David Mateer, President
The 2025–2026 Board has been working diligently to ensure Sun City Lincoln Hills continues to offer the premier community experience we enjoy every day. The support of our residents, staff, and volunteers makes all this possible.
There have been several projects already approved and underway to keep our facilities updated and ready for you to enjoy the many activities available. The Orchard Creek Lobby and Craft Wing was approved in March with updates beginning in the second half of April. This will also include some changes to furniture in the Lobby, Living Room, and Card Room. Several items you will see with this update are reflective of the preferences you indicated in the survey conducted in December.
Many of you may have also noticed that the Association has picked up the pace on projects. This is part of the effort to maintain and update the vast
facilities our Association has for your enjoyment. In reviewing the projects, staff, committees, and the Board of Directors does a careful review of the need for the project, overall cost, and the value it would bring to our community. Being good stewards of our amenities and finances are vital roles of the Board of Directors and we take these responsibilities seriously.
In the coming months, we expect to see a project to update the Kilaga Springs Lobby, Library and Living Room. This will likely include refreshed furniture to offer more flexibility and usability of these spaces to meet the evolving needs of our members.
I would also like to welcome on the new Board for the 2026–2027 term. Working together with the strategic plan and the refined processes and oversight that has been established, I am confident that the momentum will continue to serve our members well.

As we move into May, we find ourselves at an exciting transition point, both in leadership and in season. With the recent Board transition, I want to thank our outgoing Directors for their service and dedication. Their time and thoughtful leadership have helped move key initiatives forward. We also look ahead to welcoming our new and returning Board members as they step into their roles and help guide the next chapter of Sun City Lincoln Hills.
With longer days and warmer weather, we are kicking off what is always a vibrant summer season. It’s already off to a strong start. We had a fantastic turnout for the Summer Amphitheater Concert Series (SACS) Launch Party event, with great energy as residents gathered to celebrate the beginning of another season of music, connection, and community.
In April, the Home, Health, and Business Showcase was another success. With strong participation from vendors and residents alike, the event offered valuable resources, connections, and inspiration for home projects and services. It’s always rewarding to see the community come together in such meaningful ways.
Behind the scenes, our teams continue to make steady progress on key projects across the community. From facility improvements to service enhancements, we remain focused on thoughtful planning and execution that supports both current needs and our long-term vision.
As we head into summer, I encourage you to take advantage of all our community has to offer—whether attending events, trying something new, or simply enjoying the amenities around you.
Here’s to a great season ahead.

George Herrmann, Chair
“No room at the inn” is a familiar expression, and at times it may feel applicable here in Sun City Lincoln Hills. One of the recurring questions CCOC hears is, “What happened to my room?”
Meeting rooms are at a premium. With more than seventy clubs, community organizations, committees, staff requirements, and the Board of Directors all needing space, it can seem like there simply aren’t enough rooms to go around. In reality, as new clubs and organizations are added and our community evolves, demand continues to grow while the number of available rooms remains unchanged.
Assigning rooms is not a simple task. The process requires significant staff time and careful coordination, involving months of planning to produce the annual calendar. Planning for the 2027 room assignments is already underway and will
continue throughout the year. The Board of Directors, committees, and staff requirements are scheduled first, followed closely by WellFit and Lifestyle. For clubs and community organizations, the process begins June 1, when room booking requests can be submitted to staff.
Many groups have met on the same day and time for years, and every effort is made to maintain that consistency. As we near the June 1 submission date, it would be wise to have your requests reviewed internally within your clubs and community organizations before that date. A little advanced planning, communication, and flexibility can go a long way toward improving the chances your requests will be accommodated.
Sun City Lincoln Hills is fortunate to have so many active clubs and organizations. Their energy is part of what makes this community such a special place to live.

