Lima Memorial has always had a special place in my heart. From the moment I started my 36 years in imaging, I have spent the majority of my time at LMHS. Working at a couple of other hospitals, LMHS has always felt like home with friendliness, compassion and teamwork.

After 25 years of working at Lima Memorial, only one word comes to my mind when describing what this place means to me, and that word is “family.” The hospital and the associates I work with have become a second family to me over the years. When I walk into a department to assist them with an issue, I am always greeted as though I’m walking into a family get-together. The family atmosphere that comes with working at Lima Memorial has been so great throughout the years that my children have also taken on employment here. It comforts me to know my children are also working for an organization where they can develop relationships with their fellow associates and have a second family after years of employment. I look forward to the years to come, the people I will meet and the relationships I will gain through working at Lima Memorial.

ONCOLOGY SERVICES - ADMINISTRATION What Does Lima Memorial Mean to You? I can’t believe it’s been more than 25 years that I’ve been with LMHS! I’ve made lots of friends who are like family. It’s the caring atmosphere that has kept me here. Health care has changed so much in the past 25 years, but what hasn’t changed is the compassion and Great Care LMHS is known for. This truly is what Great Care looks like! I’ve been given the opportunity to grow, not only as a nurse, but as a manager and director. While I’ve spent most of my career in Oncology, I was privileged to work as a director with so many great areas, including Infection Control, Associate Health, Palliative Care, Pastoral Care, Risk, Environmental Services and Laundry. I’ve learned so much from so many of our LMHS family. Thank you! One of the things I’m most proud of was being on the planning team and building committee for the Medical Park, a true beacon for health care in our community! I’m humbled and honored to work with the amazing staff in Oncology Services, our providers and teams in other departments who all give the best care for our patients! We’re not only saving lives every day, we’re also improving a patient’s quality of life. It doesn’t get any better than that!
Comments from Ann Pohl, Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer Cheryl has been a nurse for 40 years. While Cheryl may not have started her career at LMHS, the one thing that has been near and dear to her heart from the beginning is her passion for oncology. She started her path to oncology services in her second year of nursing, and it has remained with her ever since. Cheryl came to LMHS as an Assistant Clinical Manager for the Oncology - Med / Surgery floor 25 years ago. In those 25 years, she has taken on new opportunities and roles within the organization. Cheryl has enjoyed taking on new roles and has learned something from each of these opportunities. Some of the departments Cheryl has taken on over the years include Quality / Risk, Environmental Services, Laundry, Associate Health, Pastoral Care and Palliative Care. Not surprisingly, she has witnessed and shared many milestones with LMHS, such as the building of the Medical Park in 2001, the inaugural Journey to Remember event and the return of oncology infusion services back to our main campus. Above it all, her passion has been caring for oncology patients and providing chemo training for our nurses. After all, she has been certified in oncology for 34 years and has had just as many office moves (34 in total). Cheryl is one of those nurses who chose nursing as a true vocation, as a chance to serve others in a meaningful way through her skills, knowledge, compassion and caring. She is someone who has committed her life, her inmost gifts, abilities, passions and dreams for a broader life purpose. Lois began her career with Lima Memorial Health System 25 years ago as a third-shift medical record clerk at a time when Medical Records, now known as Health Information Management, was open 24 hours. During her time in that role, she saw the transition from admission slips and paper charts to electronic medical records. She served as a leader during this transition. In March of 2017, Lois was promoted to a medical record analyst, and she reviews all of the documentation to ensure the requirements set by The Joint Commission are met and there is a complete record. Lois offers a wealth of knowledge to the department and serves as a resource to others. Her attention to detail, positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever she is needed make her an asset, not only to the department, but to the entire organization. In her free time, Lois enjoys biking, baking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Thank you, Lois, for your continued commitment and dedication to LMHS. I’M MARRIED TO A WONDERFUL MAN AND HAVE THREE GREAT KIDS WHO ARE 25, 23 AND 20. ALSO, I HAVE TWO GRANDSONS; THEY ARE FIVE AND THREE. WE HAVE TWO HORSES, TWO DOGS AND FIVE CATS. Jodi has been working as an accounting assistant in the Accounting Department for the past 25 years, dedicating the majority of her time to everyone’s favorite thing: payroll. Jodi’s ability to remain calm while preparing 1,400 payroll checks within a two-day timeframe is astounding! However, payroll doesn’t end there. There are reconciliations, reports, withholding checks and IRS deadlines to meet. Most importantly, she’s handling personal and sensitive associate questions with care and empathy, which has earned her respect and trust from the LMHS team. Jodi has contributed skill, time, ideas, energy, and most importantly, loyalty to LMHS. I sincerely appreciate the long hours, the creativity in problem solving and the resiliency you have displayed over the last 25 years. Thank you for your dedication to LMHS!

