Parks & Recreation Board

The Park & Recreation Board reviews and recommends policies, fees, administrative and budgetary matters to the Village Board. The Park & Recreation Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month in the Gerald C. Turry Village Board Room. Meetings begin promptly at 6:15 pm. The public is encouraged to attend.

Private Aquatic Center rentals are available on Saturday and Sunday evenings between 7-9pm for up to 1,000 guests. Rentals may be 1.5 or 2 hours long.

With our Pod Rental, you and up to 30 guests will have access to a designated private party area within the aquatic center for three hours. While the pool remains open to the public, your party will enjoy the luxury of privacy within your designated pod area. You can socialize, celebrate, and enjoy refreshments with your group while still being part of the lively aquatic center environment.

Dive into a world of aquatic skill development with our swim lesson program: LWD Swim School! Our expert instructors are dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable learning environment for swimmers of all ages and skill levels. We believe that learning to swim is not just an important life skill but a lifelong asset, promoting fitness, confidence, and a love for the water.

Immerse yourself in a series of engaging lessons that cover fundamental water safety, stroke mechanics, and overall confidence in the water. Our patient and enthusiastic instructors will guide you every step of the way. Whether you're introducing your little ones to the joy of swimming or fine-tuning your own skills, our program is tailored to meet individual needs.

Group Lessons Ages 3-15

Our LWD Swim School group lessons will separate participants into levels according to skill. Our strategic level progression includes two levels for the Tot/Kinder age and six levels for our school-age.

This class is designed to acclimate little ones to the aquatic world, building comfort through the use of songs and games. We’ll focus on blowing bubbles, kicking, floating, pouring water over the head, submersion, and overall water independence. Adults are required to be in the water with children, and children that are not toilet trained must wear tight-fitting swim pants.

Today’s families are busy busy busy! Our Custom Private Lessons allow you to schedule five 45-minute lessons around your schedule. All levels are welcome, and classes are one-on-one with an experienced instructor. You will be contacted by our coordinator to schedule your day and time one week before lessons begin.

Lincolnwood Lightning Swim Team Lincolnwood Lightning Swim Team

Lincolnwood Lightning is a recreational swim team where swimmers will participate in intersquad meets, as well as meets in the Northern Illinois Swim Conference. We believe in an environment that fosters a spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.

With a focus on fun and challenging training, our experienced coaches are dedicated to helping every swimmer reach their full potential. Training sessions are tailored to each level, with Novice swimmers enjoying four hours of practice per week while our Advanced swimmers dive into a rigorous twelve-hour weekly regimen.

Please note that the Lincolnwood Lightning Swim Team is not a learn-to-swim program. All new and returning Novice members must demonstrate proficiency by swimming at least 25 meters in deep water and successfully completing a one-hour group tryout practice. Little Lightnings Little Lightnings

Little Lightnings is specifically crafted for young swimmers who have outgrown traditional swim lessons but are not yet ready for swim team. Our program offers a perfect balance of challenge and support, preparing swimmers for the exciting journey ahead.

Focused on refining stroke mechanics and building endurance, Little Lightnings is designed to bridge the gap between swim lessons and swim team. Through dynamic drills, targeted exercises, and specialized coaching, participants will develop the skills and stamina needed to thrive in the pool.

But it's not just about swimming laps – Little Lightnings is also about fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for the water. Swimmers will forge friendships and develop a passion for swimming that will last a lifetime. Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

Monday, May 26

The annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony to honor and remember our American heroes will be held on Monday, May 26th at 10:20 am. The parade will begin at Pratt and Cicero, travels east down Pratt to Keeler, and then north to Morse. The parade will end at Madeleine’s Garden in Proesel Park, where a ceremony to honor the fallen will take place.

The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department is seeking local organizations, businesses, and residents to participate in the parade. Participants can walk, drive, or march in honor of those who gave their lives for our country. If you are interested in participating in the parade, please email Julie Glowacki, Recreation Supervisor, at jglowacki@lwd.org.

