Embracing Change: A Journey Through Transformation and Growth
As the seasons shift, so too does our community. We watch the familiar ebb and flow, and while a part of us often resists these changes, the truth is that change is essential. Growth can’t happen in stillness—it thrives in the transitions and moments when the world around us begins to evolve.
I won’t use the old caterpillar-turned-butterfly metaphor. Still, the sentiment holds: change challenges us because it disrupts our routines, sense of comfort, and attachment to what we know. And yet, in these moments of discomfort, we find new opportunities, perspectives, and strengths.
As we prepare to say goodbye to the warmth of summer and welcome the crispness of fall, let us embrace the inevitable changes around us. In this issue, we explore the shifts happening in our surroundings and the
exciting possibilities that come with them. Change is, after all, not something to fear, but something to grow with. Dive into stories that highlight the spirit of our community, like People. Place. Purpose. Where NAMI Far North establishes the Sand Creek Clubhouse to support those in our community facing mental illness. And make sure to catch Local Activities this Season, a guide to finding adventure this fall in Sandpoint. These articles, along with much more, await you in this edition, inviting you to experience the vibrant changes of the season.
Here’s to new beginnings, growth, and the beauty of embracing what’s next.

This comprehensive focus on health and wellbeing distinguishes medical spas as true sanctuaries for rejuvenation, helping clients achieve a balanced and healthy lifestyle. The incorporation of practices such as meditation, yoga and mindfulness further supports clients’ overall wellbeing, making the experience at a medical spa not just about looking good but also feeling great from the inside out.
Finding the Perfect Med Spa: Your guide to choosing the right team
Selecting the right med spa and team is crucial for achieving your aesthetic and wellness goals. Start by researching reputable med spas with positive reviews and licensed medical professionals on staff. Schedule consultations to discuss your needs and assess their expertise. During visits, note the facility’s cleanliness and ambiance. Ask about the range of services and the technology they use, ensuring they offer FDA-approved treatments. Evaluate their personalized care approach — your med spa should tailor treatments to your unique needs and provide clear post-procedure instructions. Finally, consider the rapport with the staff. A compassionate, knowledgeable team that listens to your concerns and explains procedures clearly can make a significant difference in your med spa experience.
These minimally invasive procedures deliver natural-looking results, helping clients look and feel their best.

Clients leave with radiant, youthful skin that reflects the expertise and care provided by skilled professionals. Treatments like microneedling, PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy and customized facials are tailored to each client’s skin type and concerns, ensuring the best possible results. Regular skin assessments and adjustments to the skincare regimen ensure ongoing improvement and adaptation to changing skin needs, providing long-term benefits and healthier, more vibrant skin.
Non-Surgical
Solutions
For those seeking aesthetic improvements without surgery, medical spas provide a range of non-surgical options. Treatments like Botox, dermal fillers and body contouring allow clients to enhance their appearance without the risks and recovery time associated with surgery. These minimally invasive procedures deliver natural-looking results, helping clients look and feel their best. Advanced techniques such as thread lifts, which provide a subtle lift to sagging skin, and non-surgical rhinoplasty, offer clients more choices in their aesthetic journey. The variety of non-surgical solutions ensures that clients can achieve their desired look in a way that fits their lifestyle and comfort level, making beauty enhancements more accessible and appealing.

Leading this innovative beauty bar is Sarah Merli, a Bonner County native who has journeyed from the smalltown charm of Idaho to the vibrant beauty industry of Southern California and back, embodying a passion for excellence.
Sarah’s journey began in Bonner County, but after high school, her ambitions led her to Southern California, where she studied fashion merchandising. However, her true calling became evident as she immersed herself in the beauty industry. Joining her family’s chain of hair salons in Orange County, Sarah spent 16 years refining her craft in the fast-paced world of Southern California beauty, mastering everything from hair extensions and color services to advanced hairstyling techniques.
In 2014, after returning to Idaho with a wealth of experience and a groundbreaking concept for the area: a blow dry bar. The first-ever blow dry bar in the state was launched in Coeur d’Alene, which Sarah later sold to one of her stylists. Two years later, Sarah opened Style Bar Beauty Bar here in Sandpoint. “I saw an opportunity to bring something fresh and exciting to Idaho,” she says. “The response from the community was incredible, and it confirmed that I was on the right path.”