I have enjoyed working at Lima Memorial over the years. The pharmacy is definitely a department where you are learning something new all the time. I have worked with some very talented and skilled people along the way. It has been a very rewarding job, and I have made many friends and memories throughout my years here.

Holly has been in the Inpatient Pharmacy her entire career. Holly started out when Pharmacy was on the second floor and has witnessed a lot of change in 25 years. She started her career working second shift alongside Cathy Luke, another long-term associate. Holly has been through it all in the past 25 years of Pharmacy’s evolution, from relocations and additional regulatory requirements in the IV room with compounding, to technician certifications and testing requirements. In talking with other associates in the department, they often refer to Holly as very dependable. They know her quality of work is second to none with her accuracy in filling pharmaceuticals, compounding IVs and having a general availability in covering the schedule. They can always rely on her giving her best. Associates also comment on Holly’s ability to provide a light atmosphere and keep the mood positive despite moments of chaos. She’s been a steadfast supporter in the department, working many different jobs and wearing many different hats. She is often leaned on to train newer associates, as she’ll provide them with a solid foundation and set them and the department up for success. She recently served as the department’s only buyer, and in the interim, served in between Mary Ann Moore (45-year associate) and our present buyer, Allison Raines. Holly knows no limits and is truly a versatile individual. She’s a quick study and very astute. The Pharmacy Department and Lima Memorial Health System are truly a better place based on the contributions Holly has made over the years. She brings a smile to all who work alongside her!

What Does Lima Memorial Mean to You? As I think about my response to this question, my answer would change based on when during my 30 years you are referring to. When I was first employed, Lima Memorial meant a stable job and income to help pay off college loans and bills. Then it transitioned to learning more about physical therapy and my passion for the patients in Acute Care, Rehab and eventually Pediatrics. When reflecting on what it means now, Lima Memorial has become much more than the original paycheck and experience. I became friends and family with coworkers, not only in the Physical Therapy Department, but in other departments that have supported and encouraged me as well. This awesome group has consistently been a part of my life’s celebrations as well as part of the sadness that accompanies life. Looking back, I can’t imagine having these life experiences without my Lima Memorial family. With the COVID-19 outbreak last year, we all had to make changes in how we do things and interact with those around us. The way that the Lima Memorial family has reacted to these changes demonstrates the strength and love I have been blessed to be a part of during my years here. I look forward to sharing more milestones, both personally and professionally, with my Lima Memorial family, and I thank you for the opportunity to continue to work here.
Comments from Tony Rampulla, Manager Congratulations to Kathy for reaching 30 years of service at Lima Memorial. During her time with LMHS, Kathy has represented the Physical Therapy Department in nearly every facet. Early on, she spent time working in the Inpatient Rehab Unit. Throughout her career, she transitioned from traditional PT into the outpatient pediatric setting where she serves as the face of our pediatric service line. Kathy currently treats kids and adults in the hospital, but most of her focus is through community involvement with a partnership through the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities. This agreement allows her to spend the majority of her time working remotely, either at Marimor Industries or treating children in their home setting through the Early Intervention Program. The knowledge that Kathy retains and frequently shares with her peers is meaningful and extremely constructive. She has an ability to think differently, which allows her to problem solve through the most difficult situations. Additionally, she has a natural ability to communicate with anyone and in any situation. Her personality is contagious and inviting. Kathy has and continues to be an informal leader in our department, and I could write a book about everything I have learned from Kathy, both personally and professionally. If you have any questions related to child development, physical therapy or general life questions, Kathy will certainly be a resource worth engaging with! Kim has filled different roles within the Imaging Department, including direct patient care and front office support. She has developed a keen sense of addressing patient needs. She brings this to action every day in her role as Supervisor of the Secretary and Transport teams. Kim also acts as one of the air traffic controllers for Imaging. From preparing the schedules and greeting patients to answering the dozens of daily calls that come into the department, it is Kim’s professionalism, skill and attention to detail that allow for the smooth operations of the Imaging Department.