Lincolnwood Fest

Join us for this exciting four-day festival that takes place in Proesel Park July 24-27. Lincolnwood Fest is a beloved community event featuring live entertainment, a beer and wine garden, food vendors, a classic car show, bingo, carnival rides and games, and a family activity tent. Lil Leaguers Baseball: Juniors

The Juniors baseball program is designed to give children an opportunity to begin their baseball playing experience in a fun and supportive environment. During the class, activities are introduced to promote proper balance, equipment, hand-eye coordination, following directions, and early baseball fundamentals. Players of all skill sets will be able to participate and learn the great game of baseball! Players should bring their own gloves; helmets, and bats will be provided. Parent participation is required for this program.

Lil Leaguers Baseball: Rookies

The Rookies program is designed to progress children through their early baseball experience. Simple skills acquired in the Juniors division are reinforced and other aspects of the game are introduced in a fun and supportive environment. Fielding, throwing, catching, and hitting are focused on each week, with the aim to introduce players to a controlled scrimmage by the end of the session. Players of all skill sets will be able to participate and learn the great game of baseball! Players should bring their own gloves; helmets and bats will be provided.

Lil Strikers Soccer: Juniors

Day: Wednesday

Junior Strikers uses age-appropriate games and drills to promote motor skills and familiarity with a soccer ball. Through our fun games and adventure-themed activities, players develop skills such as balance, shooting, close ball control, and trapping. The Junior Strikers experience is one that not only instills a love for the game of soccer but also shows the importance of sports activity to promote a full and healthy life. Parent participation is required for this program.

Soccer Skills Clinic 101 Day: Wednesday

Players are introduced to the fundamentals of soccer tactics such as passing the ball, offensive moves, defensive moves, keeping/ controlling the ball and taking the ball away from the opposing team. Players learn to score and prevent goals. Physical endurance and fitness are emphasized while touching the ball. At this age, the focus starts to change from simple games to organized, tactical, competitive games.

Basketball Skills 201 Day: Monday

Players begin to develop more advanced skills such as various guard/post techniques, setting screens, moving without the ball, and offensive spacing. Defensive instruction includes man-to-man, denying the ball, helpline, and boxing out. Players spend time developing their shots using proper mechanics to be effective further from the basket. Scrimmages are played every week.

Baseball Clinic 101 Day: Tuesday

This baseball class gives players an introduction to baseball. Players work on technique and enhancing form in this comprehensive skills clinic. This program teaches throwing mechanics as well as batting stance, bat positioning, and speed, using both live pitching and hitting off the tee. Players learn various positions in the field through gameplay and basic in-game strategy. Players should bring their own gloves and be ready for a fun, fast-paced learning environment.

Junior Spikers Volleyball Day: Thursday

This introductory program is perfect for young players interested in learning the sport of Volleyball. Net heights will be adjusted to varying heights to ensure players can learn proper mechanics while having fun and enjoying the game. Players will learn all the fundamentals of serving, bumping, passing, setting, and spiking, to ensure they are prepared adequately in the future for competitive levels. This course is the perfect way for players to gain a love for the great sport of volleyball while making friends and learning in a group environment. No class: 7/3

Have your kids try their hands at the exciting new game of GaGa Ball! In this safer variation of dodgeball (played in a circular pit with low walls), your kids will learn the rules and basic strategies of GaGa Ball. This safe, fun sport will enhance the hand-eye coordination, motor skills and quickness of your young athletes. No targets above the knees in this game! This class is for both boys and girls!