Style Bar Beauty Bar is much more than just a blow dry bar. It was envisioned as a full-service beauty and wellness destination, offering expert hair services,
advanced aesthetics, massage therapy, and waxing— all under one roof. This approach provides clients with a comprehensive self-care experience, leaving them feeling both beautiful and rejuvenated.
Style Bar’s commitment to excellence is evident in the professionalism and expertise of their team. Prioritizing education and continuous training, ensuring that every service, from hair extensions to skincare, is performed by a true expert. The dedication extends beyond technical skills; Style Bar values the relationships built with clients and the community, fostering an environment where trust and personal growth thrive. “For me, it’s not just about offering services; it’s about creating a space where people feel valued and cared for,” Sarah explains.
Style Bar Beauty Bar provides exceptional services and offers a curated selection of retail products, including Kevin Murphy hair products and Epionce skincare, enabling clients to maintain their beauty routines with professional-grade tools at home. Style Bar’s dedication to the community extends beyond the salon walls, as they strongly believe in giving back. Style Bar actively supports local sports teams, schools, and nonprofit organizations, reflecting a philosophy deeply woven into the fabric of the business.
As Style Bar Beauty Bar continues to grow, Sarah’s team remains committed to bringing the latest trends and techniques to North Idaho while maintaining the trust and community spirit that define their success. Holistic Healing at: Cedar Day Spa
A journey to wellness and community in Sandpoint
by PATRICE ALLEN
Cedar Day Spa in Sandpoint is more than just a place for relaxation—it’s a collaborative space where independent contractors with diverse specialties unite to deliver top-tier wellness services. Among these professionals is Shawna Butz, a dedicated Sandpoint massage therapist who has made Cedar Day Spa her professional home. Shawna’s journey to becoming a massage therapist is a testament to her commitment to holistic healthcare and her passion for helping others achieve wellness.
Shawna’s career began in a completely different field. She worked as a systems administrator in the production homebuilding industry, a demanding job that took a toll on her health. “I had chronic neck issues, migraines, and low back pain,” Shawna recalls. These challenges led her to explore yoga, eventually becoming a certified yoga teacher. However, the 2008 housing market crash prompted her to shift her focus entirely to health and wellness, leading her to pursue massage therapy to deepen her understanding of human physiology.
In 2014, Shawna completed over 800 hours of training in an accredited massage therapy program, and by 2015, she had earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Massage Therapy. With her qualifications, Shawna’s career took off. She gained experience at high-end destination resort spas in Oregon and Idaho, where she honed her skills and
worked with professional athletes. Her massage style is a unique blend of techniques, including medical-grade red light therapy, designed to help clients restore, relax, and rebalance.
In 2023, Shawna became a full-time member of Cedar Day Spa after running her private massage therapy practice for ten years. Her approach to massage is holistic, aiming to treat the whole body rather than just focusing on the myofascial system. “We’re also balancing your nervous, lymphatic, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems,” she explains. For Shawna, massage is about restoring the body’s natural balance and helping clients achieve optimal health.
At Cedar Day Spa, Shawna offers a massage experience that combines therapeutic benefits with luxury spa elements, ensuring an atmosphere of tranquility. Her studio has a state-of-the-art ADA-accessible therapeutic table that decompresses and relaxes the spine, placing clients in a neutral position. She also uses a BioMat, a far-infrared heating mat filled with amethyst and tourmaline crystals, which helps reduce pain and inflammation, increase circulation, and neutralize free radicals. Shawna is committed to using only the purest products, like her handcrafted organic massage butter because she believes in treating the skin with the same care as the rest of the body. “I use products as pure as possible,” she emphasizes.
The most rewarding part of Shawna’s work is the therapeutic relationships she builds with her clients.
“One in five Americans experiences chronic pain. My goal is to empower people to feel better in their bodies,” she says. Shawna’s dedication to her clients goes beyond the massage session itself—she follows up to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment and adjusts her approach based on their feedback.
Cedar Day Spa, where Shawna practices, is a cooperative that stands out in the local wellness community. The team of independent contractors includes Missy Giffin, Brooke Spencer, Jenna Spencer, Lorainne Gee, and Allison Worley. Each member brings unique skills and specialties, creating a well-rounded offering for their clients. The team is not just a group of professionals; they are friends who support each other in their shared mission to provide personalized care. “Here, you’re treated like a person—not just an appointment,” Shawna says, reflecting the spa’s commitment to its clients.