Michael Mazikowski, Chair
If you’re looking for a way to make a positive difference in your life or the lives of others, you might consider becoming a volunteer. Volunteering is an opportunity to build relationships with people who share your values. This can help you form new friendships based on common interests. A volunteer community where everyone works together to achieve similar goals can strengthen your sense of belonging and purpose.
There are several committees and various volunteer opportunities in our community. Volunteering can be time consuming; however, there are also many rewards. When you volunteer, you could be part of a team that helps protect our facilities
and assets, assists with fiscal responsibility, verifies homeowner compliance, or supports staff by helping manage social events. Many of these efforts wouldn’t be fiscally possible without volunteer contributions.
One of the best things about volunteering is that you gain a better understanding of how the Association operates, and it’s a great way to meet staff and other volunteers. At the end of the day, volunteering is about service. It’s not about recognition.
Volunteering can make a positive difference by providing a sense of purpose and accomplishment. So, go ahead, take a leap of faith, and volunteer for our community!

Sherry Mosby, Chair
Remember the childhood game “telephone?” One person whispers a message to the next, and by the time it reaches the end of the line, it’s often completely different from where it started. What began as a simple phrase turns into something distorted, exaggerated, or just plain wrong. While it was funny on the playground, the same phenomenon isn’t quite as amusing when it happens in our community.
Lately, a rumor has been circulating that the Association is no longer accepting complaints from residents. To be clear: that is absolutely not true. In fact, we rely on homeowner feedback now more than ever. Without it, many issues would go unnoticed and unresolved.
So how do these rumors begin? Often, it starts with a misunderstanding, maybe a comment taken out of context or a social media post. One person shares it with another who interprets it slightly
differently and, before long, the message has changed entirely.
The reality is our committee, made up of just eight dedicated members, is responsible for helping oversee a community of 6,783 homes. It simply isn’t possible for us to identify every instance of non-compliance on our own. That’s where you come in. Resident input is not only welcomed it is essential.
If you ever hear something that doesn’t sound quite right, I encourage you to call Community Standards. Most complaints are sent anonymously; no one wants to complain about their neighbor. But if that neighbor is interfering with your tranquility, it is time to say something.
Let’s work together to keep communication clear, constructive, and truthful—no telephone required. Did you know… yard art (decorations) are best displayed in your backyards. You need ARC approval to have them in your front yard.

The Sun City Lincoln Hills Election Day on May 14 was a success because so many members of our community chose to participate. The Election Committee extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who took part in the process.
We appreciate the volunteers who encouraged community members to run for the Board of Directors and who helped organize an election process that introduced the candidates, providing meaningful opportunities to learn about the candidates’ platforms.
We thank the five candidates who stepped forward to run for office and devote many hours
to their campaigns.
We are grateful for the dedicated volunteers who counted ballots on May 14. Many of these Election Day volunteers return for every election, and we were pleased to welcome and train new counters this year.
We value the many residents who attended the Candidate Town Hall and Candidate Forum to learn about the candidates, understand their goals for the community, and engage thoughtfully in the election process by voting.
A successful election depends on the willingness of members to become involved, and this year’s participation made all the difference.

Ranny Eckstrom, Chair
The Board charged the Open Space Management Ad Hoc Committee with “the creation of a comprehensive Open Space Management Plan” within a four-month timeframe. The Committee held its first meeting on January 7, 2026 and presented its final report and recommendations to the Board on April 30. Unless the Board acts on our recommendation to extend the Ad Hoc Committee, our last meeting was on April 15.
One of the OSMC’s most important findings was that, in addition to the invaluable work done by staff to maintain our open space preserves, the community would benefit from ongoing additional environmental expertise via extending the Ad Hoc Committee and contracting with environmental consultants as needed.
It takes a village, or in this case, committee, to achieve what was done in this very short time span. From the start, the OSMC double-timed it, holding
two meetings a month to reach the Board’s goal.
During this time, the Committee reviewed 30–40 background environmental documents to understand our open space compliance requirements, submitted a successful proposal for “Beaver Deceivers” that will save the Association its initial costs within the first year of operation while being humane to our beaver residents, held a highly successful March 23 Community Forum to engage residents in celebrating the legacy of our open space preserves, and compiled a list of future Open Space Management recommendations. A recording of the Forum is available on the Resident Website.
The OSMC would like to thank you, the residents, for your interest in our Open Space Preserves, the CCRC for collaborating on the Open Space Forum, the Properties and Finance committees for approving the beaver deceiver proposal, and the Open Space Management Ad Hoc Committee volunteers for caring.