New! OTA Chicagoland Co-ed “Bullseye Buddies” Archery Day: Wednesday

Join Overtime Athletics (OTA) staff for a funfilled introduction to archery, where youths and adults will learn the basics of safety, drawing the bow and shot accuracy. Each class is 85 minutes long. Friendly instructors create a safe, fun and supportive experience designed to help the archer develop his/her skills each week. OTA begins with safety and builds early success by starting with targets that are closer in and gradually increasing the distance as the course progresses. “Bullseye Buddies” is all about learning a really cool new sport and having a blast with a bow and arrow. Both archery classes are co-ed; and the 15+ class welcomes adults, too!

With the “NFL Flag” clinic by OTA Chicagoland (Overtime Athletics), your 5-14 year old gridiron gladiators will hone mad skills on both sides of the football. Passing, catching, running the ball, mastering the NFLexclusive pass routes and plays; learning lock-down defense- both zone coverages as well person-to-person defenses- it's all there for your child in this fast-paced, lowcontact non-tackle version of football. Glitzy Girls: GNO Pajama

Summer Spa Night

Come out with friends or get to know new ones at this popular Girls’ Night with Glitzy Girls staff! Come in your pj’s for a pampered night at The Spa! Staff will lead the event with teaching manicures and pedicures with a toe and nail polish application. Each person will get a foot and nail brush and mini buffer to use and take home. Fun, bright summer colors and nail stickers in fun summer choices will be available. A charm bracelet will be made with a great bead selection. The class will end with music and high-energy dancing as a fun finale. A fun photo op will be set-up for special class photos. Each participant will take home a special spa gift bag.

Glitzy Girls: Back to School Style

Day: Tuesday

Come join Glitzy Girls staff for a class to design some fun goodies to get you ready for the school year. Each participant will be creating a beaded item as a backpack accessory or jewelry. There will be a great assorted bead selection from crystals to sports, adventure, unicorn, animals, neon and more! Crafts will include fun accessories for school, decorating with paints, embellishments, stickers and more. A surprise goodie bag will go home with each participant, this is a great class for boys and girls!

Forever Fitness Drop-In Senior Exercise

Architecture River Tour –Navy Pier

Day: Wednesday

There is nothing quite like seeing Chicago’s world-famous architecture from the Chicago River! From hidden treasures to the city’s most well-known sights, you’ll view over 40 Chicago landmarks on this 60-minute architectural boat tour. The group will meet at the Lincolnwood Community Center at 10:45am and a coach bus will take you downtown for the 12:30pm boat tour. There will be some walking from the bus to the boat, please dress comfortably and wear shoes that are appropriate for walking. This tour usually goes on rain or shine. The boat which the group will be on is not chosen yet, so overhead coverage/shade is not guaranteed, please plan for this outdoor activity accordingly. (An idea is to pack an umbrella, this way you have coverage from rain or sun!) There is a cash bar on board most of the boats, food is not served. Feel free to pack a snack to enjoy on the bus ride either way. The boat tour runs from 12:30p-1:30pm. Plan to arrive back the Lincolnwood Community Center around 3pm.

Nothing says summertime and celebrating Independence Day then an outdoor BBQ with friends and live music! Staff will be barbequing hotdogs and burgers and will have plenty of refreshments to keep you cool. Kosher options will be available as well! The shelter is an outdoor location but is fully shaded. We hope you join us for the first Senior BBQ in the Park!

Drury Lane- Always... Patsy Cline

Day: Wednesday

It’s show time! The senior group is headed to Drury Lane for lunch and the theatre to see Always... Patsy Cline. Friendship, Heartache and Country Music. Featuring 27 of Patsy Cline’s biggest hits, this is the ultimate love letter to one of the most celebrated and influential performers of the 20th century. The group will meet at the Lincolnwood Community Center at 10:30 am and a coach bus will take the group for an 11:30am luncheon followed up with the show. Registration fee covers the cost of the bus, lunch and the show. Lunch will be served at 11:30 am and the show begins at 1:30 pm. The group will return back to the Lincolnwood Community Center after the show. Early registration is strongly encouraged!

