Summer may be short in Bonner and Boundary Counties, but the last 30 days have brought on the heat. Sellers are lowering temperatures on pricing, and buyers are striking deals before the forecast shifts again. More homes and land have sold compared to the previous month, but sellers should pack a little patience closings are taking about a month longer to reach the nish line. Home sales volume climbed 20% over the previous month. The median home price nudged up to $650,000, a modest 2% rise. Mortgage rates remain steady, and homes are closing in about 96 days. Cash buyers made up 36% of sales, and VA loan activity continues to rise. Veterans — congratulations on your new homes and Thank You for your service to our country. The land market also saw a change in weather patterns. More parcels sold, but lowerpriced oﬀerings pulled the median down to $209,500, a 16% drop from the previous month. The silver lining? Lending options for land are expanding, including owner nancing. Half of last month’s land sales were funded by loans, and cash covered the remaining 50% of dirt deals. Q. What led you to open Realize Physical Therapy in Sandpoint, and what did you want to do differently from a traditional physical therapy setting? A. Sandpoint is a very special area. The people, environment, and culture are amazing, and there is a push for healthy living and staying active. I created this clinic to move beyond traditional expectations of physical therapy and give the community a team that uses the most advanced techniques and tools. Our patients constantly tell us it’s not what they expected. Q. You created the Neural Fascial Systems approach used at Realize. How is it different from physical therapy patients may have tried before? A. Neural Fascial Systems puts a premium on the why. We do not stop at identifying a weak or tight muscle like the hamstrings. If you’ve strengthened and stretched without improvement, or the problem keeps coming back, something else is going on. Our unique assessment helps us find those hidden pieces, which makes any treatment more effective.

Q. Realize focuses on finding what is actually driving a patient's pain or movement limitations. What does that process look like during an evaluation? A. We start with an in-depth review of where the problem started, not just when the pain started. Then we look at posture, movement, and strength to determine where we feel the problem is located. Last, we use our hands to better understand how the body is moving and reacting. The result is identifying not just the cause, but how the whole body affects it. Q. What are the most common issues you see patients come in with, and what are people surprised physical therapy can help with?

It's not in your head, and failed treatment doesn't mean you have to live with your pain. We want people to know that, to help them get on the right track, we offer a free, noobligation Discovery Visit where we can discuss their individual situation and fill in the gaps.

A. We help people who are struggling with pain and movement issues, especially when they begin interfering with activities they enjoy. If they’re struggling with work, getting back on the trail, skiing down the mountain, or just getting through housework, we can help. People are often most surprised by what is actually contributing to their pain, such as an old injury, surgery, or an issue elsewhere in the body. Q. What led you to add a pelvic floor program at Realize, and who's been driving it? A. We have had many of our patients need pelvic floor support and we were unable to find a treatment approach that addressed them in the way we needed them to be addressed. To solve this, we combined traditional pelvic floor treatment with the Neural Fascial Systems approach. Thanks to the work of our therapist, Annie Hadley, we have been able to create an amazing program. She’s been incredible in how much she has poured into this program. It’s not just needed for our work in pain and movement, but the program is also able to help

For sellers considering a move before spring, it creates an interesting window. Selling in October is not necessarily about reaching the most buyers; it's about presenting a property clearly while buyers can still see the land, access, and exterior condition. It's also the time when those hoping to own in North Idaho before winter hits are making their decisions. Sandpoint does not always follow the traditional real estate calendar. Second-home buyers, people relocating from other states, and buyers seeking access to skiing, boating, and yearround recreation often decide based on lifestyle timing rather than the spring selling season alone. That makes snow arrives.

Driveways, drainage, roofing, gutters, decks, and exterior maintenance are easier for buyers to evaluate when they are still visible. Rural access can become a bigger part of the conversation once winter conditions set in. A property that feels straightforward to reach and maintain in October can leave buyers with more confidence heading into colder months. For acreage, lake, or mountain properties, October may be the last chance to photograph trails, outbuildings, shoreline, and other exterior features before snow changes the landscape. Inside the property, the focus shifts too. Buyers pay closer attention to how a home functions in colder weather. Heating systems, fireplaces, insulation, mudrooms, 20

Warm lighting, clean windows, trimmed landscaping, and a clear entry make the home feel cared for without turning the showing into a seasonal display. The goal is to help buyers picture living there comfortably when winter arrives. Pricing still outweighs timing alone. A property listed in October has to compete on value just like it would in any other month. Sellers who price based on recent Bonner County activity, recent comparable sales, and their home's condition are in a stronger position than those pricing around what the property might have commanded during peak summer activity. This is where local market knowledge matters. Conditions can vary between Sandpoint neighborhoods, rural Bonner County properties, waterfront homes, and homes closer to Schweitzer. The right strategy for one property may make little sense for another. Sellers should consider how winter affects showings if a property remains on the market. Snow removal, driveway maintenance, exterior access, and travel conditions can all become part of the selling process. Preparing those systems early can make the home easier to show and easier for a buyer to understand. Waiting until spring may still be the right decision for some homeowners. Spring often brings a larger pool of buyers, but it can also bring more competing listings. October offers something different. It gives sellers a chance to show the property before winter covers important details, while buyers considering a move to North Idaho can still evaluate how the home, land, and access will work through the coming season. 100 MILES of Faith

A wooden cross travels from Athol to Spokane by LIKE MEDIA TEAM

efore sunrise on July 31, participants gathered outside the Super 1 grocery store in Athol, Idaho, preparing to begin a journey unlike any previous Cross Walk organized by Christ Fit Gym CDA.