Shawna moved to Sandpoint in 2018 from Bend, Oregon, to be closer to her parents. She has since become deeply connected to the community. “I love how this community shows up for each other. That is something really special and rare,” she notes. Outside of her work, Shawna and her family embrace the adventurous lifestyle that Sandpoint offers, from snowboarding and snowmobiling to hiking and paddleboarding.
For Shawna, Cedar Day Spa is not just a place to practice massage therapy; it’s a community where she can share her passion for holistic healthcare and help her clients achieve a better quality of life. Through her work, Shawna contributes not only to the wellness of her clients but also to the close-knit fabric of the Sandpoint community.
People. Place. Purpose.
NAMI FAR NORTH ESTABLISHES SAND CREEK CLUBHOUSE TO SUPPORT THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITY SUFFERING WITH MENTAL ILLNESS
Established in 2007 and serving both Bonner and Boundary counties, NAMI Far North is one of more than 1,000 affiliates of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in the United States, founded in 1979 by two mothers discussing the challenges of raising children with schizophrenia.
As a 100 percent volunteer-based organization, NAMI Far North aims to improve the lives of those affected by mental illness through resources, support groups and community programs, focusing on: 1) Advocacy for individuals and families affected by mental illness; 2) Education about mental health conditions; 3) Support for those living with mental illness and their families; and 4) Raising public awareness to reduce stigma.
They are currently working to establish Sand Creek Clubhouse, Idaho’s first Clubhouse International facility for mental health recovery right here in Sandpoint.
As Dr. Dawn Mehra, president of NAMI Far North, states, “NAMI Far North is crucial because it provides unique, experience-based support and education through NAMItrained, data-driven programs. It fills critical knowledge gaps and provides coping and communication skills that providers can’t often address due to time limitations. It promotes recovery and reduces stigma, creates a supportive community for those affected, and bridges service gaps in mental health care.”
She goes on to share, “When people find NAMI, they often breathe an audible sigh of relief, realizing they’re not alone. This personal connection provides hope and practical help to those impacted by mental health conditions.”
NAMI Far North has served thousands of individuals over the last decade through support groups, educational programs and awareness initiatives. Not only do these programs aim to help individuals living with mental health conditions but their families and the broader community. The Sand Creek Clubhouse will serve as another initiative in allowing NAMI Far North to serve the community.
The vision of Sand Creek Clubhouse emerged from Dawn and her family’s own experience. “When our son, who lives with serious mental illness, was discharged from the state hospital in Orofino, we discovered a critical lack of ongoing rehabilitation services for continued recovery,” she explains. “Patients like our son require rehabilitation services — essential physical therapy for the brain — for months, if not years. As two working parents, we scrambled to find the right help, feeling under skilled and underfunded. Through NAMI, we learned this was a common problem for many families. Our search for solutions led us to discover Clubhouse International, inspiring the vision to establish a local clubhouse to address this crucial need in our community.”
The clubhouse, which is on course to open late fall of 2024, is located at 513 North Fourth Avenue in downtown Sandpoint. This central location was chosen for its proximity to medical services, community amenities, and accessibility via the SPOT bus route, to ensure easy access for members from various parts of the community. Membership is free for life, and members will run the clubhouse themselves.
The initial funding comes from a combination of sources, including support from NAMI Far North, individual donations and ongoing grant applications. Once operational, Medicaid reimbursements will cover approximately 80 percent of Sand Creek Clubhouse’s costs. Currently, Sand Creek Clubhouse still needs about $50,000 before Clubhouse launch to fully realize its vision. For those interested in supporting Sand Creek Clubhouse or learning more, contact NAMI Far North at 208.290.1768 or Info@namifarnorth.org, or visit NAMIFarNorth.org/clubhouse for donation options and information.
Mark your calendars for the upcoming fundraising event NAMI Walks on October 5, where your support can make a significant difference in bringing this vital resource to the community, improving the lives of those affected by mental illness.
“When people find NAMI, they often breathe an audible sigh of relief, realizing they’re not alone. This personal connection provides hope and practical help to those impacted by mental health conditions.”