Chicago Cubs Game Day: Wednesday

Play Ball! Let’s go see some summertime baseball at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds. Meet at the Lincolnwood Community Center and a bus will get you close to Wrigley Field. There will be about a mile and a half walk from the bus to the ball field, each way, please plan accordingly. Seats for the game are terrace level and are covered seats, so in case of rain or sun, there is coverage. Feel free to roam about the stadium once the group checks in and is situated at our seats; plan to return to seats at the 7th Inning Stretch! The group will leave the Lincolnwood Community Center at 11:30 am, the game begins at 1:20 pm. The cost of registration covers the bus and the tickets into the game.

Foxtail on the Lake is a modern Mediterranean restaurant located in a renovated former church building on Lake Opeka in Des Plaines, Illinois, offering a unique dining experience with high ceilings, colorful artwork, and a menu focused on dishes like brick chicken, beef shawarma, and paella, all set against the backdrop of a beautiful lake view; it's considered a casual, family-friendly spot with a classy atmosphere and is known for its distinctive setting within the repurposed church space. The group will meet at The Foxtail with a noon reservation. The registration fee covers the cost of the lunch.

AFTER-HOURS DROP OFF REGISTRATION

Place your completed registration form in a sealed envelope in the 24-hour brown drop box located in the front of the Municipal Complex in the circular drive. Checks and credit cards only. Make checks payable to the Village of Lincolnwood.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

Registration forms are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. To register for a class you must complete a registration form including participant name and program name. One family per registration form. All classes have minimums and maximums. Sign up a minimum of two weeks prior to the start of the class to avoid class cancellations.

REFUND POLICIES

The Lincolnwood Parks & Recreation Department is committed to providing high quality recreation programs and services. We want everyone to be satisfied with their recreation experiences. If you are not completely satisfied with our programs or services, please contact us as soon as possible.

GENERAL REFUNDS

General refunds will be granted when requested five full working days before the start of a program. All refunds are subject to a 10% administrative fee and will be mailed in the form of a check within 4-6 weeks of your request.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE A PROGRAM STARTS?

We understand that there may be a time when the program you registered for didn’t match your needs. If that is the case, we encourage you to share your feedback, ideas and suggestions for improvement as soon as possible. If we are unable to work through it together, we will refund you for all the classes not attended less a 10% administrative fee.

IN THE CASE OF ILLNESS, EMERGENCY, OR RELOCATION

Should you need to discontinue the program due to an illness, emergency, or relocation, we ask that you submit proof of relocation or a written medical explanation from a physician. Upon receipt, we will refund for all the classes not attended less a 10% administrative fee.

DEPARTMENT CANCELLATION

In the event a program does not meet minimum registration, the class may be canceled with full refunds issued.

BROCHURE ERRORS

Due the large amount of information included in each season brochure, errors may occur. There may be last minute changes in days and times of classes, registration requirements, and fees once the brochure has gone to print. You will be advised in a timely manner of any changes. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

PHOTO POLICY & VIDEO

Photographs and videos are periodically taken of participants while they are engaging in programs, special events, or enjoying the parks. Please be aware that these photos and videos may appear in local newspapers, Village publications, cable access program or on the Village website.

MAINE-NILES ASSOCIATION OF SPECIAL RECREATION (M-NASR)

Since 1972, M-NASR has provided and facilitated recreation programs and services for children, teens and adults with disabilities.

We are an extension of the park districts in Des Plaines, Golf-Maine, Morton Grove, Niles, Park Ridge, Skokie, and Lincolnwood’s Parks and Recreation Department.

M-NASR offers a wide range of recreation programming, both in person and virtual. Programs include athletics, adaptive sports, camps, cultural arts, social opportunities, special events and much more. M-NASR’s full time recreation staff have therapeutic recreation backgrounds and all programs are designed with the cognitive, psychological, social and physical needs of participants in mind.

M-NASR programs are offered throughout our member districts. M-NASR participants may register for all programs regardless of location and transportation is available to select programs.
