message

Lindon City is a wonderful place to live and work and I am so grateful to be part of such a outstanding community. Great schools, miles of trails, parks with playgrounds, good roads, safe neighborhoods and caring people - these are a few of my favorite things about Lindon.

Lindon is among the large cities here in Utah County, yet we retain a small-town feeling, evidenced by events such as the Memorial Day program, holiday tree-lighting ceremony, annual Easter egg hunt and our weeklong Lindon Days celebration. The 2016 Lindon Days celebration starts Monday evening, August 1. The Lindon Days staff and volunteers have worked hard to bring you another great celebration filled with activities for everyone.

I encourage you all to check the list of events happening during Lindon Days this year and take time to attend those that appeal most to you and your families. Don’t miss the second annual Cardboard Boat Regatta on Thursday morning. It is so fun to see the creative ways our participants take only cardboard and duct tape and make boats to race in the pool. There is something every evening all week long so check the schedule and come out and participate with us.

When we provide these types of activities each year, we reinforce the feeling of community spirit in Lindon. Come out and participate and see your friends and neighbors as well as make new friends this year at the Lindon Days celebration.

Whether you’re looking for a place to visit, live or build a business, know that you are welcome in Lindon!

little miss lindon

Adelaide Hawkins is 12 years old and is the daughter of Jon and Mary Hawkins. She will be attending Oak Canyon Junior High School in the fall. Adelaide loves to dance and has been dancing since she was 3 years old. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano and spending time with family and friends, and she also loves a good DIY craft. Adelaide was born in Washington, D.C., and loves to travel. She would love to visit Paris one day. For her service project, she sewed receiving blankets for the Mother/ Baby Unit at Utah Valley Hospital. She wanted to make sure that every baby that leaves the hospital has a warm blanket to go home in and help provide comfort for families in need.

Shara Bartholomew is the daughter of Michael and Kenna Bartholomew. She is 12 years old and will be attending Oak Canyon Junior High School in the fall. She loves learning new things, especially reading, art and anything that allows her to be creative including singing and dancing and making up songs. Art class and writing are her favorite subjects. She is always writing stories and essays for fun. Shara also really enjoys playing with small children; she can always get a smile out of them. Being the oldest of five children in her family, she is a great help with her brothers and sisters. Shara is always up for an adventure; camping, swimming, exploring and learning new things keep her energized and excited about life. For her service project, Shara connected with the United Way and their Everyday Learners program. She helped clean and prepare donated books for waiting rooms, offices, low-income schools and nursing homes.

Sabrina Romero is the daughter of Ryan and Maegan Romero. She is 11 years old and will be in sixth grade at Rocky Mountain Elementary School in the fall. Sabrina is the third child in her family with two sisters and two brothers. She loves dancing, craft projects, planning parties and activities, recording silly videos and tumbling. Her favorite subjects in school are science, math, English, PE and recess. Her service platform for the year is the Special Needs Awareness Project (SNAP). She worked with the Special Needs classes in her school, implementing activities and an assembly for a “super hero”-themed week. This helped the other children in the school become more aware of the similarities between them and those who have special needs.

Brientz Estee Fuller is going into seventh grade at Oak Canyon Junior High School this fall. She is the daughter of Dustin and Alissa Fuller. She has two sisters and one brother and is number three of four. She loves tumbling, singing and acting. Brientz is very tender-hearted and loves working with little children. Her service project for the Little Miss Lindon program was titled “Brientz’s Book Nook.” She had appointments with children in the neighborhood to work with them on their reading skills. She really enjoyed working with the children and seeing them progress.

Sienna Reese Tomlinson is the daughter of Chris and Collette Tomlinson. She is 12 years old and will be attending Oak Canyon Junior High School. Sienna has two brothers, Seth and Stockton, and a sister, Saige. Sienna loves gymnastics; she has a natural talent and fearlessness for the sport. She works more than 10 hours a week to strengthen and condition for competitions. Sienna loves to draw and write stories, play and act out characters in plays, swim and jump on the trampoline with friends. She has had some great teachers here in Lindon and it has inspired her to become a teacher when she grows up. Sienna wanted most of all to help children with autism for her Little Miss Lindon Project. Sienna’s brother, Stockton, has autism and she sees the struggles he faces on a daily basis. Sienna knew his school needed privacy panels for each child’s desk to aid with focus while testing and help eliminate distractions. Sienna was able to raise enough money to buy 260 panels for students that attend Spectrum Academy.

grand marshals

Don & Marcia Peterson

Don and Marcia Peterson have been chosen as grand marshals of the 2016 Lindon Days celebration. The Petersons both grew up in the Pleasant Grove area, Marcia in Manila and Don in Pleasant Grove. They met in high school and were married in 1972. They built a home in Lindon in 1977 and have lived in that same home in Lindon since then.

They have five children – Travis, Luke, Clint, Sarah and Quinn. All of their children are married and have kids of their own. Don and Marcia have 17 grandchildren

ranging in age from 16 years to 1 month.

Marcia worked in the PTA during the time their kids were in school. The Petersons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Marcia has served as Primary president and as the Young Women camp director. Don served as a missionary in the Pacific Northwest Mission. He was the Scoutmaster for many years, and he took the boys to the Uintahs for a week every summer. Don also served in two bishoprics and other callings in his LDS ward.

Don and Marcia have always had horses, and that became their favorite family activity. They would ride every Saturday all year round. Their family

loves to pack into the Uintahs and the Book Cliffs for a week at a time.

In 1983, Mayor Ken and Colleen McMillan asked Don and Marcia to help bring back a Lindon Days celebration.

They served on Lindon Days committees for the next 15 years. Marcia served on the planning commission for two terms, and Don worked for Lindon City for almost 32 years as the public works director. He retired in April of 2016.

“My daughter was failing 8th grade math. We put her in Mathnasium halfway through the year and now, in 9th grade, she is taking honors and passing with over 100%! She loves math now and is not scared of considering careers that involve math. I am so grateful we found Mathnasium, it has made all the difference!” - Jen C, Lindon

Party band The Salamanders will provide a performance of their energetic music on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 8:30 p.m. in Pheasant Brook Park, 800 W. 400 North.

Start with a rhythm section made up of world-class studio musicians boasting resumes that would rival any party band on the planet. They have worked with major music labels, motion picture companies and television studios and have toured with household names. They have played all over the nation for some of the world’s largest corporations and have backed artists like Collin Raye and Kenny Loggins.

Now add two superstar caliber vocalists with true genre-jumping ability. This married couple wastes no time on watered-down, “that will do” cover version vocals. They bring an authenticallycharged, intensely energetic performance with the rare and unique ability to smoothly transition from one song and style to the next, making each one hit harder than the last. They are a highly talented team that will settle for nothing less than perfection.

Together, they make up The Salamanders, a dream team of sorts that has the ability to boldly rock any genre of music with an in-your-face intensity and energy that will not stop. They provide an experience both captivating and extraordinary. With the unmatched combined look, sound and energy of the front line and the truly exceptional quality of the music offered by the rhythm section, there is no other that compares. They are the standard of excellence in the party band industry.
