June 2023

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

• We continue to volunteer for MOW, SPCA, and the Foodbank. This month we'll be sending a crew to help out at Habitat for Humanity.

• We held events such as a Halloween party, Glow Dance, and the first annual service celebration for those who attend the program.

• We welcomed Lawrence for some authentic Hoop Dancing and Wrangler Elise with her reptile friends. We have furry four-legged friends who visit us monthly, animals are the best therapy!

• We work on things like Motor & Life skills, sign language, and relationship building and even started making our own paper which we make cards out of.

• We've tried new crafts like junk Journaling, making wax sachets, and candle painting.

• We spin wheels on our birthdays to win a special birthday surprise.

• We opened a weekly Canteen staffed by our clients.

• Our community outings have consisted of things like bowling, the aviation museum, theatre in the park, swimming, story walks, library, beaver creek, river walks, mall scavenger hunts, and much more! This month we'll be taking a tour of the Canadian Light Source.

• We've seen growth in many of our clients and see them being engaged and trying new things!

We are patiently waiting for a renovation date so we can create more positive change here at the Day Program! We look forward to future changes such as making coffee, having a green room, creating our sensory spaces, and much more.

In March we welcomed the newest addition to the Easthill family, Claire! Claire is a bubbly young woman with some great dance moves and a goofy sense of humor. We’ve enjoyed getting to know her more and watching her develop relationships with the Easthill ladies and staff.

The Easthill ladies have loved being a part of the events hosted by various homes within the agency such as Karaoke at Walter Lane, Gustin’s Summer Party, Edward’s Friendship Club, Gladstone’s Pancake Breakfast, Eastview’s Learn to Make Sushi, and the Day Program’s Glow Dance, just to name a few!

Everyone has been thoroughly enjoying the summer weather. Tressa loves to soak up the sun on the front deck, enjoy the rides at Kinsmen Park, and going for walks by the river in her buggy. In May, Candice got to watch her idol, Shania Twain, perform in concert. She has been enjoying the Forestry Farm, Kinsmen Park and feeding ducks in the park. Kelly attended Camp Thunderbird at Candle Lake in June and is looking forward to attending Redberry Bible Camp in July. She’s been busy with the Day Program cleaning crew, volunteering with Tim Hortons Choose to Include Campaign and Smile Week, and with various Special O activities. Morgan has started a new volunteer position with the Saskatchewan Rattlers. You can look for her on the floor of SaskTel Center showing individuals to their seats. Morgan has also been involved with a variety of events through Saskatchewan Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services. We’ve enjoyed trying new activities with Claire and learning what she’s passionate about. She’s been happy to participate in swimming, Phoenix Dances, distributing posters for Gutsy Walk, attending ball games, and attending Karaoke.
