To me, Lima Memorial is family. When I was hired years ago, someone said, “Welcome to our family.” That was very true. I feel very blessed to be someone who enjoys coming to work, day after day, week after week, year after year. Lima Memorial has been a huge part of my life.

What is a Bucket List Goal You’re Confident You’ll Achieve?

Someday, I will retire and miss my second family here, but my bucket list is to move away to a warmer place to relax and enjoy lazy days.

Congratulations to Jenn on celebrating 25 years with our healthcare organization! She started her journey at just 19 years old in a PCT / Secretary role. Jenn held positions in the ICU, served as a night secretary and then worked in the Emergency Center before further advancing her career by becoming an RN. Throughout the years, she has made an impact in CIU, hemodialysis and now endoscopy, always bringing dedication and heart to every role. Her co-workers describe her as bubbly and a huge patient advocate, and she truly embodies compassionate care. As she says, she has “grown up here,” and we are grateful for the lasting difference she continues to make every day.

Congratulations to Kenyatta on reaching the extraordinary milestone of 25 years of service with Lima Memorial Health System. Kenyatta began her career as a medical record clerk at a time when medical records were entirely paper-based.

Throughout her tenure, she has not only witnessed but played an integral role in the many transformations within the organization, including the critical transition from paper records to the electronic medical record. During her career, Kenyatta has held multiple positions within Health Information Management and currently serves as an inpatient coder. In this role, she diligently reviews medical records to ensure that all diagnoses are accurately captured. She brings a wealth of knowledge to her work and is a trusted resource for her team. She consistently demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and is always among the first to volunteer assistance with special projects. Outside of work, Kenyatta enjoys spending time on the water, making memories with her grandson and vacationing with her family. Lima Memorial has become a large part of my life after being an associate for 25 years. It is a place where I have built lots of great relationships with others. My role in Supply Chain has given me a deep sense of purpose, knowing the impact on the clinicians, patients and the community supports my dedication. I have also been a Champion of Great Care during Hospital Week two times in my 25 years, which is pretty awesome! Lima Memorial is where I have learned resilience during challenging times, celebrated accomplishments with colleagues and developed skills that have helped me grow. The people I have worked with and my experiences here have left a lasting impact on me. It is a place filled with memories, lessons and pride in the work that has been done to serve our community. Congratulations, Jennifer Henry! People who do not know Jennifer, might say she’s tough or even a little intimidating. And honestly, there is some truth to that. Jen is one tough cookie. No doubt about it! But what people quickly learn is that her strength comes from years of experience, integrity and a big heart that drives her unwavering commitment to patient care. One of my favorite things about Jen is the extra effort she puts in for her patients. She is, without question, a true patient advocate. I have personally witnessed Jen spend hours on the phone, long after it would have been easy to say, “Good enough,” making sure a patient went home with the correct oxygen and equipment they truly needed. On any given day, Jen might be found in Endo assisting with bronchoscopies, then rushing to the Emergency Center to care for a patient in distress, then heading straight to OB for a C-section to help a newborn take their first breaths and ending her shift in the ICU providing compassionate care during the withdrawal of life support for a terminally ill patient. Jen does it all, and she does it with skill, strength and heart. Jen serves as a seasoned and trusted presence in our department, offering guidance and support to staff who rely on her experience and dedication. Her steady leadership and willingness to step in whenever needed make her an invaluable resource to the entire team. Congratulations, Jen, on 30 years of dedicated service. I hope you are proud of the respiratory therapist you have become.

I remember being asked shortly after I started here if it was a lifetime job, and I said no. Three decades later, I guess I was wrong. There are lots of good people here. Some of them refer to me as the dad in plaid or DIP for short.

Congratulations, Lois, on 30 years of service! Lois began her career with Lima Memorial Health System as a medical record clerk on third shift, at a time when Medical Records, now known as Health Information Management, operated 24 hours a day. During her early years, she witnessed and helped lead one of the most significant transformations in healthcare documentation: guiding the transition from admission slips and paper charts to the Electronic Medical Record.

Her leadership during this time was invaluable. In March 2017, Lois was promoted to Medical Record Analyst, where she plays a critical role in reviewing documentation to ensure compliance with Joint Commission requirements and the completion of accurate medical records. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the department and is a trusted resource for her colleagues. Her exceptional attention to detail, positive attitude and willingness to step in wherever needed make her an asset not only to the department but to the entire organization. Outside of work, Lois enjoys spending quality time with her children and grandchildren, as well as baking. Thank you, Lois, for your continued commitment and dedication to LMHS. Hard to believe it has been 30 years! Where has the time gone? Sure, I miss people who have come and gone over the years, but in the end, it is about the current hospital family today. It is amazing to see everyone come together for patients and various events the hospital puts on. I appreciate that the hospital has given me the opportunity to serve our associates. I pray to have several more wonderful years with LMHS.

I am looking forward to my grandson turning two this year. I have a cruise to Bermuda planned for next year that I am looking forward to before retiring in the next 5-7 years.

Holly has dedicated 30 years of service to LMHS and the pharmacy department, serving as a constant and trusted presence throughout decades of growth and change. Her knowledge of pharmacy operations is truly unmatched, shaped by experience that spans an era when the pharmacy operated from an entirely different location, was not open 24/7 and automated dispensing cabinets like Pyxis did not yet exist here. She was part of the team that traveled for training during the transition to the MEDITECH computer system, demonstrating her adaptability and commitment to progress from the very beginning. Throughout her career, Holly has consistently approached her work with care, confidence and an unwavering attention to detail.

