RECAP
Light of the Prairies has been serving individuals facing the challenges of intellectual disability for over 30 years. We began with a single home and a day program and gradually expanded both these services, to include 11 homes and serving close to 85 individuals.
As an agency Light of the Prairies is committed to “better the lives of those with intellectual disabilities by raising the standard of support, build healthy relationships and creating opportunities for them to invest in and be valued by society”.
Our Day Programs support adults in various locations around the city. Participants help to develop an individual support plan tailored to their specific needs and preferences. The daily activities and outings are an important part of helping to build community relationships and to become active, healthy members in our society.
OUR DAY PROGRAMS ARE A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE FEELS ACCEPTED AND IS RECOGNIZED FOR THE UNIQUE AND IMPORTANT WAY THEY CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY.
Many of our Day Program participants also live in one of our homes in Saskatoon. Our group homes provide individuals with 24 hour support based on their needs, while the SILP program provides each client with individualized support within their own home. Our support programs are designed to provide more than just a house for our clients, it is their home.
We seek to build strong relationships within each home so that they operate and feel like a family home. Through these relationships we assist individuals to live successfully by maximizing independence and supporting community participation.
ONE
One tree can give life to a forest
One smile can start a friendship
One hand can uplift a soul
One idea can shape the future
One laugh can conquer gloom
One ray of hope can lift your spirits
One touch can show that you care
One life can make a difference
Be the ONE today

Building meaningful and healthy relationships is part of Light of the Prairies mission. This past Christmas we incorporated a Christmas Dinner with our staff, friends, and families as our homes' tradition. Our participants were very excited to host and celebrate this holiday, a season of giving, sharing and loving to each and every one.

Day Program News
In January, we had a group attend Wanuskewin Heritage Park, at which time we watched Lawrence Roy in one of his hoop dancing presentation. This was enjoyed so much that we ended one of weeks in February inviting Lawrence to join us at our Day Program.
It was great to have him come so more participants could enjoy and participate in the experience.
Lawrence provided an amazing performance and provided lessons that were inclusive, interactive; and had many of the staff and participants partake.
We hope that he will join us again soon!
Let us introduce ourselves as “Taste of Love,” we are a group of staff, voluntters and clients that help deliver freshly prepared meals that are made with love by the team at Walter Lane.
Every Friday we cook a meal to serve anywhere between 80-150 people and deliver it to those most in need. We provide a meal as well as a few extras including care items, clothing, and snacks. We have created this program over the past 8 months and have partnered with Prairie Harm Reduction to distribute the meals.
Greaves News
Greaves has a few traditions around Christmas that mean so much to the guys. The annual trip through the Enchanted Forrest is one of those traditions. We love this outing and look forward to it each year. We also enjoy pizza for Christmas Eve dinner, supplied by one of our families, it allows for everyone to relax and enjoy each other’s company for the evening. The guys enjoy opening their gifts on Christmas morning, then helping to make a big Christmas meal We always look forward to the New Year and what is next….
