GENIUS IN NATURE IS A PROJECT WHERE WE STUDY THE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF NATURE APPLIED INTO OUR SPACES AND SITE ITSELF. FROM THERE WE DEVELOP INTO A UNIQUE PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE. IN MY DESIGN, I STUDIED THE HUMMINGBIRD AND THROUGH ITS BEHAVIOUR AND RESIDENCE, DESIGNED AN ARCHITECTURALSPACESURROUNDINGTHECHARACTERISTICSOFIT.

THIS PROJECT FOCUSES ON IDENTIFYING THE ASPECTS OF PERANAKAN ARCHITECTURE AND MODERNISING ITS INTERIOR. FOR THIS PROJECT, THE REDESIGNING OF SPACE INCLUDES A CAFE DOWNSTAIRS AND A LIBRARY AT THE FRONT OF THE SECOND FLOOR AND A ROOM FOR THE OWNER.THISSITEISLOCATEDINEASTCOASTPARK.

位于东海岸公园,该项目的重点是识别土生华人建筑的各个方面 并对其内部进行现代化改造。对于这个项目,空间的重新设计包括 楼下的咖啡厅和二楼前面的图书馆以及业主的房间。

THE DESIGN OF THIS LEARNING CENTRE WAS BASED ON TAKING A "ZERO NET ENERGY" BUILDING APPROACH WITH THE FOLLOWING SPECIFIC DESIGN GOALS:. MINIMISE RESOURCE CONSUMPTION FOR HEATING, COOLING, VENTILATION, LIGHTING, AND WATER SUPPLY/WASTE, WHILE PROVIDING THERMAL COMFORT AND CONTROL CAPABILITIES TO OCCUPANTS. UTILISE ON-SITE RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES TO PRODUCE MORE ENERGY THAN THE BUILDING USES. INTEGRATE A NEW BUILDING INTO AN EXISTING CAMPUS CONTEXT THROUGH THE USE OF NATURAL MATERIALS AND CONNECTIONS TO SITE LANDSCAPE FEATURES.

该学习中心的设计基于采用“零净能源”建筑方法,具体设计目标如下:最大限度地减少供暖、制冷、通风、照明和供水/废水的资源消耗,同时为居住 者提供热舒适和控制能力。利用现场可再生能源生产比建筑使用更多的能源。通过使用自然材料和与场地景观特征的连接,将新建筑融入现有的校 园环境。

-GREEN ROOF (SOD)

OUR BUILDING WOULD BE ALL GREEN ROOFS. THE SUNCAST RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE ROOF IS THE HOTTEST PART OF THE EXTERIOR FOR ALL THE ROOMS.

HENCE WE OPTED FOR A GREEN ROOF TO REDUCE THE INTERNAL TEMPERATURE OF THE BUILDING. IT CAN ALSO HELP TO MITIGATE FLOODING AS THE PLANTS CAN STORE WATER AND SUBSTRATE BEFORE BEING NATURALLY RELEASED BACK INTO NATURE, CONSERVING IT FOR FUTURE USE. ON TOP OF THAT, WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SOLAR PANELS, IT CAN HELP TO CREATE A BETTER ENVIRONMENT FOR THE SOLAR PANELS TO WORK MORE EFFICIENTLY BY KEEPING THE TEMPERATURE OF THE ROOF AT AROUND 25 DEGREES CELSIUS.

-SOLAR PANELS (PHOTOVOLTAIC MONOCRYSTALLINE)

AS FOR THE SOLAR PANELS, WE WOULD BE USING PHOTOVOLTAIC MONOCRYSTALLINEWHICH WOULD BE SUPPORTED WITH STANDS. IT WOULD BE PLACED ON THE ROOF OF THE BUILDING ALL FACING TOWARDS THE NORTH WHERE THE SUN SHINES ON THE MOST TO RETRIEVE THE MOST SOLAR ENERGY TO PROVIDE ELECTRICITY FOR THE BUILDING. IT WOULD BE PLACED ON TOP OF THE GREEN ROOF MADE OF SOD THAT PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO COOL THE INTERNAL TEMPERATURE OF THE BUILDING. BY COOLING THE TEMPERATURE OF THE ROOF DOWN, IT ALSO ALLOWS THE SOLAR PANELS TO WORK BETTER AS IT WORKS THE BEST WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS KEPT AT AROUND 25 DEGREE CELSIUS.

REFLECTING POOLS ARE PLACED AT THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING WHERE THE SUN USUALLY SHINES ON THE BUILDING THE MOST. BY PLACING THE POOLS THERE, IT HELPS TO COOL DOWN THE BUILDING WHEN THE WATER FROM THE POOL EVAPORATES. AS THE WATER IS CONSTANTLY MOVING, IT DEFLECTS LIGHT IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, WHICH REDUCES THE GLARE ON THE SCHOOL BUILDING.

THE WOODEN FACADE PLACED ON THE THIRD LEVEL IS OPERABLE. BY INSTALLING THE WOODEN FACADE, NOT ONLY WOULD IT ALLOW MORE CROSS VENTILATION THE OPAQUE WOODEN PANELS CAN ALSO HELP TO MINIMISE THE AMOUNT OF SUNLIGHT COMING THROUGH. HENCE, MINIMISING THE POSSIBILITY OF INCREASING THE INTERNAL TEMPERATURE WHILE MAKING MORE OPENINGS TO FACILITATE MORE AIR MOVEMENT WITHIN THE BUILDING.

BY ROTATING THE ROOF IN A 45 DEGREE ANGLE FACING TOWARDS THE NORTH, IT HELPS THE SOLAR PANELS TO FACE DIRECTLY AT WHERE THE SUN USUALLY SHINES ON THE MOST. HENCE, RETRIEVING MORE SOLAR ENERGY.

A ‘BUFFER ZONE’ BEYOND THE ROOMS WHICH IS THE CORRIDOR WHICH ACTS LIKE A DOUBLE ENVELOPE WHICH HELPS TO REDUCE THE GLARE AND BRIGHTNESS ON THE CLASSROOMS AND LABS.

THE BUILDING WAS PREVIOUSLY HOME TO THE ST ANTHONY’S CONVENT (1879-1994), NANYANG ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS (1995-2004) AND CHINESE OPERA INSTITUTE (1995-2009). IN 2011, A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAM LED BY SCDA ARCHITECTS WAS APPOINTED TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A DESIGN PROPOSAL FOR NDC.

BUILT ON THE SITE OF SINGAPORE’S OLDEST HOUSING & DEVELOPMENT BOARD (HDB) BLOCKS, ITS DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION BOTH REVITALISES THE AREA AND COMMEMORATES ITS HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE.

A DESIGN COMPETITION WAS HELD AND WON BY TWO LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL FIRMS, WHO WORKED TOGETHER TO CREATE SIMPLE AND ELEGANT RESIDENCES, USING PRECAST TECHNOLOGY.

COMPLETED IN 2009, THE PINNACLE@DUXTON STANDS OUT AS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW HDB CONFRONTS THE CHALLENGES OF MEETING HOUSING NEEDS IN AN URBAN SETTING. ITS SEVEN 50-STOREY HIGH TOWERS RISE AS HIGH AS SKYSCRAPERS AND ARE LINKED AT THE 26TH AND 50TH LEVELS BY SKYBRIDGES. IT IS THE HDB’S FIRST RESIDENTIAL PROJECT WITH SKY BRIDGES CONNECTING THE TOWERS.