Joel’s Mexican Restaurant: A Community Cornerstone
FAMILY, FLAVOR AND COMMUNITY SINCE 1995
by DREW
Joel’s Mexican Restaurant in Sandpoint, Idaho, has been a community staple for nearly three decades. Joel Sr. moved his family from San Diego and opened the restaurant in 1995. In doing so, he started a family business that would eventually become a community hub. It’s a restaurant, yes, but Joel Sr. brought his experience as a chef, addicted to Mexican flavors from growing up along the southern border, to craft a place for people to enjoy not only a home-cooked meal but also a place to catch up on local news and the sports scene. Joel Sr., and his children Veronica and Joel Jr., and their family now run the place as intended – as a family affair for the community.
Joel’s story began here with an idea and a dedication to hard work. His father had a saying: “If I’m going to work my hardest for an employer, I might as well work that hard for myself.” Joel’s dad (Joel Sr.) had cooked up the idea of building something, and his sights were on a restaurant that serves large portions of hot, fresh, homemade Mexican food at affordable prices. With a menu packed with flavor and meals starting under $8, Joel Sr.’s dream has become a reality. This is not just another restaurant; this is a local hangout, a family place, and a regular spot where regulars become friends.
When Joel Jr. isn’t running the family business, he works and volunteers in the community. He has also served on the City
Council for the past seven years, “It’s because of the restaurant that I’ve been able to get to know the community, and they’ve got to know me, and that was a big part of me being elected to City Council for two terms. This is one way I can give back to everyone who has supported me and my family. I love serving the community this way.”
In addition to his council work, Joel Jr. has been coaching basketball for 14 years and Kickstart soccer for 2- to 4-yearolds with his wife for the past eight years. Together, they have organized the 7B PEAK Youth Triathlon for the past two years, with over 100 young participants. As a result, Joel Jr. and his wife have dedicated their efforts to supporting local youth initiatives, reflecting their commitment to the community’s youngest members.
“We’re people, people,” Joel Jr. says. “Some places excel at the art of gourmet dining and intricate presentations, which we respect and appreciate. But here, we’re all about keeping it simple. You won’t see any bow ties. This is a walk-up-andorder joint, and we want you to feel at home.” The heart of this place lies in its familiar faces, local conversations, and the sense of community. It’s about watching kids grow up, seeing them come in with their parents, and later bringing in their children. That’s what matters—feeding families and creating lasting memories.

Q&A with Robert Poutre PA-C
Agraduate of Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, where he attended graduate school/ physician associate school, and after receiving his board certification, Dr. Robert Poutre worked for a large orthopedic group in Minnesota, focusing mostly on hand/upper extremity. He missed living in a small town and moved to Sandpoint to be near family, where he joined the orthopedic team at Bonner General Health in 2021.
What sparked your interest in orthopedics?
I initially developed an interest in orthopedics while I was working in the Emergency Department. I became interested in hand injuries and how they are treated, and how impactful an injury can be on your life. It doesn’t matter if you are a hand surgeon or a laborer, your hands are your livelihood. Being able to help people get back to their occupation, hobbies, or even just a functional life, is very important. I want to be involved in that and work with them to achieve that outcome.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
My workday is typically either surgery or seeing a wide variety of patients in our clinic. Patient visits range from patients who are brand new to our office, to patients I have been treating for some time, to postoperative or preoperative patients and new acute injuries.
What types of procedures and surgeries are performed by the team at Bonner General Orthopedics (BGO)?
Our orthopedic team treats a wide spectrum of conditions, from common problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, to osteoarthritis, to sports injuries and complex orthopedic trauma. Our orthopedic
service and treatments can vary from outpatient clinic treatment to surgical management, and everything in between. A patient may want counseling and education, or a knee injection for their knee arthritis, or they may be interested in knee replacement, for example, and our team manages all of that, and more.
What is a common yet unknown service BGO provides?
A common service we offer in-house and perform regularly is hyaluronic acid injection for knee arthritis. These injections are often performed as an alternative, or adjunct, to steroid injections, and can help a patient continue doing the activities they enjoy. Sometimes these injections can provide enough symptomatic relief that a patient may be able to hold off on a knee replacement for a longer period of time, if that is their goal.
Do patients need a referral to see you?
Patients are welcome to see me without a referral from their regular doctor, and I see new, and established, patients every day that I am in the clinic. Our staff is great at guiding patients to the provider who will serve them best.
What do you enjoy most about working in this community and the patients you treat?
