Happy March Happy March

2023-2024 Vice President Esosa Eguakun

The core values of key clubs are: leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. With leadership, our key club shows this value through the various service projects and activities held by our club. Through the service projects and activities, members are able to develop and showcase their leadership skills within these activities. Whether it is playing games such as gingerbread house building or doing community service such as donating menstrual products, our key club allows our members to take initiative and really show their leadership skills. Nextly, with character building our key club creates a safe space for our members to show not only their character but work on improving aspects of their character they may want to improve. Service, by its nature, already instills certain values of empathy, compassion, and integrity in individuals, traits that many people wish to have.

Through our activities, members are able to learn values of integrity and responsibility which allows them to grow as people in our club. Additionally, in my opinion, caring is the value that shines through the most with our key club. The members of our club joined because they had a genuine interest in helping others, the epitome of being caring. Through and through, key club members have shown empathy towards others both outside the club and within the club. Lastly, inclusiveness has also shown to be an important aspect of key clubs. Key club welcomes many members of different backgrounds as long as they have a devotion to service.

2023-2024 President Isabella Lininger

Election season for Key Club is something that I am very excited for. For me, I am only a junior and I am president of Key Club which means that I offer a different perspective on elections than most presidents would. While I do adore Key Club and specifically Uplift Summits Key Club, I wish to continue to pass the torch of Key leadership positions to those of a younger age. Last year because there were no elections during the school year we had to appoint those to certain positions, I seek to change that this year. I have already planned out a list of officer positions that need to be filled especially because of how large the club is. Key Club is actually the largest club inside of Uplift Summit. So, I hope that there will be more positions that continue to grow as the club does.Additionally, I have set up elections in a way to promote underclassman involvement within the club. Whenever I entered my high school career my only complaint was the lack of opportunities for freshmen to have within officer positions. Also, all of our 11th and 12th graders partake in the IB program which means that we already have a very busy schedule and oftentimes feel negatively overwhelmed in leadership positions. Because of this I really hope that the underclassmen in my club choose to participate in an officer position. I hope that more and more upperclassmen can choose to give leadership positions to those younger than us so that we don’t fail and disappoint those around us For me personally, I’m not quite sure where I will be within Key Club next year. I know that I will still be involved, but potentially not to the extent of how I am now because I want those younger than me to have this opportunity. Also, next year because I will be heavily loaded with college applications and IB testing, I don’t want to overwhelm myself. All of this will depend on how the future generations choose to carry the club on I am prepared to give necessary resources to the future Key Club officer team in order to continue the greatness of the club.

2023-2024 Historian Julian Chaparro

The biggest way that Key Club has affected me was through the volunteer work that we had to do and is something that I think has left a lifelong impact on me. Volunteering through Key Club has mainly taught me to get out of my comfort zone and to take on responsibilities that I might not initially want to take. I always thought myself as someone who couldn't do things by myself and needed help from others because of my lack of confidence and courage, however I remember one time going to volunteer at Mission Arlington for the first time and later realizing that i was actually going to be the only one going because everyone else had a last minute plan they had to attend and me not having an experience volunteering made me anxious since I had no idea what to do. Afterwards I found that it was actually very inviting and I got to meet some new people who made the experience a lot easier for me, one being coincidentally an old friend from my childhood.

There had been other volunteering opportunities that made me feel this way as well, like when I went to volunteer at a public library that was selling old and used books with one of my friends. It was still my sophomore year and me and my friend still had little knowledge on what to do but we still went anyways and had fun doing so. We talked to the people who volunteered with us and though they were much older than us, we talked about our futures and what we wanted to pursue and they gave us life advices based on their own stories. These experiences made me force myself to talk to new people and in the end it was worth it one way or another. With this I am not afraid anymore to go to a new place and talk to a stranger because instead of being scared I am now excited to know what I could learn next.

2023-2024 Treasurer/Webmaster Alexis Nguyen

Our school is a very diverse school, and I believe this diversity is reflected well within our club membership. The club membership is representative of the student body and of the populations within our school, and we are always working to create a comfortable environment for all of our members during our meetings There have been a lot of initiatives in order to include our members, other clubs, and the student body, including joint efforts with other clubs, meeting activities with cultural engagement, and an overall club environment that fosters an inclusive attitude towards our work. We have had collaboration with Beta Club and the SAAMES club, which have helped garner more student attention and inclusivity

As the school year begins to close, we are beginning to host elections for next year’s Key Club

Over the course of this year, the officers have enjoyed themselves, but we have also noticed a weakness that we can definitely improve on and address before the next year comes Because all of the officers are upperclassmen, there seemed to be some lost communication and overall disconnect with our underclassmen members, who make up for a large portion of our club. Therefore, with this coming election, we are keeping this in mind and hoping to be more inviting and inclusive of our underclassmen and have opened more positions that are underclassmen oriented.

2023-2024 Secretary Aisha Nureini

As we look at Key Club's schedule filled with fun stuff to do, we can't help but feel excited. We've got all sorts of activities planned out for our upcoming meetings, and we can't wait to get started. When we think about our next meetings, we see them as chances to hang out with friends, share ideas, and make plans together. We're ready to work as a team and make things happen. We have a really fun activity that we have planned out for our upcoming meeting.

We decided to partner with “The Wishing Crane” and as a club, we’ll be making cards as well as origami hearts. Recently we haven’t had a meeting because of everyone’s schedules but we do have one soon and we’re looking forward to accomplishing all the fun things we have planned Sure, there might be some challenges along the way, but we're not worried. With our positive attitude and determination, we know we can handle anything that comes our way. We’ve been making sure our next meeting will go smoothly.

Key club to me has always been an opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone. Since the first day I joined I felt the sense of community was really strong and everyone was encouraging all the members to participate in activities and interact with other people apart if the club. Overall there was just a lot of encouragement to try new things and that has always stuck with me as it has encouraged me to want to do more in the club.

Becoming an officer this year has been extremely rewarding for me. I feel like I get to express myself creatively as well as being able to serve my community and be apart of something bigger. It means so much to me that my actions within the club are able to influence and help people outside of the club. It means a lot to me to know that I am doing a good deed and it is able to help many more people and overall the experience is extremely rewarding and humbling.
