Spring is an exciting time and certainly we have many exciting things going on in Lindale ISD! Student success is evident everywhere. First, let me recognize four UIL CX Debate State Champions: Alec Ramsey (Senior) and Jonas Thrasher Evers (Junior) won gold, while sophomores Ronak Desai and Anthony Wyatt won silver. Lindale High School therefore had the top two teams of students in the state. This is very appropriate as our Speech and Debate students are also the defending 2015 State Champions.

EJ Moss and Lindale Jr. High recently swept the UIL Academic Championship in grades 6th, 7th and 8th, ultimately winning the overall division. I am also very proud of Lindale High School senior Chassity Sims for winning the State Championship in her weight division. Our Pride of Lindale High School band should also be recognized for its great success.

More than 100 students have qualified for State in Solo and Ensemble UIL competitions, which also happens to be the most qualifying students out of any other school in East Texas. Lindale Jr. High and Lindale High School were also recently named Honor Roll Campuses for their great success in state testing.

We look forward to honoring our great class of seniors on Friday, May 27th at Eagle Stadium! I can not say enough about our fantastic students, staff and schools. We are continuously blessed at Lindale ISD!

Graduation Day: Friday, May 27th Graduation Ceremony The following stipulations apply: 

Students have satisfied all financial commitments to the school.

Students are in compliance with the dress and grooming code, as well as any other dress requirements exclusive to the graduation ceremony. 

Students are subject to removal from the graduation ceremony for inappropriate behavior before and during the ceremony. 

Students may participate only one time in the graduation ceremony during their high school career. 

All students have met Lindale ISD graduation requirements to participate in the ceremony. 



Students who choose to take part in the graduation exercises will be required to wear appropriate dress as designated by the campus administrators and to exhibit proper etiquette. Students who refuse to follow the guidelines from the administration will not be allowed to participate in the commencement exercises.

LHS Debate Program Takes Home 5A State Championship The Lindale High School Speech and Debate Team won first and second at the State UIL Debate Meet this past weekend. All four students that competed at the Meet placed in the final four round.

Both Alec Ramsey (Senior) and Jonas Thrasher Evers (Junior) won gold. Sophomores Ronak Desai and Anthony Wyatt won silver. Jonas and Alec, who were undefeated for the entire tournament, are the first two-time debate state champions in Lindale history. Jonas is also the first two-time golden gavel winner in Lindale history.

“Lindale ISD has a reputation for its great academics and programs,” said LISD Superintendent Stan Surratt. “Our Speech and Debate program may in fact be our most successful program. Their success is simply amazing and rarely matched by other schools. Our Debate students and coaches deserve great credit for their wonderful achievement at the State UIL CX Debate Championship.”

This is the first close out for Lindale since 2005. Ronak and Anthony were 12th seed starting this past Saturday, and the teams that Lindale students beat in the semifinals were nationally ranked.

"There is so much pressure when you're a returning state champion, but I was so proud of how calm and collected Jonas and Alec were throughout the tournament,” said Speech and Debate Coach Rory McKenzie. “They handled themselves professionally and with the best sportsmanship I could have wanted. I am honored that they've worked so hard and made history for Lindale. What Ronak and Anthony have been able to accomplish this year is nothing short of incredible as well. To do what they've done as sophomores speaks to their hard work and ultimate dedication. Debating your teammates is tough, but that final round was fun, exciting, and a true joy to watch. We are so grateful for the outpouring of support we receive from our campus, administration, and community. I am humbled to be entrusted with this team. This weekend was so special for us. I don't think it could have been written any better!"

Lindale students also showed their compassion and maturity throughout the tournament, as Jonas unselfishly stayed behind to help clean the debate auditorium after preliminary results were posted.

Spotlight On: Our Maintenance Department The LISD Maintenance department works year round to keep our campuses and grounds safe, and well maintained for our students. Not only do they work every day throughout the school year, there are also several summer projects the team starts to prepare for this May. Projects to be completed this summer while students are off campus are: 

Touch up painting inside and outside of campuses

Complete all work orders that were placed by LISD staff members

Spring 2016 Grant Patrol!