Lifestyle News and Happenings
Summer Sounds and Celebrations
Kelly Berto, Director of Lifestyle
Summer is almost here, and the energy of the season comes alive through unforgettable events designed to bring our community together. I’m excited to highlight two signature experiences you won’t want to miss.
The 2026 Summer Amphitheater Concert Series (SACS) returns with 10 concerts from May 22 through September 18. This diverse lineup offers something for every musical taste, creating the perfect setting for evenings under the stars. Whether you’re near the stage or relaxing in your chair, each night promises great music and a lively atmosphere. Shows start at 7:30 PM with gates opening at 6:30 PM with food concessions, no-host bars, and Handel’s Ice Cream available.
Residents are also invited to the 4th of July Block Party on July 4 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the OC Terrace at Orchard Creek Lodge. This free, family-friendly event celebrates the nation’s 250th
anniversary with live music, patriotic crafts, games for all ages, and caricature artists. A festive barbecue will feature classic favorites like burgers and hot dogs, with barbecue items and ice cream available for purchase.
Here’s to a vibrant, music-filled summer!

The Spa at Kilaga Springs Elevating Beauty this Spring
KarriLynn Keith, Spa Manager
We are truly honored to welcome globally renowned makeup artist Nechelle Turner to our Spring Edit event and even more excited for you to get to know the woman behind the artistry. Her work has graced red carpets at the Grammys and BET Awards and appeared in leading fashion publications, but it’s her warmth, authenticity, and passion for connection that make her presence here so special.
Nechelle’s journey began at a simple makeup counter during her college years where she discovered that beauty was never just about application, it was about confidence, transformation, and helping women feel seen. That belief has guided her throughout a remarkable career spanning nearly three decades. After refining her craft with top cosmetic houses, she joined Jane Iredale in 2014 where she now serves as a global educator and contributes to product development with a focus
on inclusive, skin-loving formulations. What makes Nechelle’s approach so refreshing is her philosophy of “quiet luxury.” She believes in enhancing, not masking. Her techniques are centered on luminous, lightweight layers and thoughtful hydration that create a polished look that feels effortless and true to you.
We invite you to join us on Wednesday, May 20, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM for a beautiful morning of connection, education, and elevated beauty. Experience an opportunity to learn directly from Nechelle, ask questions, and discover personalized techniques tailored exclusively to your skin. Preregistration is required to ensure a personalized experience, where you’ll receive expert guidance along with the tools to effortlessly recreate your refreshed spring glow at home.
Reserve your place and enjoy this rare, up-close opportunity to connect with an artist who truly understands and celebrates beauty at every age.

Outdoor Summer Fun is Here!
Deborah McIlvain, WellFit and Spa Director
There’s nothing quite like summer at the outdoor pools, one of the best times of the year to relax, stay active, and connect with friends and neighbors. Whether you’re swimming laps, enjoying the sunshine, or simply unwinding poolside, the season is officially underway!
As you take advantage of the pools, here are a few quick reminders to help keep things running smoothly for everyone. If you bring guests, you must accompany them and check them in at the WellFit Desk using your guest passes. Each resident receives 30 accompanied guest passes annually (up to 60 per household). If your guest would like to visit without you, unaccompanied guest passes are available for $10 per day.
Families can enjoy kids swim daily from 2:00 to 4:00 PM for ages 4 to 17. Starting Memorial Day weekend, additional staff will be present to help
monitor the pool area during this time.
For those focused on fitness, lap swimming remains a great low-impact workout. Two lanes are available for reservations, while one lane is reserved for drop-in use. Please note that drop-in use is limited to 30 minutes when others are waiting, ensuring fair access for all.
Now for the fun part, Margaritaville-style Happy Hour by the Pool! Kicking off on June 11 with DJ Tom Fretty, join us for music, food, and beverages available for purchase. Relax in the pool, lounge with friends, or enjoy a little dancing under the covered area. Happy Hour by the Pool is every Thursday through mid-September from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. Guests are welcome, but seating can be limited so bring a chair and make an evening of it!
Make the most of your summer. Move more, soak up the sun, and enjoy everything our outdoor spaces have to offer!