We are very fortunate to live in the area that we live in, and one of the things I enjoy most about my job is helping patients get back to the activities they love. Whether you are a young athlete with a sports injury, you are retired and ski 100 days per year, or you want to get back into golf or kayaking, for example, our team is here to work with you to make that happen. Helping patients get back to all of the wonderful things our community and area has to offer is one of the fulfilling aspects of my job.

Remove Dead and Diseased Plants: Clear out any dead or diseased plants from your garden to prevent pests and diseases from overwintering. Compost healthy plant debris but dispose of any diseased material to avoid contamination.
Mulch Your Garden Beds: Apply a layer of mulch to your garden beds to protect the soil during the winter months. Mulching helps regulate soil temperature, retain moisture and prevent erosion.
Prune Perennials and Shrubs: Trim back perennials and prune shrubs to tidy up the garden and encourage healthy growth in the spring. Focus on removing dead or damaged branches and shaping plants as needed.

Hosting the Perfect Thanksgiving
A guide to a memorable feast
Hosting the perfect Thanksgiving is all about planning, preparation, and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere for your guests. Start by setting a thoughtful guest list and sending out invitations early to ensure everyone can attend. Once you have a headcount, plan your menu, balancing traditional favorites like turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce with a few unique dishes to surprise and delight your guests. Consider dietary restrictions and preferences to accommodate all your guests comfortably.
Preparation is key to a smooth Thanksgiving day. Make a detailed shopping list and shop early to avoid last-minute stress. Prepare as many dishes as possible in advance — pies, casseroles and side dishes can often be made a day or two ahead. On the day of the feast, create a cooking schedule to ensure everything is ready at the same time. Assign tasks to family members or friends willing to help, such as setting the table, managing drinks or watching over the kids.
Setting the scene is equally important. Decorate your home with seasonal touches such as autumn leaves, pumpkins and candles to create a cozy, festive atmosphere. Arrange your dining table thoughtfully, with plenty of space for each guest and a beautiful centerpiece to set the tone.

Consider creating personalized place cards for a special touch that shows your guests how much you appreciate their presence.
As your guests arrive, greet them with a warm welcome and perhaps a seasonal cocktail or mocktail. Encourage mingling with light appetizers before the main meal. During dinner, facilitate engaging conversations by sharing what you’re thankful for, and inviting others to do the same. This tradition not only brings warmth to the gathering but also fosters a sense of community and gratitude.
Don’t forget the importance of hospitality. Ensure everyone feels at home, attend to any needs promptly, and most importantly, enjoy the company and the celebration. Have a plan for post-dinner activities, whether it’s watching a favorite movie, playing board games or simply enjoying a cup of coffee or tea together.
With thoughtful planning, a festive atmosphere and a spirit of gratitude, your Thanksgiving gathering will be memorable for all the right reasons. By focusing on both the details and the overall experience, you can create a celebration that your guests will cherish and remember fondly.

Back to School
The importance of a steady routine
As school resumes, establishing a consistent routine is crucial for children’s success and well-being. A structured schedule helps students manage their time effectively, reducing stress and enhancing their ability to balance academic responsibilities with extracurricular activities and relaxation. Regular sleep patterns ensure they are well-rested, improving concentration and performance in school. Consistent meal times provide the necessary energy for active learning and participation. Moreover, a steady routine fosters a sense of security and stability, essential for emotional and mental health, especially during the transition back to school. Parents can support this by setting specific times for homework, leisure and chores, and by maintaining open communication about their children’s daily experiences and challenges. Encouraging a regular routine not only boosts academic performance but also helps children develop essential life skills such as time management and self-discipline, setting a foundation for long-term success.

Retirees must identify and manage income sources FINANCIAL FOCUS®
During your working years, you know where your income is coming from because you’re working. But once you retire, you’ll have to identify your income sources, know how much you can expect from them and know how to manage them to help support a retirement that could last two or three decades.
So, where will your retirement income come from? And what decisions will you need to make about these income sources?
Consider the following:
• Retirement Accounts - If you’ve regularly contributed to an IRA and a 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan, you likely have accumulated substantial amounts of money in these accounts — but during your retirement, you’ll need to start tapping into them. In fact, once you turn 73, you’re required to start taking withdrawals from some of your retirement accounts, with the amount determined by your age and account balance. You could take out more than these amounts (technically called required minimum distributions, or RMDs), but you can’t take less without incurring penalties. Many people take out 4 percent of their balance each year, and this guideline may be reasonable, but everyone’s situation is different. So, you’ll need to weigh various factors including your age, health and other sources of income before deciding on an appropriate withdrawal rate.
