IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE

The 10th annual Brew Five Three

by RACHEL KELLY

It’s time to raise a shout for the 10th annual Brew Five Three, the 253’s most anticipated beer and music festival. This year it will be held at the Central Meadow event space at Chambers Bay on Saturday, August 12, from 2 to 8pm.

Thus far, the festival is playing host to more than 30 beer and cider breweries, many local (all your favorites will be there), with a total of 40-plus food trucks and vendors. And more continue to be added as the event approaches. This year’s music will feature two wellknown rock bands: Smash Mouth and Spin Doctors.

Smash Mouth is best known for their two multi-platinum albums and one gold. You might, however, remember them for their hit songs such as “All Star” and “I’m A Believer” (which was featured in Shrek). This band’s over-the-top pop rock has left its mark on our collective consciousness (“I’m in LOVE-oooo!). Their memorable melodies will surely have you citing the lyrics and joining in with the crowd to echo back their catchy tunes.

Spin Doctors made waves in the ‘90s for their funky mega-hits. This Grammy award-nominated band boasts two platinum albums including Pocket Full of Kryptonite, the seventh best-selling album of 1993. But make no doubt, this band still knows how to shake the room. Their party rock atmosphere and bluesy guitars are sure to have you out of your seat to dance to the groove!

For tickets and additional information on all the fun to be had at this year’s event, please visit TacomaArtsLive.org and select Brew Five Three under upcoming events. Advance tickets are $50, with regular tickets priced at $55. Designated driver tickets are only $20. Tickets include six tasting tokens and a tasting glass. Tickets for Smash Mouth and Spin Doctors are a separate purchase, with options for regular and VIP seating and entry. (Please note, this event is for those 21 and older.)

You do not want to miss the drinks, eats, music and shopping at this year’s Brew Five Three!