“The moon belongs to everyone—the best things in life are free.” This catchy 1927 refrain became a show tune for the musical Good News. Its meaning describes simple joys and love.

People gravitate toward the simple joy of acquiring free things, like tangibles, treats, and tickets. Why not? With the today’s economy, pinching pennies has turned into pinching dollars. Remember the last time you received something for free? How did
it feel? Wasn’t there a sense of surprise, an appreciation for belonging, and a happy sensation of being rewarded or receiving a present?
If you want to experience some simple joys, there is an abundance of events and activities offered to Sun City Lincoln Hills residents at no cost listed under the heading “Community Perks” monthly in Compass
Implementing and overseeing the perks are Lifestyle Director Kelly Berto and Lifestyle Operations Supervisor Charleigh Ridgway. “We are invested in these types of events because free events reduce a barrier in the community,” Kelly says, adding that they are another way that residents see the value of living here.
As humans, we constantly seek to learn and understand. Categories within Community Perks help us do just that—they
educate, inform, and inspire. There is something for everyone, whether it be author presentations, movies of various genres, or the discovery of clubs and organizations.
If you have a yearning for learning, here are just a few offerings for your consideration.
Meet the Author Lecture Series, held on the first Monday of the month, features local and surrounding area authors and their works. A recent presentation in April was given by Joan Griffin, author of “Force of Nature.”
KS at the Movies is held on Fridays. Movies are fresh flicks, classics, or blasts from the past. During March, memorable movies were woven into a film fest to celebrate Women’s History Month, highlighting women’s accomplishments.
It’s the Lifestyle! Expo recently conducted in April, is a popular annual event where residents can learn about the many clubs and organizations to join.
Coming soon, Kelly explained, are “Movies under the Stars,” outdoor films held on summer evenings with families invited. (More information to come.)
Also on the horizon, according to Kelly, are free workshops to include a variety of topics and speakers.
At Lincoln Hills, the best things in life are free. Today, consider perking up your life with a Community Perk or two.

Everybody loves freebies. Let’s face it, getting free stuff is fun… and getting fun free stuff is even more fun. Remember as a child emptying a whole box of cereal into a big bowl just to find the free toy inside? Our Lifestyle Department feeds our freebie frenzy by offering lots of fun “freevents” throughout the year—so many that it could be called the “Freestyle” Department.
The “Free Agents” are Lifestyle Director Kelly Berto and Lifestyle Operations Supervisor Charleigh Ridgway. Now in their third year
working at Sun City Lincoln Hills, they bring fresh ideas to liven things up. “It’s all fun,” Charleigh adds with a contagious enthusiasm.
Holiday happenings include free treats and photo opportunities with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. This year, Charleigh came up with the idea to give residents a no-cost cultural experience by recognizing Lunar New Year. The multi-day celebration was a “free-mendous” success.
Last month, Lifestyle put on a Summer Amphitheater Concert Series (SACS) Launch Party. Free snacks, music, and fanfare accompanied “the big reveal” of the SACS lineup.
The first Monday of every month, residents can gather in the Meridians Main Bar for Mix and Mingle. Driving this “free-way” to fun, the Lifestyle team provides opportunities to meet new
friends with themed icebreakers, laughter, and giveaways.
Have you been questioned about your uncanny ability to recite some mundane movie line from 60 years ago? Put your talent to the test as the Lifestyle Department hosts the free monthly Trivia Night. What started out as a small gathering in the Sports Bar has become so popular it now fills the Ballroom with over 200 contestants—most of them forming into teams. Prizes are awarded for brains “free-flowing” with frivolous facts. Tables fill up fast, so reservations are suggested to assure you will be seated. Early arrivals can purchase pre-game meals and confidence-boosting beverages.
To celebrate 250 years of freedom, the inaugural Fourth of July Block Party will transform the patio and lawn area behind Orchard Creek Lodge into a taste of classic Americana. Catch the spirit with grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, free activities for grandkids, lawn games, live music, and even a cameo appearance by Lady Liberty herself.
Of course, none of these events would be possible without the cooperation of all the other departments. The best things in Lifestyle are free, but it takes a team effort to “perk” our interests with new and exciting freebies.

