AROUND THE INDUSTY

High Demand For Limousin Genetics.

Welcome to the Limousin 365 annual Herd Bull Edition! As you page through this issue, you’ll find some of the breed’s very finest and mainstream relevant herd sires showcased in accompaniment with multiple feature stories and relevant industry news.

As I write this column, pondering which direction to head, few words come to mind, but rather a feeling of the tide turning in regards to the overall demand for Limousin genetics. Currently, not only are we witnessing a massive surge in demand for Limousin-influenced show heifer prospects across the country but, perhaps more importantly, the beef industry appears to be thirsting for a Continental compliment of choice to our predominate Angus commercial cow herd base. That said, it’s with confidence I feel the Limousin breed is poised to meet the current industry narrative because of the improvements the breed cumulatively has made in terms of product quality and consistency over the last 15 years.

As evidence to the aforementioned statements; First, to address the “show” world. I think it’s clear as you follow show reports across the country the acceptance, popularity, relative dominance of “Limi” heifers is truly remarkable and speaks largely to the phenotypic improvement of quality in our cattle. Now to address the current “industry call”. Traveling to most all the spring bull sales, it’s truly refreshing to visit with commercial producers that recognize the level of improvement in disposition, reproductive efficiency and carcass quality as reflected in their kill sheets. The improving sale reports are beginning to reflect that mainstream conversation and what’s more, is the rising number of new and younger faces in the sale crowds which lends itself to the assessment that we are inching closer to the industry call as the “Continental Compliment of Choice”.

That in mind and in the spirit of the 2021 Herd Bull Edition, I’d like to encourage you to truly study your hole card this breeding season. First, understand your marketplace and the current cattle industry demands. Secondly, be sure to cater to your strengths while working towards improving upon your weaknesses. Third, be willing to ask questions, poll your customers, follow breeders and industry affiliates. I think having a firm handle on those basic concepts along with a willingness to ask questions will undoubtedly simplify your breeding decisions and ultimately lead you to profitable breeding solutions.

First and foremost, thank you to all of the advertisers, readership and those that continue to offer feedback on your official North American Limousin Foundation publication, Limousin365. Furthermore, there are a few house keeping items worthy sharing with you in regards to your publication.

1. From a staffing perspective, we’re pleased to announce the hiring of Sarah Johnson as well as the joint additions of both

Peyton Haley and Lindsey Meyer (via Precision Marketing) to the Limousin 365 production team. We continue to strive to provide you with a service-oriented, industry-relevant and efficient Limousin promotion team. 2. The United States postal service continues to present challenges to all print publications from a mail delivery standpoint which we are not immune to. This subsequent challenge has created unique timing and delivery rates specifically to rural communities across the country. We appreciate your understanding and tolerance in this matter. The unique advantage Limousin365 has is our digital platform, www.Limousin365.com. This is two fold. It underscores our encouragement to frequently utilize the digital platform and you can rest assured, despite the current mail system inefficiencies, you can always view your print magazine on the appropriated publication date digitally.

In closing, I hope you enjoy the 2021 Herd Bull Edition. I look forward to seeing you at spring sales and as always, we appreciate all constructive feedback as it relates to your magazine, Limousin 365. We are all in it together and Limousin proud.