I started working at LMHS when I was 18 as a respiratory student. I was then hired full time after graduation. I worked in Respiratory Care for 10 years. I also had the honor of being on the team that recovered the first open-heart patient in HVU. In 2000, I started as a chart analyst in Financial Services.

Angie began her career in the Respiratory Care Department as a full-time therapist. She transferred into HVU when the hospital began our Open-Heart program. She was ready to move out of patient care and work Monday through Friday first shift, so she transferred into Financial Services in 2000 into a new position to help capture lost revenue for the facility. She helped build the duties from the ground up and has expanded the role over the years. Angie is viewed by her peers and leadership as an expert and has helped in the opening and relocations of many new clinical units. Angie, I can’t believe it has been 30 years, but I am so proud that you are part of my team. Congratulations on achieving 30 years!

Ron Jones has worked at Lima Memorial as an HVAC technician for more than 35 years. He has learned a lot in his position from hands-on experience. Ron is always willing to share his expertise and training with others in the department, and he puts in the extra effort to help eliminate extra costs associated with hiring outside contractors to complete projects. Ron is always ready to help wherever he is needed. Sometimes, that means he’s at an off-site location with a department move or even crawling around in the pit to repair a leak on a hot summer’s day. Ron is also more than willing to cover open shifts on the weekends or during off-shift hours. In the winter, Ron is part of our snow removal crew that works long hours through the night to ensure our parking lots and sidewalks are clear and safe by morning. Ron demonstrates exceptional customer service to staff, visitors and patients. He goes above and beyond to make the patient’s stay at LMHS as pleasant as possible when plumbing, heating and cooling issues arise. Ron works well with staff in all of the other departments at LMHS. His knowledge also assists contractors in troubleshooting plumbing issues that arise unexpectedly. He is a pleasure to work with, and he makes every day enjoyable for our department.

It is a pleasure to have Susan as a member of our Laboratory Outreach team. Susan has a long family history with Lima Memorial, having had both of her parents work here. She has been with the Laboratory since the inception of the Laboratory Outreach Program. Susan handles customer service calls and patient registration for the Laboratory Outreach. She has a great rapport with our lab clients and works with them in a professional, caring manner. Susan is also our registration specialist with whom we consult on a regular basis. In her spare time, Susan enjoys reading, watching old movies and spending time with friends. It is a pleasure having Susan in the Laboratory Department.

Never in my 35 years have I been tested in this way, but I feel Lima Memorial’s community, family, vision and values have bolstered me to one overarching goal. Tracy started working at LMHS right out of high school in 1980 as a clerk and typist in HR, which used to be in the old School of Nursing building at the time. She remembers the building’s old architecture, creaky floors and how scary it was to visit the second floor file room and walk the tunnel between the building and the main hospital. Tracy then moved to the Cast Clinic as an orthopaedic coordinator, but left in 1982 to raise her newborn daughter. Three years later, Tracy was hired back into her previous position in the Cast Clinic. When the Cast Clinic transitioned from Nursing to PT, Tracy was cross-trained to work both the Orthopaedic Clinic and PT. Later, Tracy moved to Occupational Health as the secretary, and eventually became the secretary in Material Management in 2010. Currently, Tracy is the office coordinator for Material Management and Security. Thinking back over the years and of the memories that stand out the most, Tracy remembers the four different presidents we’ve had in that time and how people used to smoke in their office or while walking down the halls. Tracy always greets others with a smile and a kind word and is an important member of the Materials and Security teams.

I have been blessed to work at LMHS! There have been a lot of changes over the 35 years that I have worked here, and through everything, we continue to provide quality health care to the community, especially during these scary times with COVID-19. I’m so proud of my coworkers in the ER who have come together during these trying times. Above all else, LMHS is like my second home where I have made many lifetime friends! I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else!

When I started here 40 years ago, I pictured hospital nursing as just a stepping stone until I found something else. Well, that was some big stepping stone because I am still here! I have always appreciated the fact that LMHS is a family and treats their patients and associates as such. I always felt very comfortable recommending LMHS to any of my family and friends. I have also made many lifelong friendships with coworkers and former patients. The fact that I’ve stayed here this long does lend itself to feelings of loyalty, and I like to think that the family atmosphere will continue long after I’m gone.