For many of us, we have settled into a pattern where each day has a different activity which is how we recognize what day of the week it is. When we choose to not be in that activity, there is a pause of not knowing what tomorrow is. The answer may rest in going to the Indoor Track at the OC Fitness Center. See which direction the walkers
walk and that will give you the answer on what today is.
Walk and Talk (Last Tuesdays, 3:00 PM, Indoor Track) is a hidden gem for residents that may be shy or uncomfortable walking alone. Since inception, several residents have formed their own walking group which includes going out to lunch at Meridians afterwards. It is nice to go as a stranger and become a friend. Email WellFit@sclhca.com for more information.
New Resident Orientation (Wednesday, June 17, 2:00 PM, Ballroom) is an opportunity for new residents to come together for an engaging introduction to the community. Enjoy light refreshments and to meet your fellow new residents!
Twenty-seven miles of walking trails, many in partial shade and others have park-like settings like the two at Anglers Cove. Along these walking trails, a pastoral setting comes alive when the grazing of sheep and goats perform their magic and it is the little ones that capture the most eyeballs. One trail though goes nameless as it is not on the trail map, the No Name Trail connects Cottonwood Court to Northfield Lane. Old, spiky railroad ties equal flat bicycle tires.
The Outdoor Pools at the OC Fitness Center will come alive with music each week at Happy Hour by the Pool (Thursdays, June–September, 4:30–7:00 PM, Outdoor Pool), food and booze extra. When our community was breaking ground, the Outdoor Fun Pool was planned for a smaller footprint. There is a line of tile about midway on the bottom that separates the original design to the one that has been in place for almost thirty years.
The Lincoln Hills Experience (Wednesdays, 4:00–6:00 PM, OC Terrace) brings neighbors, friends, and new folks together to connect, laugh, and enjoy conversation. Each week, a different department will be featured so you can discover upcoming events.

Judie Panneton, Neighborhood Watch
At the latest Neighborhood Watch Safety Forum, the Lincoln Police Department urged residents to call the non-emergency number at 916-645-4040 to report unsafe e-bike riders and suspicious people. It is illegal for bicyclists to ride on public sidewalks and police urge residents to avoid confronting violators because it can become dangerous. If you see trespassers on Association property, call VForce Security at 279-239-9094.
Fire Chief Anthony Mejia commented that all Lincoln citizens are at risk of increasing wait times for call responses because his department is receiving more

calls and has fewer resources. The department is advocating for paramedics to be hired and a dependable funding source. View the information-packed safety event at sclhwatch.org or on the Resident Website under Community Forum videos.
The Neighborhood Watch Board of Directors is welcoming Judie Panneton and Terri Peterson. Judie has served as chair of the Association’s Accessibility Committee and on the Communications and Community Relations Committee. Terri’s professional career includes being an elder abuse victim advocate and an educational

