F
all never seems to fail us. It comes at just the right time, after the peak of the heat, sweeping in fresh new air as the harvest season winds down. Crisp and cool mornings, evenings filled with the smells of pumpkin and nutmeg, and Friday night lights are in full swing. Autumn is my favorite time of year in the Valley — and one of my favorite times in Lincoln Center, as our merchants gear up for the changing seasons upon us. We’re kicking off fall with a jam-packed calendar of events! Starting on Thursday, October 3, St. Joe’s Caring for Me is returning to Lincoln Center for an exclusive evening of women’s health and fun. Following close behind — the best deals in Phil Johnson town are back at our Semi-Annual Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, October 5! There’s more fun that same evening as St. Mary’s High School RamFest is back at Lincoln Center for its third year. Come out to shop ‘till you drop and support local athletics. October 19 is also filled to the brim. Grab a cup of coffee and join us on the Bricwalk from 9:00 - 11:00 am to meet the UOP Tiger Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams who will be signing autographs. Then, join us for a special appearance of the Sanderson Sisters (Winifred, Sarah, and Mary) before their big screen showing of Hocus Pocus that evening starting at 6:00 pm. Lincoln Center has a lot to offer to get your home ready to channel all the fall vibes — indoor and outdoor. Begin with a visit to Silveira’s Flowers & Gifts for some accent garden pieces, then, head to CR Porter Home Décor to spruce up your pillow selection or grab a perfectly scented candle. Don’t forget to pop over to Best Wishes on October 4, from 9:30 am - 6:00 pm, to help them celebrate 30 year’s here in the Center! No better way to celebrate their achievement than getting cozy with some new décor that embraces the warm, nostalgic feelings of the harvest season. And, ahem, as a friendly reminder — it is never too early to get your reservations on the books for Thanksgiving or schedule your Christmas party at our many fine dining establishments (go to LincolnCenterShops.com for a full list of restaurants). Speaking of holidays, mark your calendar for the first glance of the Christmas season here at Lincoln Center on November 17 with our Christmas Faire. Snowfall will be back on the Brickwalk, as well as Santa, the Chug-A-Bug train and many more exciting things for the entire family. We thank you warmly — our customers — for supporting our 90 businesses every month, and we look forward to a fabulous fall shopping season.

he lightweight fighter, who made his pro debut in 2017, packs quite a punch, shown by his astounding record of 14-0. Though the recent Chavez High School graduate is only at the dawn of his career, his passion and natural prowess for the sport is already taking him to great heights. After an incredible amateur run, Gabe was signed to Top Rank at only 16 years old, making him the youngest person that the promotional company- who represents athletes such Manny Pacquiao and Muhammed Ali- has ever signed. Gabe’s infatuation with the sport started young, as boxing was a fixture within his household. “There are pictures of me at two years old with boxing gloves,” Gabe said with a laugh. Growing up, Gabe and his father would watch boxing together regularly, and the sport quickly became a family affair. After watching his older brother, Rogelio, train with their father, Gabe was inspired to follow in his brother’s footsteps and began boxing at seven years old. Now, Rogelio and his father make up Gabe’s team. According to Gabe, once he stepped in the ring, there was no going back. “Everything about boxing was something I loved,” he said. “I loved that it was a challenge and that every time I get in that ring something new could happen.” Gabe’s intrinsic love and undeniable dedication has catapulted him up the lightweight rankings—but much of his fight has come from outside the ring. Over the course of his young life, Gabe has witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of gang violence, though none as life-altering as the loss of his mother Juanita Maldonado in 2013, who was shot and killed while attending a child’s birthday party in East Stockton. Despite this unimaginable tragedy, Gabe has emerged with a positive attitude and unwavering determination. He is driven each day to not only succeed for himself, but to ensure his loved ones are comfortable and that young people in Stockton know exactly what they’re capable of. “I want to be an example