Her strong work ethic, flexibility and willingness to step in wherever needed, across multiple roles and shifts, have been invaluable to the department. Because of her dedication, Pharmacy has been able to reliably deliver high-quality care to the patients we serve. Holly is deeply respected by both pharmacy and hospital staff, a reflection of her character and the lasting impact she has had over the years. She brings with her a quick wit, a warm smile and a laugh that brightens the department every day. Kim started her long tenure here at Lima Memorial working on 2 South for approximately nine years, then went to Geriatric / Psych on the 6th floor for a short period of time, with the last 25 years being in the Intensive Care Unit as PCT / Unit Secretary. Kim enjoys working with and caring for people in general, and one can see that she truly has a passion for talking with patients and families to ease their fears while working to reduce their incredible stress related to being in the ICU. She loves the ICU environment, as she says that there is something different every day she comes to work, which keeps it interesting. Kim has a gift in rapport building, and it does not matter if you are an associate, patient or provider, she will impact your visit to the ICU positively in some way. She is known for the great coffee she brews and for organizing unit carry-ins with her wonderful, highly requested desserts! Kim is heavily engaged in building our safety culture, currently serving as one of the unit’s safety coaches and as a preceptor when needed for training our new PCT / secretaries in the unit. When asked about her most memorable moment, she shared that Dr. Anigbogu gave her the nickname of “Peg” for her resemblance to an actress on a TV sitcom lasting even to this day! Kim’s hard work, commitment and dedication to LMHS is outstanding and greatly appreciated! It is my pleasure to congratulate Kim on her 35-year milestone!

What Does Lima Memorial Mean to You?

First of all, I cannot believe I have been here for 40 (41, but who is counting?) years. Right out of the gate, Lima Memorial was welcoming and ready to mold this brand-new nurse seven months out of nursing school. I am not sure how, but Lima Memorial has always had the reputation of being friendly. How can this continue over the years with different leadership and associates?

And yet it has. Lima Memorial, to me, has always been a microcosm of society. I love the atmosphere of working with different departments, personalities, education levels, cultures and specialties, all with one goal in mind. That goal is to provide the best care for our patients.

So, Lima Memorial gave me a place to grow and hone my skills as a nurse, providing me with the opportunity to fulfill my professional goals of administering care and compassion to those in need. Lima Memorial also allowed me to meet new people and develop relationships for a lifetime. I am so very thankful for the years here and for this recognition this evening.

Beth proves daily to be one of our most valuable nurses in the facility! Her story describes an associate that has been loyal from the beginning. She remembers starting out on the old 2 Main when the nurses station sat where the Outpatient Pharmacy currently sits. Beth enjoyed working on 2 Main for approximately three years prior to her joining the critical care team on the 8th floor where Education resides today. In Beth’s 40+ years, with the majority in critical care, she speaks of the profound evolution during her time, remembering when patients could smoke in house, which ended in 1988, and when the only physician was an ED physician, compared to our current state of 24/7 coverage of providers, which is absolutely HUGE! She experienced starting out with “Mr. Chips” (Memorial’s Complete Hospital Information Processing System) and converting from paper to computer charting, up to and including MEDITECH and all its upgrades. Beth has always been passionate about patient centered care, hence her famous nickname of “Needy,” which she explains came from always striving to do what she “needed” to for her patients. Beth has always been a high achiever, acting as Charge RN and in preceptor roles that teach our young RN staff. She also actively participates in our Quality Improvement and Staffing Committees, as well as Unit Council, to ensure a high standard of quality care. She maintains a high level of respect from all physicians, colleagues and patients for her thoroughness and great attention to detail as she delivers outstanding care! Jan is one of our most valuable critical care nurses at LMHS! She remembers starting out as a Volunteen, or candy striper, at the age of 14 and then working as a physical therapy aide during her first year in college. It was five years later when she began her nursing career, starting on the old 2 Main for three years and then Neuro ICU for three years, which eventually combined with ICU. Jan assisted in helping the OpenHeart program get up and running, spending two years on the 7th floor when it was CVICU / CVSD before going back to ICU where she has been ever since. She is one of the unit’s foundational nurses with a high level of skill and knowledge base. She can perform any role when asked. Over the years, she has been Charge RN, leading the team and also assisting in precepting new nurses to the unit. Jan loves the ICU setting and what it has afforded her, including a variety of experiences. She shared, “It is always something different every day.” Jan loves working at Lima Memorial and is thankful for the many wonderful people she has met along the way. She states, “I can’t think of anywhere else I would rather work,” commending her fellow co-workers and sharing that they are more like family to her. She applauds the hospital for being like a family instead of an institution. We want to thank Jan for the hard work, dedication and loyalty she has shown and share that we appreciate her and the care she delivers.

What Does Lima Memorial Mean to You?

Lima Memorial is my home! She has been a faithful partner to me for most of my life. I was 19 years old (oh, to be 19 again) when I started here in April of 1980. I intended it to be a stepping stone at the time, but I have been here far longer than I had planned on. Lima Memorial has had a great impact on my life, starting in Surgical Services for eight years, then Facilities for 32 years, Guest Services for two years and now in Environmental Services for nearly three years. Experiences in all these areas have made me a well-rounded person and shaped me in a way that has enhanced each aspect of my journey! The associates here are family. Each has a great capacity to love and care, not just for the patients, but for each other. I had a major health crisis in 1992, and my associate family came out of the woodwork to try to help me and my family. I had no idea that so many even knew who I was. Lima Memorial has a home of brick and mortar, but the real Lima Memorial is its associates all bonded together with the mission of caring for patients and each other. We each have a God-given talent, and when we bring them together, great things happen.

At this time, my bucket list goal is to see the five grandchildren entrusted to us raised, doing well in life and able to care for themselves!