Did you know that Neighbors
InDeed is separate from the Association? It’s a common misconception, but we operate as an independent organization. Because of our standalone status, your generous donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward empowering our neighbors to maintain their independence.
NID is a 100% volunteer run organization. Your donations totally fund us. Our services are free. You will receive a donation receipt card following your home visit.
So, how do we spend the
donations we receive? Even 100% volunteer organizations do not run for free. Our biggest expense is for insurance. We also rent a storage unit for our medical equipment. Then, there are supplies— we go through a lot of paper. There is more, but you get the idea.
Above all else, we volunteer because we want to. We enjoy serving and giving back to our community. We have approximately 120 volunteers: about 55 Handy Helpers, 20 call takers, 20 dispatchers, 15 medical equipment volunteers, as well as several individuals in various support roles. Last year, we received 7,322.
interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Like other Board of Director members, Judie and Terri will serve as temporary coordinators and mailbox captains where residents have not volunteered to do so. As you know, villages are best served by residents who live within that neighborhood. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit sclhwatch.org and click on the “Want to Volunteer?” tab. Neighborhood Watch provides training and support to ensure the role is simple and timeefficient. The group’s volunteers say that it is rewarding to serve their community.
That’s 30 calls per day!
The best thing about being a NID volunteer is the gratitude our residents express when we do a job for them. While the jobs we do are small tasks, they can be difficult for senior citizens and can make all the difference to the resident in terms of safety and convenience. Often our help can mean them being able to stay in their home. If you need a referral or assistance with a task, call us at 916223-2763. We won’t answer the phone directly, but, if you leave us a message, we will return your call Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

The Lincoln Hills Foundation will be offering Bingo in the Ballroom on Thursday, May 28. The cost is $25 for 12 games. Winners get $100 per game and $250 for blackout. Door prizes will be awarded. Daubers and pop-ups are for sale. Bring your own water. No alcoholic beverages are allowed during the games. No one under 18 will be admitted. Doors open at 12:30 PM and games begin at 1:00 PM. Please email: lincolnhillsfoundation@ gmail.com to reserve a table for eight.

The Ballroom Dance Club is excited to offer Night Club Two Step lessons in May! John and Mary Kirkwood will be leading the beginners’ class, while Jerry Halligan and Ginger Ikuno will guide the intermediate class. John and Mary grew up and met in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They were high school sweethearts and would meet up in the gym after sports events for the weekly dance. They both went to Ferris State University and once won a trophy in a Jitterbug contest at a Homecoming Dance. They had just learned the dance and then, they improvised it by throwing Mary around John’s hips, over his

head, and through his legs.

Our birding expeditions continue and there’s still more planned for this season, but as summer approaches, the critters head for cooler climates, so we and the birds will be taking the summer off. But that doesn’t mean birding comes to a complete stop. We can still go on our own to the mountains or to the coast. On May 22, the Group will take a walk on the Canyon Oaks Trail right here in Lincoln Hills. That’s usually good for Acorn Woodpeckers. We have even seen Wood Ducks and Hooded Mergansers and raptors there. Get your email on our list, and you will receive announcements with full information! We meet on the second Monday at 1:30 PM in P-Hall (KS). Come on by! Contact: Don Fallon 925-858-5933, suncitybirders@sclhbirders.org Website: www.sclhbirders.org

The Lincoln Hills Chorus struck a resonant chord with their recent spectacular country western concerts, “How the West Was Sung.” The Ballroom was transformed into a highenergy frontier, filled with the soulful harmonies of classic Americana. From foot-stomping rhythms to poignant cowboy ballads, the Chorus showcased their genuine passion for the genre. Audiences lauded the vibrant energy and professional arrangements, cementing the event as a seasonal highlight. We welcome new voices to keep the music coming! If you enjoy singing in a group environment and performing on stage, the Chorus welcomes you to join us when we resume our weekly rehearsals in September. May is the month to celebrate holidays like Mother’s Day and Memorial Day including fun celebrations like Cinco de Mayo and
Dance like a Chicken Day! As for our club, our members always enjoy dancing like Jerry Halligan and Ginger Ikuno who’ve been dancing and getting certified at some points to teach dancing on cruise ships!

Jerry Halligan and Ginger Ikunodancing together for years!
“I love the camaraderie, the social aspect, I think it’s a very warm and welcoming club,” said Ginger. However, Jerry argued, “I’m discouraged by many dances to learn.” But Ginger countered, “as long as we’re behind someone who knows the dance, we’re okay. Also, we’re attending class for beginners that’s encouraging.” Additionally, our Tuesday dance practices are ongoing at KS.