• Social Security - You can start collecting Social Security at age 62, but your payments will be much higher if you wait until your full retirement age, which will be between 66 and 67. And your benefits will reach the maximum amount if you wait until 70 before collecting.
So, your decision on when to take your benefits will depend on whether you can afford to wait, and for how long. In making this choice, you’ll also need to consider your health and your family history of longevity. And if you’re married, you may want to factor in spousal benefits when deciding when you should collect Social Security. A spouse can receive either their own benefit, based on their work record, or up to 50 percent of their spouse’s benefit, whichever is greater. So, if one spouse has a much higher benefit, it may make sense for that spouse to delay taking Social Security as long as possible so that both spouses can receive bigger payments.
• Earned Income - Even if you have retired from one career, it doesn’t mean you can never receive any earned income again. If you have specific skills that can translate to part-time work or a consulting arrangement, you might want to consider reentering the workforce in this way. With the added income, you might be able to afford delaying Social Security, and you would still be eligible to contribute to an IRA.
• Supplemental Lifetime Income - There aren’t many guarantees in the financial and investment worlds — but one of them is the income from a fixed annuity, which can be structured to provide you with a lifetime income stream. Annuities aren’t for everyone, however, and they do involve penalties for early withdrawals and lack of protection from inflation.
By learning all you can about your potential retirement income sources, and by understanding how to manage this income to your best advantage, you can help yourself achieve a comfortable — and more rewarding — retirement.
7B Energy Wellness Center: Empowering Self-Healing
Cutting-edge wellness technology in Ponderay, Idaho
Located in the serene town of Ponderay, Idaho, the 7B Energy Wellness Center stands out with its unique approach to health and healing. Situated at 30410 Hwy 200, Ste 200A, this pioneering wellness center is the vision of Susan Bowman, a passionate advocate for self-healing through advanced technology. Opening on February 1, 2024, 7B Energy Wellness Center is part of a global network of over 400 Energy Enhancement Centers (EES), each dedicated to helping individuals harness the power of their bodies to heal naturally.
Susan’s journey into the world of energy wellness is deeply personal. For two decades, she battled
by ELIZABETH RAY
with little to no success. Her turning point came in December 2022, when she experienced her first session at an EES center. “I was surprised when I walked out of that EES center after only a 2-hour session without my all-over body pain,” she recalls. This remarkable experience sparked her determination to bring this healing technology to her community. By April 2023, she was fully committed to opening her center, driven to offer others the same life-changing relief she had found.
At the heart of 7B Energy Wellness Center is the Energy Enhancement System (EES), a technology designed to empower the body’s natural healing processes. Developed by Dr.
and photons to charge the body’s cells, enabling them to function optimally. Susan explains, “The EE System does not heal you, but rather it gives your trillions of cells a millivolt charge so that your body can do what it does best—heal itself.”
The center’s 24-unit EE System setup offers a unique environment where clients can relax and allow their bodies to rejuvenate. The system creates a toroidal energy field in the room, which clients absorb through their skin and breath. This energy field stimulates the body’s cells, promoting detoxification, oxygenation, and overall healing. “Most people fall asleep in our super comfortable power recliners,” Susan notes, emphasizing the system’s ability to induce a deep relaxation conducive to healing.
The results clients have experienced at the center are nothing short of extraordinary, providing a glimpse into the new healthcare and the future of health. Testimonials from around the world, as well as from local clients, reveal improvements in conditions ranging from chronic pain and autoimmune disorders to epilepsy, cancer, and even neurological conditions like autism and Parkinson’s disease. “There is nothing that your body cannot heal,” Susan states confidently, highlighting the system’s ability to address a wide range of health issues.
Susan’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that the body has an innate ability to heal itself, a concept she summarizes with the phrase, “The Power that made the body heals the body.” She is critical of the modern reliance on pharmaceuticals, which she believes often do more harm than good by toxifying the body. Instead, she advocates for a holistic approach to health that empowers individuals to take control of their well-being by addressing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health.
