Transforming Lives
“For someone who was a refugee in Ethiopia, becoming part of the University of Oxford feels like an extraordinary achievement.
A scholarship has not only transformed my academic life but has also been a profound personal milestone, bringing me to a place I could only dream of.”
Lidya Tewelde (2023) MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies

The Large Impact of Small Regular Giving
I suspect that often when we think of philanthropic donations we imagine very large gifts beyond most people’s means, but when we do, we forget the impact small donations can have both as a collective endeavour and over time.
We have always been a strong community, and we are asking for your help to sustain that community into the future through collective action. If 1,000 of our alumni gave £10 a month to our Hardship Fund, then within four years the amount available for supporting students at the most difficult time of their academic lives would double.
I would encourage each and every Linacre alumnus to consider setting up a recurring gift to support us now and into the future. With help from the whole community, our students could have the best resources and support available to them in perpetuity.
Lisa Smårs Head of Alumni Relations and Development
Students face both rising living costs and increased academic pressures. To help alleviate some of these stresses, we are bolstering our student support funds. With support from our alumni, we have significantly increased the amount of grants paid to our students and have transformed our approach to student welfare, with a qualified Welfare Officer appointed whose salary is funded from our endowment.
This is a good start, but with your help we can do more to help students when they most need it.
This fund provides grants to students facing unforeseen financial challenges during their time at Linacre, ensuring they can continue their studies without undue stress.
Research Support Fund
This fund offers financial aid to our students, enabling them to engage in enriching academic activities, such as attending conferences, to advance their research and professional development.
Linacre Scholarship Fund
We have recently launched our firstever Linacre Scholarship. It is currently matched with the Africa Oxford Initiative, creating a full scholarship for a student from Africa studying in the Humanities division. The more donations we have to this fund, the more we can create large and more substantial scholarships within the University.