“EVERYONE CAN GROW AN IRIS!” Join us for an inspiring and informative presentation at our General Meeting (May 28, 2:00 PM, KS). Mary Ann Horton, owner of Horton Iris Garden in Loomis, will share the secrets behind one of the easiest and most rewarding garden flowers to grow! Irises are low-maintenance plants that thrive in our climate. Mary started gathering many historic iris rhizomes and used them to

landscape the 125-year-old farmyard that she inherited from her family. In 1999, she opened her gardens to the public and continued teaching mathematics full time at Sierra College and American River College. She now has over 1600 varieties of iris. Spring weather and planning for hikes and walks have proven to be challenging in 2026, but we hope that our upcoming months allow for more consistent planning. As the weather warms, start times also adjust, so those participating in walks or hikes should be sure to check our web site to confirm start times and locations. For those not familiar with the club, the web site also provides an opportunity to see our regular walking schedule, as well as both past and future hikes. Our below average winter snowfall will result in a longer Sierra hiking season this year, so members can look for numerous opportunities to enjoy both old and new trails. The first-ever Placer LGBTQ Center is now open in Roseville
The main event for LGBTQ people this month is the Placer Pride Festival, scheduled for May 16 at Royer Park in Roseville. But even more exciting this year is the opening of the first-ever Placer LGBTQ+ Center. Our Steering Committee recently invited two of the Center’s leadership team for a presentation on what they’re doing. To say we were impressed is an understatement; we enthusiastically voted to donate $1,000 to help them. We love our own Lavender Friends activities, but we also want to be active members of our entire community. Watch the Weekly for future activities, especially our annual every-member mixer in June. People frequently ask us, “What makes a Croquet Mallet legal?” Turns out the rules from the United States Croquet Association (USCA) aren’t very specific. There are no weight limits or size limits other than what makes them practical to play. The only requirements are that they be able to strike a regulation ball effectively, the two faces of the head must be the same and parallel to each other and the handle must be perpendicular to the head. That makes for a rather broad selection of styles. Serious league players will spend hundreds of dollars on a Mallet. The association equipment in the Croquet locker is wood and not that expensive. You can come check it out every Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM. Contact: Paul Mac Garvey 617-967-0516, sclhlawnfriends@gmail.com

Don’t sit at home with nothing fun to do. Come join us for Chinese Mah Jongg. For those unfamiliar with the game, it’s similar to gin rummy but played with tiles. April brought passing showers but was mostly defined by beautiful weather, a trend that continued into May with abundant greenery. To close the month, 25 cars set out on one of our favorite annual drives, winding along scenic back roads through Placer, El Dorado, and Amador Counties before enjoying lunch in Jackson. This beloved outing has been a club tradition since 2011. Afterward, some members continued on to visit the Lockeford Sausage Market, a gem in San Joaquin County. On May 4, members gathered after our meeting for a Mini-Car-ShowTailgate Party at Kilaga Springs Lodge. Later, 24 members enjoyed a fun, car-free outing at Topgolf. Upcoming events include drives through Capay Valley and Kit Carson Pass, plus a June dinner at the Wilo Steak House.

Sun City Squares Square dancing is clearly the ultimate team sport-because nothing says “elite athleticism” like eight people arguing politely while walking in circles. There’s strategy (remembering calls),

Square dancing, a new team sport endurance (smiling through mistakes), and teamwork (saving your corner from disaster). No benchwarmers here—just synchronized confusion, accidental collisions, and the occasional triumph when everyone ends up exactly where they’re supposed to be. Magic happens weekly. Monday square dancing sessions are from 12:15 to 3:00 PM. Advanced dancing Tuesdays 3:00–5:00 PM. Round Dancing Thursdays 1:00–3:00 PM at KS through May 21. Round dancing time and location change for the following days: May 28, June 4, June 11, June 25. All these sessions will be from 11:30 to 1:30 PM in the Fine Arts Room (OC).