Dozens of people stepped off the Lindale ISD Spirit Bus and flooded the hallways of four Lindale campuses for the Lindale ISD Education Foundation 2016 Grant Patrol. The drum rolls, the horns sound, and more than 30 teachers open their doors to a large check. After months of anticipation, the teachers are told, with much fanfare, their project will be funded!

"Grant Patrol day is the day we, as Lindale ISD Education Foundation board members, administrators, teachers, and students look so forward to each spring,” said Lindale ISD Education Foundation Board President Vickie Frazier. “To work and invest in such a great cause is very rewarding, but to see the students' and teachers' faces when the band members, balloons, flowers, and BIG checks reach their doorway is amazing! We are also very thankful to our donors who make this possible every year."

The Lindale ISD Education Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) organization that provides funds for classroom projects and programs not funded or under-funded by the district’s operating budget. The foundation is supported through the donations from individuals, businesses and corporations.

The Lindale ISD Education Foundation awarded a total of $32,638.35 Tuesday, March 15th to Lindale ISD classrooms. The foundation began awarding grants in November 2009. Since the first grant cycle, the foundation has awarded $242,977.89 to LISD classrooms for over 70 projects.

Grant applications are submitted to the foundation by LISD teachers and aides for projects or programs that go above the day-to-day curriculum and offer students an enriched and unique learning experience. Projects selected for funding are rated on a number of criteria including the innovation of the project.

“The grants we awarded this year range from helping our students develop inside the classroom with interactive learning tools, to enhancing their resources in academic competitions and wellness activities.” said Lauren Loyless, Executive Director of the Lindale ISD Education Foundation. “As a non-profit foundation, we are blessed by our donors and the Lindale community to be able to fund so many innovative projects that will truly help our students excel beyond the classroom.”

Alumni Spotlight: Brooks Ann Camper Brooks Ann Camper is a 1993 graduate from Lindale High School. After graduation she attended Centenary Collage where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. She then furthered her education with an internship at Yale University, and soon received her MFA in Costume Construction from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Currently residing in Hillsborough, North Carolina, Brooks currently works as a custom wedding dressmaker and designer. She also teaches custom sewing and patternmaking in private lessons as well as in self-produced eCourses and will be teaching Couture Hand Sewing at Camp Workroom Social this Fall. Brooks also writes for Seamwork Magazine. Of her significant accomplishments, Brooks has created costumes for major theatrical productions such as “Wicked” and “Mama Mia!” Brooks has done custom sewing for the Rockettes, Disneyland characters and even the Muppets.

This was the first year for the LISD eNewsletters and the Communications Department is excited to kick off a new round of quarterly eNewsletters for the 2016-2017 school year! History of the Bluebonnet: 

On March 7, 1901, the Twenty-seventh Texas Legislature adopted the bluebonnet, flower of the annual legume Lupinus subcarnosus, as the state flower. The flower's popular name derives from its resemblance to a sunbonnet. It has also been called buffalo clover, wolf flower, and, in Spanish, el conejo ("the rabbit"). On March 8, 1971, the legislation was amended to include L. texensisand "any other variety of bluebonnet not heretofore recorded." At least four other species of bluebonnet grow in Texas: L. havardii, L. concinnus, L. perennis, and L. plattensis. Contrary to various folk stories and legends claiming that the plant originated outside the state, L. texensis and L. subcarnosus are native to Texas.



In 1933 the legislature adopted a state flower song, "Bluebonnets," written

by Julia D. Booth and Lora C. Crockett. Also in the 1930s the Highway Department began a landscaping and beautification program and extended the flower's range. Due largely to that agency's efforts, bluebonnets now grow along most major highways throughout the state. The flower usually blooms in late March and early April and is found mostly in limestone outcroppings from north central Texas to Mexico. Its popularity is widespread.



Although early explorers failed to mention the bluebonnet in their descriptions of Texas, Indian lore called the flower a gift from the Great Spirit. The bluebonnet continues to be a favorite subject for artists and photographers, and at the peak of bloom, festivals featuring the flower are held in several locations.