At 4:04 am, they started walking. Over the next day and a half, the group carried a wooden cross across North Idaho and into Washington, praying together, talking with people they met, and pushing through heat, smoke, fatigue, and little sleep. By the time the Cross Walk reached Coeur d'Alene at 6:15 pm Saturday, the cross had traveled 100 miles. For owners Robbie and Yvonne Walden, the distance was significant, but never the point. "The Cross Walk exists to challenge and unite the church to reach the lost," Robbie says. The event brings believers together to carry the cross while sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The walk is intentionally difficult, designed to push participants beyond what feels comfortable physically and personally. This year marked the event's biggest evolution yet. The original 100-mile Cross Walk began 12 years ago in Bossier City, Louisiana, through Billy Weatherall, Robbie's best friend

and former Army teammate, at the first Christ Fit Gym. A second Cross Walk began in Edmond, Oklahoma, five years ago. Robbie and Yvonne brought the concept to Idaho in 2021 with a 33-mile Cross Walk in Hailey. After relocating to Hayden that year, they continued the event as the 33-mile Coeur d'Alene Cross Walk in 2022. For 2026, the 33-mile event became the Idaho-to-Washington 100-mile Cross Walk. The route began in Athol, continued through Rathdrum and Post Falls, and crossed into Washington on the Centennial Trail through Liberty Lake and Spokane Valley before turning around in Spokane. On the return trip, the group passed back through Post Falls and stopped at The Heart in Coeur d'Alene at 9 am for the church's all-church prayer gathering. From there, participants continued to Lake Coeur d'Alene, where nine baptisms took place, then headed to Christ Fit Gym CDA in Dalton Gardens. The final stretch ended back at The Heart, where participants carried the cross into the worship portion of Saturday evening's service. Approximately 150 people participated. Nine completed the entire 100-mile journey. Completing all 100 miles is not required. Participants can join for whatever portion they can walk.

A support vehicle stayed with the cross the entire route, while a shuttle moved people between the walk, Athol, Coeur d'Alene, and other pickup points, with drivers rotating shifts for more than 36 hours. Coordinating that support begins about six months before the Cross Walk, with Robbie and Yvonne dividing most of the work behind the scenes. Yvonne handles the details that keep everyone fed, hydrated, and supported. She lines up food, drinks, and medical supplies months in advance, stays in steady contact with volunteers, builds out the driver schedule, and takes her own overnight shifts behind the wheel of the shuttle van. Robbie focuses on the walk itself. He maps the route, completes practice runs beforehand to work out any problems, lines up sponsors and participating churches, and walks with the group for the entire 100 miles. Participants traveled from Louisiana, Oklahoma, eastern and western Washington, and throughout Idaho. Several churches participated in or supported the event: The Heart in Coeur d'Alene, The Dwelling Place in Rathdrum, Well Springs of Life in Post Falls, and On Fire Ministries in Spokane. Local sponsors included Relentless Land Services, Country Boy Café, and Trailhead Print Shop. Representatives from Christ Fit Gym locations in Idaho, Oklahoma, and Louisiana worked together to make sure the cross completed all 100 miles. Physically, the challenge was substantial. Participants walked for extended periods without sleep as the pace grew harder to hold. Temperatures were high, and wildfire smoke added strain along parts of the route. "Attempting to walk 100 miles without sleep isn't as easy as one would think," Robbie says. Yet the moments that stayed with him most had little to do with mileage. In the middle of the night in Spokane, the group met a young man outside his home. Robbie began talking with him about the Gospel, and the man decided to walk along. For about an hour, they talked about faith and worked through his questions about the Bible. Robbie says the man decided to give his life to Jesus. "That is why we do it," he says. "If one person gives their life to Jesus because we walked 100 miles, then it was all worth it."