to the kids, in showing them they’ve got a lot of opportunities out there,” said Gabe. “A lot of kids in Stockton think their opportunities are really limited, when in reality they’re not at all. I’m a kid born and raised here, I’m just like them. I want to show them that they can do whatever they desire to do.” Gabe tries to visit as many kids as he can, often going to flag football games and East Stockton elementary schools to speak with the students. “Even if I get to one kid that’s good enough for me,” said Gabe, “because that’s one life that I’ve changed—that I’ve helped.” When Gabe isn’t boxing, you can find him golfing at different courses in Stockton, bowling, or hanging out in Lincoln Center. “Lincoln Center is like an everyday thing for me,” said Gabe. “It’s just a really good vibe. We love Nekter, Midgley’s, Papapavlo’s— going to Starbucks and drinking coffee in the morning. My sponsor, Lovotti, is in the Center a lot, and they introduced me to it. We love just being out there. Relaxing, talking, seeing the same regulars— it’s a community.” And community is extremely important to Gabe. In fact, being from Stockton is not just a stat on his bio, but something on which he prides himself. “It means a lot to me to be from Stockton and represent this city,” said Gabe. “When I fight, when I go out there, I make sure that it’s known that I’m doing it for us, for our city.

I wouldn’t be who the person I am if I wasn’t born here. A win for me is a win for Stockton.” The pride that Gabe pours into our city has been reciprocal, with the 209 rallying in support of this young hometown hero. At Gabe’s last fight at the Stockton Arena- during which he thrilled fans with a third-round knockout of his opponent- nearly 11,000 people showed up in support. Some fans even held signs with his mother’s photo. “It’s really deep. It’s more than them being fans,” said Gabe. “They really know my story and they really care for me. They’re there for me.” Though Gabe has tens of thousands of fans, his biggest one is by his side day in and day out. “My dad and I are pretty tight,” said Gabe. His father, Gabe Flores Sr., serves as both his coach and manager; and when they’re not in the gym, they’re usually at home talking boxing. Through tragedy

and triumph, Flores Sr. remains in his son’s corner in more ways than one, seeing to it that he pushes on with unrelenting tenacity and a laser focus. With the support of his city and a bright future ahead, this lightweight champ fights with a heavyweight heart—-and is creating a legacy that would surely make his mother proud.

know your neighbor Tell us how Squeeze Burger originated.
The very first location was in Sacramento near Fruitridge Road and is still operating today. The original owners invented the cheese skirt and Travis Hausauer bought the restaurant in 2004. Fruitridge Road is the very location where we were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2007 with Guy Fieri.
As a family owned and operated business, what’s your favorite part?
Jane Davis • owner
What is a “cheese skirt”?
The cheese skirt is a ring of grilled shredded cheddar cheese that we steam to perfection.
Do you have any advice for people getting into business with their family?
We hear you have 22 beers on tap — what are your top favorites?
Our family met together every week for months talking about all the pros and cons of a family business. One thing we all agreed upon was our relationships were more important than issues or things. My advice would be to make sure you lay everything out on the table and keep communication lines strong before going into a business with your family.
Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA, 21st Amendment, and Firestone.
Are there any specials we should know about?
Every Tuesday we have $3 cheese skirted tacos and happy hour is Monday – Friday 3:00 to 6:00 pm. On Monday’s, kids ten and younger eat free with an adult purchase.
What got you into the Restaurant Business?
Working with people and meeting all the challenges it takes to run a restaurant. In the beginning it was all hands-on deck with each and every family member, but now the kids have their own careers, families and priorities. If we ever do need help, they are always available on a moment’s notice.
What is your favorite dessert item on the menu?
We have the best deep-fried Oreos with ice cream and chocolate syrup, topped with whipping cream.

My husband Dean and I both lost our jobs in 2011. Our son, Matt’s in-laws, Travis and Vicki Hausauer, were expanding the Squeeze Inn brand, and after much prayer and research we decided to open a Squeeze Burger in Tracy. Once we started working with our kids, and were having so much fun, we decided to open a Squeeze Burger with both families, Davis and Hausauer, as well as Brian Salemme. So, I guess you could say we got into the restaurant business by necessity and opportunity coming together.
We know there’s more than just a cheese skirt burger — but tell us what else is on the menu? We have cheese skirted tacos, chicken sandwiches and salads, along with grilled cheese and BLT sandwiches.
How do you stay active in the community? EDITOR'S NOTE: On August 4th, the Davis family suffered the loss of their 2-year-old granddaughter, Abigail. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family during this difficult time.
We support local schools with fundraisers and this year we are hosting a fundraiser for “Guide Dogs for the Blind” on Oct. 12th here at Squeeze Burger in Lincoln Center!
