Three sequential art exhibits 2020-‐2021 with awards given by Paulina Pobocha of the Museum of Modern Art, New York City “Works Created During the Lockdown,” We were experiencing a dark period in our lives, first with the deadly coronavirus pandemic followed by another horrifying social pandemic, both of which have spread all over the USA and worldwide like a Tsunami, and nothing seems to help lift our spirits in hope for humanity. This show is about the works created by artists only during the pandemic period so that we can find where their minds and hearts were and how they expressed it in their works. — Yuko Nii Read online here: https://issuu.com/home/published/wahlockdown2020-catalog17-print._reduced “Togetherness & Oneness.” This show was about needing to recover from our badly damaged lives. When Mother Earth is ignored, because we do not live harmoniously with her, and when society is fragmented, we need to think seriously about the causes and work hard to bring ourselves back to a “Unified Oneness.” We have to learn how to make positive changes in life. I believe this will happen only when all of the world’s citizens work and move forward together for a better and more peaceful tomorrow. This 21st Annual WAH Salon Show is the most significant of all the other Salon shows we have had in the past 20 years, because this 21st Annual Salon Show starts at the very beginning of the third decade of the 21st Century, and furthermore the WAH Salon became 21 years old, old enough to start our adulthood. We deserve to celebrate our 21st birth year, which will never happen again in the future. Part of Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day. 162 pp.full color, $80 plus $10 shipping USA Read online here: https://issuu.com/home/published/wahsalon2020-catalog19-print_reduced_1_

The WAH Center is pleased to present the long awaited Permanent Collection Part 3: 2010-‐2012 show. Split into two parts, this show not only features over 160 works from 100 artists collected between 2010-‐2012, but also contemporary works by these artists. While the WAH Center’s mission is to present art programs to the public, the Yuko Nii Foundation holds, maintains, and preserves contemporary art and historical artifacts and properties, including the landmarked Kings County Savings Bank which houses the WAH Center. 212 pp., full color, soft cover $80 plus $10 shipping USA Read online here: https://issuu.com/lindall/docs/wah-permanent-collection-part3-reduced_41-print

For “Women Forward,” Yuko has chosen four internationally renowned artists as “special guest artists” to head the line-‐up of a total of 32 artists in this two part show. These guests include Judy Chicago, Faith Ringgold, Toshiko Takaezu and celebrity Yoko Ono, those artists “for whom I hold deep appreciation and respect for having paved the bright path for the younger generations of women artists” as Yuko stated in the catalogue essay. And she goes on to say, “ in producing this show I hope to help wear down the continuing resistance to women artists.” These four vanguards of established artists saw Yuko’s clear and convincing vision of “a barrier-‐free world” in which men and women can appreciate each other’s talents regardless of gender, race and religious backgrounds, and they were willing to spearhead the support for her “Women Forward” show. The participating artists are of various ages from different cultural backgrounds, expressing their artistic visions with multiple media. Just as New York City offers a wide variety of international cuisine, this show offers a smorgasbord of women‘s art today with international scope -‐ a timely demonstration of the current “globalization” concept being actualized in the New York art world. This unique show, I believe, is the first major initiative for women in the arts for this century. 94 pp., full color, soft cover, print only $65 plus $10 shipping USA

“Women Forward, Part 2: Innovative Women” 2019, Presenting 21 outstanding women artists with diverse cultural background, heritages, and nationalities, this exhibition showcases works that are extraordinary, eye-opening, and inspiring. March is “National Women’s History Month,” which highlights the contribution of women to both contemporary society and historical events. There are quite a few celebratory events to honor women all over the city and the nation every March, including in the art world. These events are encouraging and powerful.

This October marks the WAH Center’s 23rd Anniversary with a special show entitled, “New Japanese Horizon.” In Japanese, the number “23” is read phonetically as “Nii-San”, and the Japanese people call our founder Yuko Nii, “Niisan.” It adds a bit of panache in giving the show this special subtitle, “The WAH Center’s 23’rd Anniversary Year – Nii-San Anniversary Year”. This show is to introduce mainly local Japanese artists (and some artists from Japan) who are pursuing their career in New York City, and presents a “Japanese ‘MultiTalented Showcase” including not only fine art, but also a range of creative fields such as textile, ceramic, book art, video art, craft art, even one commercial “shoe” designer’s work, It is indeed a big presentation of 110 artworks by 69 participants in the show”

150 pp., full color, soft cover, 2019, $80

Art Benefit Event for Earthquake & Tsunami Victims in Japan" on June 10th and 11th. Friday, June 10 was one of the hottest days for the early summer season and even much hotter everywhere in our building, but people's high spirits and positive energy were dispersed throughout the building. I sincerely hoped that the goodwill and high spirits we all shared have reached to those who are still suffering in Japan three months after the tragic day 3/11/11. The event was a great success. This was due to the generous artists who kindly donated the high quality of artworks (326 works by 170 artists) and those who came to purchase the artworks, and the enthusiastic audience who came to enjoy the performance programs by 17 outstanding groups, both music and dance performers. All of them had previously performed at the WAH Center, and ever since I've been following their professional careers and they have now achieved great recognition in the performance world. I invited all of them to perform for our special event. To them it was a homecoming and to me it was a heartwarming welcoming back performance showcase. 124 pp., full color, softcover, $80 pus $10 shipping