Carrying a cross through cities, neighborhoods, and public trails draws attention, and reactions vary. Some people honk, cheer, or stop to pray. Others are less receptive. Sometimes, someone simply decides to help. This year, people brought participants socks, food, and snacks. One man left the interstate to find the group after seeing a newspaper article about the walk, bringing a copy along with his thanks. Throughout the route, Robbie says participants experienced conversations, prayers, devotionals, and moments of repentance and forgiveness. By the final miles, participants were tired, emotional, and grateful. For Robbie, the difficulty is part of what gives the Cross Walk meaning, asking people to sacrifice comfort, time, and physical energy for something they believe matters more than the distance itself. That philosophy reflects the larger mission of Christ Fit Gym CDA, a donation-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit where membership and workouts are free, with a mission to unite the church, equip believers, and reach people through exercise, community events, and faith. "We share the Gospel through exercise and events," Robbie says. That work is expanding beyond its Dalton Gardens location at 7736 N. Government Way. In June, Christ Fit Gym began offering community workouts in Athol through its mobile gym every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 am. Robbie and Yvonne hope those workouts lead to a permanent Christ Fit Gym location in Athol. The organization is raising donations toward a building it has under contract. Plans for the next Cross Walk are already taking shape. Robbie hopes to establish a larger planning team that can begin preparations nine months before the event and grow participation in the years ahead. His long-term goal is to see people travel from around the world to participate in the North Idaho Cross Walk, and someday reach 1,000 walkers. For Robbie, the Cross Walk is an extension of his own faith. "The greatest thing I've ever done was give my life to Jesus," he says. "My only regret is that I didn't give my life to Him sooner." He points to Romans 6:23 and Romans 5:8 as verses that have shaped that belief, centered on salvation through Christ and God's love. He hopes participants carry that same message beyond the 100 miles. "A fire to love God and His people, to evangelize and to be ok with being uncomfortable," he says. After 100 miles, hundreds of conversations, and more than a day spent carrying the cross across two states, that willingness to become uncomfortable may be the clearest expression of what the Cross Walk was created to accomplish.

Being named Athlete of the Month means something specific to him. "It's an honor to be selected, and it shows what hard work and dedication can lead to," he says. This season, Iverson has focused on becoming more confident and consistent at quarterback, putting extra work into his footwork and time in the weight room. He's proud of what he's accomplished so far, but he's staying focused on continuing to improve. His preparation starts well before kickoff. Iverson watches film from Sandpoint's previous games to settle his nerves, then studies upcoming opponents to know what to expect. He also visualizes plays and works through his reads before stepping onto the field.

When games get tough, he focuses on what he can control. "There's always another play and another opportunity to make something happen," he says. He also makes a point of bringing energy to his teammates and keeping everyone moving forward. His parents have played the biggest role in his development, taking him to camps, pushing him in the gym, and encouraging him to keep improving. Away from football, Iverson enjoys snowboarding and spending time outdoors. For the rest of the season, he's focused on helping Sandpoint go as far as possible. Beyond high school, he hopes to continue playing football at the college level. "Give it your all," he says. "If I care about something, I want to give it my best effort and know I did everything I could."

The girls host Lewiston October 3 in their final scheduled regular-season match. Football returns to War Memorial Field October 2 against Moscow at 7 pm. The Bulldogs are off October 9, the only open Friday on the October schedule. Lewiston comes to town October 16 for the final home game of the regular season, then the Bulldogs close at Lakeland October 23. Volleyball carries a busy October slate. Ending Hunger, Bite-by-Bite: Bonner Community Food Bank Benefit October 10, 2026 Ending Hunger, Bite-by-Bite returns to the Bonner County Fairgrounds on October 10 from 5 to 8 pm, raising support for the Bonner Community Food Bank as it prepares to move into a larger facility in Ponderay. Small plates from local restaurants anchor the evening, alongside silent and live auctions, a paddle raise, and new games this year. Confirmed restaurants include 113 Main, Baxter's, Beet and Basil, Flavors of Phoenicia, Marigold Bistro, Opa, Spuds Waterfront Grill, Sweet Lou's, The Bank, Ponderay Winery and The District, with more still being added. The event also supports the food bank's growth, now serving about 3,100 households a month in Bonner County, up from 1,800 in 2021. General admission tickets run $45. A new $75 VIP ticket adds a shuttle to the Ponderay facility ahead of the main event, where board members lead a private tour before guests return for wine, charcuterie, and early entry. Businesses can also sponsor the event, with levels ranging from $250 to $10,000, or donate items for the silent auction. Organizers have set a $100,000 goal to cover food purchases, programs, and costs associated with preparing the Ponderay building, including roof repairs, parking lot paving, and relocating walk-in coolers and freezers. Sandpoint had been promised a federal building way back in 1913, when Congress set aside $70,000 for one. L. D. Farmin offered lots at Second and Alder, the government picked them in 1916—and then, for ten years, not much happened. War, high prices, and a sour postwar economy had a way of making Washington promises sound hollow. By 1926, prosperity had returned and Uncle Sam finally dusted off the plans. The first building proved too expensive, so the Treasury Department sharpened its pencil and made it smaller. Minneapolis contractor W. D. Lovell won the job for $73,300, and construction began in April 1927. 40

It wasn't entirely an imported affair. Brick came from Clayton, Washington, while lumber came straight from Sandpoint's own Humbird Mill. When the doors opened in March 1928, more than 1,000 curious townspeople reportedly poured through in the first hour. This wasn't merely a post office. Upstairs sat the U.S. Forest Service; downstairs were Internal Revenue, civil service, and a military recruiter. For a timber-and-railroad town still remembering its frontier beginnings, that handsome brick building meant something: Sandpoint had become important enough for Washington to plant its flag—although, true to government tradition, it took fifteen years to get around to it.
