project, Cecily helped students in the special needs Kindergarten class at Lindon Elementary. She helped the students who have language delay with their confidence. Emery wanted to give the opportunity to as many parents as possible to learn about the rising need for internet safety and the social media issues that the kids her age are dealing with today. Emery is so excited to be a part of the Little Miss Lindon Royalty. She has a knack for being aware of the little guy and