At 7B Energy Wellness Center, clients are encouraged to actively participate in their healing process, discovering ways to heal themselves in every session. The center offers EES sessions and education on detoxification, nutrition, and stress management. Weekly meditation and breathwork classes are available, with plans to expand into yoga and other community activities. Susan believes that individuals can achieve true healing and thrive rather than merely survive by taking responsibility for their health.
For Susan, the most rewarding aspect of her work is seeing the transformation in her clients. “I love seeing the difference in people’s faces from when they go into the EE room and when they come out,” she says. Her dedication to helping others heal is evident in every aspect of 7B Energy Wellness Center, making it a beacon of hope and healing in the heart of Ponderay.

FALL SUPERFOODS TO KEEP YOU HEALTHY
by PATRICE ALLEN
As the leaves change color and the air turns crisp, our bodies need a robust immune system to fend off the seasonal colds and flu. The transition from summer to fall brings a plethora of nutrientrich foods that can enhance our immunity. Incorporating these fall superfoods into your diet can help you stay healthy and energized during the colder months.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin is a quintessential fall favorite and a powerhouse of nutrition. Rich in vitamins A and C, pumpkin boosts immune function by supporting the production of white blood cells, which are essential for fighting infections. Vitamin A, derived from the beta-carotene in pumpkins, plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our skin, acting as the first line of defense against pathogens.
The high fiber content in pumpkin aids digestion, promoting a healthy gut environment that is essential for optimal immune function. The antioxidants present in pumpkin, such as alphacarotene and beta-carotene, protect your cells from free radicals and reduce inflammation. Enjoy pumpkin in soups, roasted as a side dish, or even in smoothies, for a delicious and immuneboosting treat. Pumpkin seeds are also beneficial as they contain zinc, another nutrient that supports immune health.
Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are another fall staple that is packed with betacarotene, a precursor to vitamin A. This nutrient is vital for maintaining healthy skin and mucous membranes, which act as barriers against infections. Sweet potatoes also contain vitamin C, manganese and antioxidants that further enhance your immune system. The fiber in sweet potatoes supports digestive health, ensuring a well-functioning gut, which is crucial for overall immune health.
The antioxidants in sweet potatoes, including anthocyanins in purple varieties, have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases and support immune health. Sweet potatoes are incredibly versatile and can be baked, mashed or used in stews to take full advantage of their health benefits. Their natural sweetness also makes them a comforting and nutritious addition to fall meals.
Pomegranates
Pomegranates are in season during the fall and are renowned for their high levels of antioxidants, particularly vitamin C and polyphenols. These compounds help protect your immune cells from damage and support overall immune function. Vitamin C, a potent antioxidant, stimulates the production of white blood cells and helps them function more effectively, thereby enhancing the body’s ability to fight infections.
Pomegranate juice or seeds can be added to salads, yogurt, drinks, or enjoyed on their own for a tangy, health-boosting snack. The antioxidants in pomegranates also reduce inflammation and support cardiovascular health by improving cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Pomegranates have been shown to have antiviral properties, making them an excellent addition to your diet during cold and flu season. Enjoy the sweet-tart flavor and the numerous health benefits of this vibrant fruit.

If you are struggling with urinary incontinence or leaky bladder, High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) therapy is a non-invasive and effective treatment for urinary incontinence that may be the answer you are looking for.

Garlic is a natural immune booster known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties. It contains allicin, a compound that enhances the response of white blood cells to fight off infections. Incorporating garlic into your meals can help protect against colds and flu. Allicin is released when garlic is crushed or chopped, so let it sit for a few minutes before cooking to maximize its health benefits.
Garlic also supports cardiovascular health by reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels, further contributing to overall well-being. Use garlic in soups, stews or roasted vegetables to add flavor and health benefits. The pungent aroma and taste of garlic not only enhance your meals but also provide significant health advantages.
Incorporating these fall superfoods into your diet can significantly boost your immune system and keep you healthy during the colder months. Embrace the season by enjoying the rich flavors and nutritional benefits these foods have to offer. Stay well, and enjoy the beauty and bounty of fall!
VITAMIN C, A POTENT ANTIOXIDANT, STIMULATES THE PRODUCTION OF WHITE BLOOD CELLS AND HELPS THEM FUNCTION MORE EFFECTIVELY, THEREBY ENHANCING THE BODY’S ABILITY TO FIGHT INFECTIONS.