The OB Department would like to congratulate Sue Reynolds for her 40 years of service to LMHS. Sue has spent the last 20 years of service working alongside mothers and babies in the Family Birth Center. Sue has displayed her compassion while caring for laboring moms and sick newborns. Patients are often fearful and feel they have lost control of their situation. Sue has always been able to anticipate their needs and advocate for her patients. Over the years, Sue has had the opportunity to mentor and train new nurses and pass on the lesson of skill and compassion required to be an exceptional OB nurse. Cathy Sampson started working at Lima Memorial during her senior year of high school. At that time, her mom forced her into getting a job because she only went to school for half days. Needless to say, that would set the stage for the next 40-plus years of her life. Cathy started in the Therapy Department and has held several different positions before returning four years ago. Cathy is an essential part of our team, as she is responsible for all day-to-day organizational tasks and provides a second set of hands during clinical interactions. If you have the opportunity to chat with Cathy, you will learn very quickly that she is a friend to everyone and very fun to be around. She has a personality that radiates. We really enjoy Cathy being a part of our team, and we greatly appreciate everything she has given our department and hospital.

It is amazing to think that Cindy has worked at LMHS for more than 40 years now! She has spent her nursing career caring for cardiac patients in CCU/HVU and PCU, ensuring high-quality outcomes and great patient satisfaction! Cindy loves what she does, as evidenced by her willingness to come in to help on her days off work. She is always smiling and is often found humming while she works! She often receives words of praise from her coworkers and the physicians. Our patients always remember her name, which means she has made a big impact on their care. Cindy embraces our young nurses, sharing her knowledge, mentoring and encouraging them to further their development. Many of them call her “Momma C.” She is quick and efficient while delivering highly compassionate care and is often found helping others deliver that same kind of care. Cindy has always shown huge support for our cardiac program. Years back, she even testified on the hospital’s behalf to support our need for openheart surgeries to be performed here in Lima. We are so thankful to have Cindy on our team. Her dedication to Lima Memorial is outstanding and so greatly appreciated!

When I first started here as a young nurse, I wanted to take care of patients and was eager to learn. Since an early age, I always wanted to be a nurse. I worked on a medical floor for seven years and gained so much knowledge. I then worked in Renal for the next 33 years, which I loved. I have made so many lasting friendships. I have been in a wedding, did activities with our children and went on vacations with my coworkers. I have always enjoyed working at LMHS and can’t believe it has been 40 years. I’m not that old!

Kim has blessed our organization for the past 40 years, committing to compassionate care for each patient she serves. She has spent her career in 3 South, Hemodialysis, Renal and PAT. Through each transition, she has had a team of peers and patients expressing that she made their lives better due to her care. In her interactions with patients, she spends an extra moment to connect with them, allowing her to provide the highest level of care. In speaking with Kim, she mentions that each phase of her nursing career has afforded her professional growth to better each patient interaction, and she shares that she loved each opportunity. I came to Lima Memorial during a difficult time as there were many out of work, and jobs were hard to find. I was thankful for Lima Memorial during this time. I secured a job here and started the first eight years in our surgical area. I moved on to the Facilities Department and spent the next 32 years there. Through the years, I have come to appreciate the opportunities that were given to me. Through the years, my family and I have had difficult times upon us, and Lima Memorial stepped up to help meet our needs and show us their love. I am proud to be part of such a caring group!

Jim Ward has worked at LMHS since April 1980. Jim initially started out in the OR working as a nursing assistant for eight years. In 1988, he switched career paths and moved into the Facilities Management Department where he has been a refrigeration/HVAC technician ever since. Jim’s primary responsibilities include performing preventative and routine maintenance on items such as refrigerators and freezers, ice machines, air handling units and drinking fountains, as well as making routine plumbing and mechanical repairs as needed. Whenever he is dispatched to repair equipment or improve a patient’s stay, Jim follows up afterward with staff, patients and even patient family members to ensure everyone’s satisfaction. Jim is always willing to help anywhere he is needed, whether it’s covering open weekend and after-hours shifts or plowing snow through the night during the winter. He is always reliable and willing to meet the needs of our patients and customers. Jim has an excellent rapport with coworkers, hospital staff and outside contractors. He has been a loyal team member for more than 40 years, and he is a pleasure to work with.

Her approach to incorporating computer technology into documentation, supply and inventory management, surgeonspecific preference cards and auditing practices has aided our team in maintaining fiscally responsible care.
