In the past few months, everything has changed. Few of us realized how fast and how deeply our lives would change; the way we work, the way we communicate, the very way we live. The impact on our community and the arts has been immense. Amid so much uncertainty, many may wonder what value the arts hold in a seemingly never-ending crisis. Art, by its very nature, is designed to provoke, to animate, to change our attitudes and challenge our understandings. Art’s constant process is one that moves us towards new and greater understandings of ourselves and the world around us. In our darkest hours, it is art that lights the way—illuminating our path to hope and laying bare our shared humanity. It is here that we express the inexpressible. It is here that we create an ephemeral refuge, whose sanctuary somehow stays with us long after the applause has died down. We stretch our hearts and minds and, in the process, learn things about our world and ourselves that we may not otherwise have recognized. The Lincoln Center has decided to honor its commitment to the community and to the art by moving forward with the 2020–2021 performing arts season. We are also committed to ensuring that the show will not go on unless it is safe to do so. We are taking every precaution to make sure we operate in accordance with local, national and international guidelines. Rest assured that we will offer full refunds for any cancelled performances. Amongst all the uncertainty, you can be certain that we will continue to be your home for celebration and connection, even if that looks a little different than it has in years past.
Jack A. Rogers, Director of The Lincoln Center
